Give a copy of this page to each teacher or helper. Use the activities for early arrivers, during transition times, or whenever there is extra time.
“If anyone accepts children like these in my name, then he is also accepting me” (Mark 9:37, ICB). Welcoming new children into your classroom is a God-given privilege. As you begin this new quarter, be prepared to give a cheerful greeting. Let children and parents do as much as possible before entering the room: sign in, receive identification tags, and hang coats. Respect other children by having parents say good-bye at the door.
From the Resources printable files, display the unit 1 Bible Memory poster in several places around the room, making it accessible to all teachers. Make extras for children to color and decorate. Teach the Bible Memory motions also found in the Resources files.
Using the Bible Memory song “In the Beginning,” children can clap to the song, march around the room, or play rhythm instruments.
Send home the Family Letter also found in the Resources files. Ask parents to reinforce the Bible Memory words each day throughout the week.
The Resources audio tracks are reproducible. Provide the files to families so parents can sing the songs with their children all week long!
Unit 1 center is a wonder center. You will need to gather these items: Lesson 1: magnifying glasses, nature items (dirt, sand, rocks, leaves, flowers, fruits, vegetables, bowl of water)
Lesson 2: magnifying glasses, fishbowl with goldfish, books about fish and birds, feathers
Lesson 3: magnifying glasses, animal picture books, pieces of faux fur (long- and short-haired) and fleece, animal crackers, canned cheese spread, vanilla wafers
Lesson 4: magnifying glasses, construction paper, felt, vanilla extract, peppermint flavoring, scented hand lotion, cinnamon, glue, eyedroppers
Children love the changing seasons and holidays. Appropriately decorating the classroom for these special times can help the children understand from a biblical perspective the times and seasons God gave us. Allow children to help decorate a classroom bulletin board for fall. Include the Resources sheet 8 Scamper quarterly poster. Cut out colorful paper leaves for a border. Leaf patterns are included in the Resources files. Let children draw and add pictures of other favorite fall nature items— apples, pumpkins, acorns, and so forth.
Play is the way children learn, build relationships, and communicate with others. During times of guided play, allow children to play with toys of their choice. The teacher can supervise and guide the conversation to correlate with the day’s lesson: “Blake, I like the animals you are playing with. Do you think Noah had some of these animals on his ark-boat?”
Before class, print and fill out the Allergy Notice from the Resources files for each snack that is served. Post it visibly for parents to take note. And always check your own children’s information.
Mark name tags so volunteers can easily identify dietary needs.
The Resources printable files include both the International Children’s Bible and the King James Version for Bible Memory Posters, Bible Memory Motions, and Family Letters.

BIBLE DISCOVERY
Use all these activities to help children tell what God made on Days 1–4.
GROW AND GO
Use one or more of these learning centers to help children thank God for making the sky and the earth.
Today’s lesson is the first in a unit of lessons on God’s creation of the world. As you help children learn that ❤ God made the sky and the earth, guide them to express thanks to Him in prayers and songs. When you see the sun’s light, thank God. As you play in water and sift through sand, thank Him. As you enjoy looking at plants and taste yummy fruit, pause to say thank You. Everything God made is good. Thank You, God.
Bible Background for the Teacher
The Hebrew word for “God” in Genesis 1:1, Elohim, implies God’s power and glory. Verse 2 describes the earth as it first appeared when it was called into existence— formless, empty, dark. Then God spoke! He had a plan and a purpose for everything He was about to make. The Bible says that God’s Word was carried out instantaneously. God himself named the day and night, the sky, the land, and the seas. He is ruler of all.

