The current flow of digital art including NFT, is flowing in the direction of disassembling atoms and reconstructing them in the form of electrons.

During Chuseok, I visited parents house and took pictures including Gyeong-ungi (cultivator), trees, and traditional structures.

And I tried to assemble them.

After doing textures and drawings, I tested multiple tools including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Cinema4D. I tried to extract new perspective, shapes, and meshs.

And I was v

I had time to think about death for myself as I watched the news about people who died after experiencing symptoms similar to mine, suffering from poor concentration and chest pain as they suffered from the side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine for several weeks.

To visually represent this process, I extracted splines from biometric data.

I tested 3D rendering with voxels and extrude in Cinema 4D, and decided that Lathe was much more suitable for expressing movement.

I created an animation through angle, movement, and scaling, and since I think of death as a state of nothing, I expressed it to converge to a point.

The direction of death is expressed as the +Y axis.

I thought that death was under the creative act of mankind.

Biological lifespan has a limit, and leaving genes through reproductive activity is not an easy as it require survival and power.

Instead, I think humans have chosen to leave information, such as writing, drawing, sculpting.

With imagination based on the above thought, I think that if there is a world without death, human motivation to leave something will be weakened, which will lead to the collapse of creativity.

So I want to create a monument to the worship of death and creativity.

After suffering from side effects, I got nervous because of the shortened time, so I started looking for a way to work faster.

And I bought i-phone13-PRO-Max and used LIDAR to scan both sides of the mirror.

Still, there are many things that I have to figure out.

What do I should scan?

News? Issue? Culture?

I tried to create an image with paint and water.

Unfortunately, it turns out that LIDAR sensors are not good at capturing fast movements.

Sudden movements were also difficult.

I tried with this by feeding a street cat eating food, and the fast-moving parts lost data, making them look like bizarre, headless animals.

However, when I repeatedly perform the same motion like a turntable, you can notice that the traces of the texture remain.

Through this, it may be possible to express the movement trace through the texture.

Nevertheless, LIDAR is a great way to speed up Photogrammetry. you can capture a wide variety of objects fast, and even lets you instantly capture the subject right away when you are walking or travelling.

I think it has a function that is somewhat similar to traditional photography.

So I created an abstract space by scanning the surrounding objects.

In order not to slow down the speed of work, I tried to avoid other works like texturing, modelling as much as possible, and only transformed rotation, scale, and position.

I have come to realize that 3d compositing with LIDAR can produce results a little faster than photo compositing through objects with high-quality textures.

With LIDAR sensor, fast motion cannot be captured.

So, the paint dropping was unable to record.

Consistant motion is also unable to capture.

The cat was eating food. And the head is evaporated.

But repetitive movements can be recorded.

You can see the label that is merged in the middle of the record.

I tried to capture the motion of vehicles inside of fast moving car.

It was worth to try but I kept trying other ways.

And also I started to make jokes.

I have come to the conclusion that there is a limit to simply trying this and that at random.

So, I decided to scan more than 40 animals, trees, and natural objects, and visited places outside of Seoul for this work.

I thought of compositing in Real-world with 1)doing 3d scanning (photogrammetry) and 2)print outputs that containing offset, or color change, adding objects into T-shirt, then 3)taking a picture in the actual place.

But, it didn’t go well.

Making footage is possible but I needed to find the way to be interactive.

Maybe in Three.JS? But I failed.

I tried to scan places and objects that have a little bit scary feelings.

I wanted to break down the emotion of fear through cute expressions and let people to properly face the meaning of those objects and places that they have not looked into properly before.

(Like the paintings of tigers and kkachi)

In this semester, I felt I need to work quickly because of the side effects of the vaccine, so I did research on it.

Through this, I became more familiar with methodologies such as photogrammetry.

With collage work of 3D objects, I learned that different objects can create new emotions fast when they are combined.

I wanted to make it possible for people to feel unfamiliar emotions and have time to think about the object through not only one-dimensional contrast such as color or scale, but also the hierarchy of meanings that objects symbolize in human society.

I did 3D scans again to find images of pure, authority and weakness, beauty and ugliness.