Show the photo cards one at a time. Guide children to act out what is shown on each card. As each creation is acted out, children can say “Look at us. We’re ____!” and complete the sentence with the name of the thing they are acting out. (Examples: the dark [cover eyes with hands], light [hold hands in circle over head like big, round suns], waves [move arms up and down in waves], trees [stand tall and straight])
ASK: What plants did God make that are tall? What small fruits and vegetables did God make? What did God make that feels rough? Which things feel soft?
SAY: The Bible, God’s special book, tells us that ❤ God made the sky and the earth in six days. Let’s look at some of the things God made on the first four days.
Guide each child to look through a magnifying glass at the created things provided. Encourage children to touch and talk about the items.
ASK: What do you like to do with dirt or sand?
What colors did God give to the vegetables He made? How do you use the water God made?
SAY: When ❤ God made the sky and the earth, He made things in all colors. Let’s look at some of the colors God made for us to enjoy.
Guide the children to fill the jars half full of water. Put a spoonful of red, yellow, and blue paint in three separate jars. Put red and yellow paint in the fourth jar, blue and yellow paint in the fifth jar, and red and blue paint in the sixth jar. Help the children seal and shake the jars. Look at the colors.
ASK: What is your favorite color?
What fruits or vegetables did God make that are red? green? yellow?
What part of the earth did God make brown or black? (dirt, rocks, tree trunks)

Memory Motions printable file
Before class, tape on the back of each card a ruler to use as a handle.
SAY: The Bible tells us in the book of Genesis (show Genesis) that ❤ God made the sky and the earth. God started with nothing. That means it was dark. Would you like it to be dark outside all the time? No! God knew His world needed light, so God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light. Hold up creation card 1a. Turn on the flashlight. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” Let’s clap because the day and night God made on Day 1 were good! Do so.
On Day 2, God made the sky. Show card 1b. He made the sky a pretty blue. Let’s look at the sky. Have children shade their eyes and look up. What can you see in the sky? The sky God made was good. Clap.
On Day 3, God took the waters below the sky and brought them together. God called the dry ground “land” and the big waters were called “seas.” How do the waves in the sea move? Show children how to move their arms up and down as waves. The land and seas God made were good. Clap. But God wasn’t done yet! Show card 1c. God made plants. He made trees, bushes, flowers, fruits, and vegetables—all different colors, shapes, and sizes. Can you pretend to grow like trees? Have children stand slowly and reach high; then sit again. All the plants God made on Day 3 were good. Clap.
On Day 4, God made a big, bright light. Show card 1d. Do you know what God called the light? Yes, the sun. God put the sun in the daytime sky. Then God made the moon and stars for the nighttime sky. Everything God made was good. Clap. ❤ God made the sky and the earth.
SAY: Let’s remember what God made on the first four days. Hold up the cards one at a time. Have the children call out things God made.
ASK: When God made the world, what did God make on Day 1? What did God make on Day 2? Day 3? Day 4?
Before class, highlight Genesis 1:1 in the Bible and print and practice the motions.
SAY: We can read in our Bible about the time when ❤ God made the sky and the earth. Open your Bible to Genesis 1:1 and point to each word as you read the Bible Memory to the children. Ask the children to say the words with you, teaching them the motions.
Use one or more of these learning centers to help children thank God for making the sky and the earth.
Before class, cut out a Lift-a-Flap Picture for each child. Show the children a completed picture. SAY: God made so many wonderful things. Let’s color a special picture that can help us remember ❤ God made the sky and the earth.
Help children as needed to add stickers and fold the flaps. Show children how to lift each flap to tell what was created on Days 1–4.
ASK: What is your favorite part of God’s creation?
Let’s thank God for all the good things He made. Lead children in a simple prayer, naming some of their favorite parts of creation.
Especially for 2s!
Prefold the flaps. Allow 2s to scribble-color the pictures and add stickers. Ask each child to open one flap to show a creation God made. Say a thank-You prayer to God for making that part of our world.
Open your Bible to Genesis 1:1. Point to and read the highlighted Bible Memory. SAY: Let’s learn our Bible Memory as we march to a song. Give each child a plastic flower, vegetable, or other creation item. Play “In the Beginning” as children march around the room or in a circle while holding their creation items. When the song is finished, ask children to sit down. One at a time, have children show the creation items they are holding. As each item is shown, say the Bible Memory together. SAY: We know that ❤ God made the sky and the earth.
ASK: What can you say to thank God for your favorite creation?
SAY: ❤ God made the sky and the earth. Let’s look at some of the things God made. Then we’ll say “Thank You” to God.
Have the children sit in a circle. Pass the teaching picture around the circle as you play “Thank You, God.” Pause the music. When the music is paused, the child holding the picture should point to something God made that is shown on the picture. Together the children can say, “Thank You, God, for making _____ (creation pointed out).” Continue play until each child has pointed to something on the picture.
ASK: What do you see that God made?
When can you thank God for the things He made? (Anytime!)
Say a thank-You prayer to God with the children now.
• Be sure children who are leaving now have their activity projects and a copy of this week’s Heart Tugs. Note: Family Together Time is available to download and send to families. See the unit page for more info.

Teaching Tip
If you have a small class, lay the cards randomly on a tabletop. Have the children rearrange the cards in the order of creation.
Before class, highlight the numbers on the back of the teaching picture to help you remember when to pause for actions. Show the teaching picture. Tell the Bible story printed on the back of the picture. Distribute the creation cards. Tell the Bible story a second time. Ask the children to stand and hold up their cards when they hear you say the numbers on the cards they are holding. Note: If you have a large class, pair the children to hold up the cards. Or repeat the story until each child has had a turn to hold one of the creation cards.
Give the creation cards to four children. Arrange the children so that they are standing with the cards in the order of creation: 1a—night and day; 1b—sky; 1c—land, sea, plants, trees, flowers; 1d—sun, moon, stars. Then ask the children to rearrange themselves so the numbers are out of order. Have the rest of the children help them move back into the creation order.

Bring out Scamper with sunglasses on. SAY: Scamper, where did you get your sunglasses? Scamper whispers to you; respond in surprise. Oh! That must have been fun! I’ve never seen a squirrel in sunglasses. Let’s tell the children how you got your sunglasses.
Take glasses off Scamper. Scamper was sitting on a tree branch when he saw some children playing in a nearby sandbox. Scamper perches on your arm. It was a sunny day, and the children were wearing sunglasses. Scamper looked to the right. Scamper looks right. A little boy was scooping out hills and lakes. Then Scamper looked to the left. Scamper looks left. A little girl was pretending to plant flowers in the sand.
Soon the sun began to go down. The little boy didn’t need his sunglasses anymore, so he took them off and laid them under the tree. Scamper was curious. Down the tree he ran. Scamper runs down your arm to the glasses. Scamper picked up the glasses and tried them on! Put glasses on Scamper.
When the children saw Scamper, they giggled. Scamper ran back up the tree. Scamper runs back up your arm. He will give the glasses back soon, but first Scamper wanted to look through the glasses at God’s great big, wonderful world! Scamper looks all around room.
ASK: What things do you think Scamper saw that God made? (sun, sand, grass, tree)
What can you say to thank God for the good things He made?
Before class, print in the center of each plate: “Thank You, God, for making the sky and the earth.” Print the leaves onto different colors of construction paper, 8–10 for each child; then cut out. Tie raffia into bows.
SAY: Some of the most beautiful things God made are the leaves on trees. Let’s make a wreath to help us remember that ❤ God made the sky and the earth. Guide the children in gluing leaves around the outer edges of their plates, creating wreaths. Add a raffia bow to each.
ASK: What colors are the leaves God made?
Each time you look at your wreath this week, remember to thank God for the beautiful world He made. Lead children in a prayer, thanking God for all the wonderful things He made for our world.
If you have young children who are not interested in making the craft, allow them to toss some leaves into the air and see who can catch them. When a leaf is caught, say, “Thank You, God, for wonderful leaves!”
• Play the “Thank You, God” game from first hour as children wait for parents.
• Be sure children have projects made in class and this week’s Heart Tugs Encourage parents to do the “God Made” song with their children.
Focus
❤ God made the sky and the earth.

The certificates, postcards, and name tags in the Teacher Helps folder are modifiable documents, which means you may open them, add your own information, and then save them onto your computer with new names. The text boxes (“Type here”) allow ministry or individual information to be added. You should tab to advance to the additional boxes.
Name tags are designed to be used with purchased name badge label paper, 10 to a page. When printing name tags, be sure to have the Page Scaling on your Printer Features set on None. Otherwise, the printer will automatically reduce the size of the art and the name tags will not print correctly on the label paper.
Postcards are 2-page projects. Just fill in the text boxes, then print back-to-back onto card stock. They can be prepared and printed for bulk mailings, or they can be used individually. If you prefer to add handwritten notes or personally address cards, simply delete text box instructions and then print. Keep a supply of postcards on hand for birthdays, thank-yous, and other ministry needs.
For clip art, scroll through the list and choose the image you want. Click Copy. Launch your favorite word processing program (i.e., WordPerfect®, Appleworks®, Microsoft® Word). Under the Edit menu, select Paste to paste the art into a document. Position and size the image however you like.

Dear Family,
We’re so glad to have your child in class. We’re also glad to partner with you to help your child learn about God. Our goal is to provide positive, faith-building experiences that will give children opportunities to learn at their level about God, Jesus, the church, and others.
For the next four weeks, here’s what your child will explore and learn:
God Made the World
Week 1 • God Made the Sky and Earth (Genesis 1)
Week 2 • God Made Fish and Birds (Genesis 1)
Week 3 • God Made Animals (Genesis 1)
Week 4 • God Made People (Genesis 1, 2)
It’s so important for children to learn at an early age that only God made the world. Together we will thank God for everything He made in our world.
One way for children to learn about God is by memorizing portions of God’s Word. The following is the Bible Memory for this unit. Encourage your child to learn this Bible verse:
“God created the sky and the earth” (Genesis 1:1, ICB).
Please let us know of any concerns or suggestions you have. We’re here to serve you and your child.
Blessings,

Preschool Make-n-Share contains 13 preschool projects and one learn-ing center activity. Also included are two pages of peel-and-press stickers and two bonus coloring pages.
Suggestions for using each craft activity are included in your Preschool Teacher. Each activity is designed so that the child has something to hold and manipulate while sharing a truth learned in the day’s Bible lesson.
• Separate the craft pages by tearing them apart along the perforation. For most preschoolers, you will need to cut out the activities. Leave some simple cutting for advanced preschoolers to encourage the development of their scissor skills.
• Cut off the portion of the sticker pages needed for each lesson.
• Make a sample of each craft.
• Store the sample and materials for each lesson in a labeled envelope or file folder so nothing is lost.
Remember, you can enlist volunteers to help with this preparation.
In planning ahead for the quarter, you will need to gather both general supplies and some specific supplies needed for completing the projects.
• crayons
• washable markers
• blunt-tip scissors
• resealable plastic bags
• tape
• glue sticks
You will need for each child:
• Lesson 6—straw, 18" length of yarn
• Lesson 8—jumbo craft stick (optional: yarn)
• Bonus activity—poster board and a ruler
Display your sample craft and let the children enjoy fun, involved Bible learning!

u Something More! Following each story is a bonus activity you can use with the children to review and apply the Bible story to their lives. Use these activities whenever you have a few extra moments in class.
u More Fun! Actively involve the children while telling the Bible story, using the suggestions provided.
• In the back of this book are two sets of bonus teaching picture cards. Cut apart both sets and play the games suggested.
• Create a special picture book. Cut two pieces of poster board slightly larger than the teaching pictures to use as covers. Glue the front cover of your teaching pictures to one piece of poster board. Punch holes along the left side of the covers and pictures. Fasten the book together with plastic rings or yarn.
• Display pictures on a classroom bulletin board, wall, or easel.
• Retell a story when a child shows interest in a picture.
• Introduce or follow up a Bible story using the teaching picture.
• Use the teaching pictures in learning centers to help children understand more about each week’s Bible story. Point out the setting, the clothing of Bible-times people, and details that are the same as or different from the child’s world today.
Preschool/Pre-K & K Teaching Pictures offer another way to tell Bible stories to children. A Bible story is printed on the back of each fullcolor picture. See your teacher guide for specific uses of the pictures in weekly sessions. For added durability, you may want to laminate the pictures or cover them with clear adhesive covering. Here are some other suggestions for using the teaching pictures in class:

u Something More! Point to the picture and name things God made. Each time you name a new part of creation, have the children act it out. They can raise arms above heads for the sky, move arms in waves for the seas, crouch down and slowly stand to “grow” like plants, and so on. Ask children to name their favorite creations God made.
The Bible tells us that God made the sky and the earth. God started with nothing. There was only darkness. Then God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light. God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day. He called the darkness night. This was Day 1. On Day 2, God made the sky. He made a beautiful blue sky to hold puffy white clouds. The sky God made was good. On Day 3, God made dry land. God called the dry land earth. God gathered the waters. He called them seas. The land and seas God made were good. Then God made more good things on Day 3. God made plants grow. He made many kinds of trees, plants, bushes, flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Everything God made on Day 3 was good. But God still wasn’t done! On Day 4, God made a big, bright light. God called the light sun, and He put the sun in the daytime sky. God also made a smaller light called the moon. And He made little lights called stars. God put the moon and stars in the nighttime sky. Everything God made on the first four days was good. God made the sky and the earth.
Bible story from Genesis 1:1-19
Historia bíblica tomada de Génesis 1:1-19
Cut apart both sets of cards and use them to help your children learn and review this quarter’s Bible stories.
Matching Game. Mix up the two sets of cards and lay them picture-side down. Children can take turns picking up two cards at a time to find matches. When a match is found, tell something that happened in the pictured Bible story.
Sequencing. Select three or four cards randomly. Let the children place them in sequential order. Ask children to tell what was happening in each picture.
Clues. Mix up one set of cards. Ask a volunteer to pick one card and hand it to you without looking at the picture. Give clues about the picture and let children guess which Bible story is shown on the card.
Loving God. Lay out the cards, picture-side up. Ask children to find specific pictures: “Find a picture that shows someone who obeyed God.” “Point to a person who served God.” “Can you find a person who thanked God?” Children can also tell how they obey God, serve God, and so forth.
Jugar a igualar.
Amar a Dios.
Welcome to Scamper’s Corner. Each week Scamper will have a fun activity for your child to do. Whether a puzzle, a poem, or a song, Scamper will be peeking around the corner with an unstoppable curiosity for discovering God’s love in the world He made.
Fall is a wonderful time to look at the apples God made. Here are some apple ideas your family can do together!
• Visit an apple orchard and pick apples.
• Look at the many varieties of apples at a grocery story and buy some you’ve never tasted before.
• Make caramel apples or apple crisp. Drink some apple cider.
Combine an 8 oz package of softened cream cheese and a cup of brown sugar in a bowl. Cream the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth. Dip apple slices in the dip for a fun fall treat.
Scout is on the prowl! He’s ready to go through mazes, nish dot-to-dot pictures, and play wonderful games. And in everything Scout does, he’ll help your child explore great lessons in the Bible.

Go to the grocery store with your family and buy Thanksgiving dinner ingredients to give to a family who may not be able to celebrate Thanksgiving with a big meal. Buy a turkey, several cans of vegetables, a box of stuf ng, a bag of potatoes or box of instant potatoes, a gravy mix, a loaf of bread, and a pie. Add the ingredients for a food item that may be a Thanksgiving tradition in your area.
Make cards with Thanksgiving greetings and add a Scripture verse to send with the food. Deliver the food a few days before Thanksgiving to a shelter, food center, or family you know.
Gather paper, markers, envelopes, and Thanksgiving stickers. Make cards for individual family members. You can draw things you like about the individuals or draw about favorite times spent together. Place the cards in decorated envelopes on the Thanksgiving dinner plates. Both the adults and children in your family can make these cards so that everyone will receive one!
Being a parent or the primary caregiver for a child is not an easy task. In fact, it is a 24 hours/7 days a week job that requires a love that “patiently accepts all things . . . always trusts, always hopes, and always continues strong” (1 Corinthians 13:7).
In each week’s Family Talk, you will nd words of encouragement for raising your children in the Lord. As you read the Bible stories in Heart Tugs to your children and do the suggested activities with them, you will be ful lling God’s command: “Always remember these commands I give you today. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and walk along the road. Talk about them when you lie down and when you get up” (Deuteronomy 6:6, 7).
Each week a Bible verse reference will be printed here. Your child will be learning these verses (or appropriate parts of the verses) in class. Find the verses in a family Bible. Highlight the verses and say them with your child. In this way, you will be showing your child how important it is to learn God’s Word.
As you love and raise your children in the Lord, God’s blessing will come to you. “God’s grace to all of you who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love that never ends” (Ephesians 6:24).
Each week you will nd prayer thoughts included in Heart Tugs. Use these thoughts at mealtimes, bedtimes, or other times when you pray with your child. These thoughts will help you and your child talk to God about the Bible lessons being learned.
Wise King Solomon said that a happy heart makes even a hard day seem like a continual feast (Proverbs 15:15). Take time to have fun with your child. Laugh and play together. Each week Heart Tugs will include a fun idea you and your child can do together. As you do these activities, you will discover the wisdom of another proverb: “Happiness makes a person smile” (Proverbs 15:13)!
What did God make first?
What is your favorite thing God made on Days 1–4? A Read-to-Me Bible Story from Genesis 1:1-19
The Bible tells us that God made the sky and the earth. On Day 1, God started with nothing. There was only darkness. Then God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light.
On Day 2, God made the sky. The sky God made was good. On Day 3, God made dry land. God gathered the waters and called them seas. God made all kinds of plants to grow on the land.
On Day 4, God made a big, bright light—the sun. Then God made the moon and stars.
Everything God made was good.

Sky and earth, plants and trees, (Point up, then down.)
God made these, and God made me. (Point out, then to self.)
Plants that bloom and fruits to eat, (Pretend to eat something.)
Shells and sand and special treats. (Rub tummy.)
God made all that I can see.
(Point to eyes.)
Thank You, God, for making these! (Put praying hands together.)

It was dark then God made light! (Cover eyes; uncover eyes.)
He called the light day, and the dark was night.
God made space; He called it sky. (Sweep arms overhead.) Then God made ground that was dry. (Spread arms toward ground.)
God told the ground to bring forth trees (Count 1 finger.)
And plants, and fruit, and veggies, and seeds. (Count 2, 3, 4, 5 fingers.)
And each day God said, “It is good!” (Point to smile.)
God made our earth as only He could! (Point toward Heaven.)
Children are like sponges. They absorb every word that we say and then take it to heart. We need to be sources of encouragement and hope for them, or they will nd inappropriate ways to gain attention and approval. When God created the world, He looked at the things He had made. Over and over in Genesis 1, the Bible says, “God saw that it was good.”
Find these verses in a family Bible. Clap a rhythm as you say the verses with your child.
This week, help your child remember: God made the sky and the earth.
Look at the things your child makes this week. Take time to praise your child’s work. Tell her that the work she has done is good, just as God’s work was good. In doing so, you will be motivating your child and sending her a message of love and approval.
Mystery Plants. Children enjoy playing guessing games. Have your child close his eyes and open his mouth. Put a small bite of food (a section of orange or a slice of carrot) in his mouth. Have your child taste the food. Ask, “What plant is this that God made for us?” Provide clues as needed.
Use these thoughts at mealtimes, bedtimes, or other times when you pray with your child this week.
God, You are wonderful. You made our great big world.
Thank You, God, for making plants that give us good food to eat.
God, please keep us safe as we sleep beneath the moon and stars You made.
