“WARTIME WANDERERS”

TV Series - True Story Drama

Adapted from the book: Wartime Wanderers

by Tim Purcell & Mike Gething Synopsis: In April 1939, the Bolton Wanderer's captain, Harry Goslin, gave a rousing speech appealing to the crowd at the match to join-up and, on the following Monday, found that the entire team turned up with him at the local drill hall where they all signed up to the military.

For the next six years, as gunners in the 53rd Field Regiment of the Bolton Artillery, they faced some of the heaviest fighting of the Second World War - in France, where they were part of the rearguard at Dunkirk, throughout North Africa and at battles all the way up Italy. They also established themselves as a formidable regimental football team throughout the theatre of war. Of the full squad only one was killed in action - the remainder returned home to their families and some to their football careers.

In the opening scenes we also see a 15 year-old schoolboy, Nat Lofthouse, who is an ardent fan of the team, and the film follows his parallel story as he's taken on to help re-build the side to the day when he eventually plays with some of his boyhood heroes - scoring the winning goal on the day he gets married to his childhood sweetheart, Alma.

It's an incredible, true, story with a lot of fascinating aspects (such as when they were called off the front line to play against King Farouk's personal football team) and shows the spirit and pride of the Bolton lads as they represent their country and club while also taking part in some of the deadliest battles of World War Two. The Script This original film script is based on interviews by the writers with the original members of the 1939 football team, now all passed away, and their families. The book “Wartime Wanderers” was published in 1996 and Tim Purcell, one of the book's two authors co-wrote the screenplay with Jack Seddon whose credits include several film such as 'The Longest Day' and 'The Blue Max'.

The Book Publishing rights have been returned to the original authors and we are working to complete further chapters - including new material on the original story - and re-publishing the book as part of the marketing exercise for the film with a new epilogue and further pictures.

This is much more than a war story.

It is much, much more than a football story.

Progress to date includes:

➢ We plan to base the production in Bolton and have been offered production offices at a wellknown football stadium

➢ The production company will aim to hire local skills and give a number of young people the opportunity to start in the film industry

➢ A worldwide sales and distribution agreement is in place with a significant Los Angeles film distribution company ➢ A team of more than 40 people is ready to start production including well qualified financial management and crew that have worked multiple TV series and film productions ➢ A full budget and cash flow forecast is in place as is most of the necessary paperwork ➢ We have an experienced production crew keen to start ➢ Investment has been offered by Bolton businesses

1. The full budget for the series is defined and we have a percentage of this already covered.

2. The production company, Wartime Wanderers Limited is approved under the UK Government's Enterprise Investment Scheme and so an investor would be entitled to a 30% tax rebate on invested funds as well as the other benefits we are offering to investors.

3. We have significant funding offers.

4. The producers will repay investors' capital before any profits distribution.

WARTIME WANDERERS EPISODES: 1 'HOMEFRONT' -England 1939, witnessing Germany's territorial claims, begins preparing for war.

Life in crisis. Betty, wife of defender Jack Hurst, gives birth to an ailing infant.Government requests a recruitment drive through the FA. Bolton Wanderers' Captain, Harry Goslin, gives a rousing speech before a match against Sunderland on Easter Saturday.

2 'TIME TO ENLIST' – The entire 1st team of BWFC enlist in the TA. Military training begins. A disaster in Wales sees a number of soldiers killed, the Government enforces censorship. Fourteen year old Nat Lofthouse is talent spotted as a potential football star – whilst he also has his eyes set on Alma Foster.

3 'THE PHONEY WAR' - Nat Lofthouse signs with BWFC the day war is declared. Goalkeeper Stan Hanson marries May. Live munitions training. Brylcreem poster boy, and star player, Ray Westwood, marries long suffering girlfriend, Fanny, a week before being posted to France.

4 'DUNKIRK' in France, main players in Action. Ray is commandeered to be the CO's driver. Jack Hurst gets news of his baby sons death. The team are split up. Harry Goslin's battery are the last guns out. On the last day he knocks out 4 enemy tanks and gains a battlefield Commission.

5 'BACK HOME' - Time with their families, postings across the UK and guesting with different football clubs. Even though he is now a commissioned officer Harry is allowed to remain with his team who all reunited after Dunkirk. The youngest player, Ernie Forrest, learns that his brother was killed when the ship he served in was torpedoed. Fanny visits Ray in many locations. Before their first child is born the entire team are posted to Africa.

6 'NORTH AFRICA' - King Farouk is waivering, so the British Army challenges him to a football match, fielding the entire Bolton team, bringing them back from the Front Line. On their way to Cairo for the match some Italian soldiers surrender to Ernie in the middle of a mine field. King Farouk awards the winning Bolton team with a pair of camels. Ernie and Ray run book on a series of camel races.

7 'EL ALAMEIN' - the real battle commences. As Churchill was to say, “We never won a battle before El Alamein, never lost one after it.” Back home Nat Lofthouse is now playing with the men's team.

The Wanderers excel themselves on the frontline.

8 'IRAQ' - Posted to the desolate desert outpost of Kifri, playing 'international' football matches. Nat's romance with Alma is blooming, as he is becoming a key player in the home team – but counting the days to when he's old enough to enlist and join the 'Real' team in action.

9 'A CAPTAIN'S DEATH' – Arriving in a defeated Italy, a football match is arranged with a local team – Ray & Ernie secure the beer concession having acquired stock from the Indian soldiers now attached to their unit. Happy times soon shattered as Goslin becomes the 1st and only fatality.

The team go on to fight at Monte Cassino. Nat goes down the mines as a Bevan Boy. Alma becomes an air-raid warden.

10 'VICTORY' - Instructed to dispose of all surplus equipment, Ray and Ernie set up shop selling tents, kitchen utensils, bedding, jerry cans, tools and other not military hardware to the locals. The journey home, post war England, Home and families. Ray meets his son for the first time. Playing again.

11 'THE BURNDEN DISASTER' - Nat is in his element, playing alongside his heroes – but disaster strikes - many are killed. Nat sees death and realises what the team went through during the war.

A poignant message for him. Nat & Alma marry, the whole team as guests.

12 'EPILOGUE & THE GREATEST VICTORY' - following their careers in the aftermath of war, Stan becomes a post master opposite Burden Park, Jack Hurst a publican in Bolton, Ray owns a fish and chip shop in Brierly Hill whilst Ernie returns to his trade as a cabinet maker. Culminating with Nat raising the FA Cup in 1958, watched by all the surviving Wartime Wanderers. (Could be as a docu/drama to explain what happened to them after the war).

TIM PURCELL: WRITER

Born and educated in the UK, emigrated to Australia in 1969, where his career commenced as an Advertising Copy Writer with National Advertising Services in Melbourne, head hunted to be Copy Chief at the Galmor O'Keefe agency whilst still only 20. Moving to Sydney the following year he was to join the original script writing team of Australia's first commercial TV soap opera 'Number 96'.

Went on to write for many Australian TV dramas and comedy series for UK TV & Radio including Dave Allen at Large, Weekending and News Huddlines.

In a media career spanning five decades Tim has been a screenwriter, investigative journalist for the UK national press, published author, publisher, director and producer of corporate and music videos, documentaries, TV series and feature films in the UK and Mauritius.

Whilst producing two documentaries in Mauritius in 2003 he was appointed as the Mauritius Consultant to the World Bank.

Tim co-founded, Tropikana Studios Limited with Marcel Lindsay Noe, in 2009, with the objective of creating international standard film studios and to develop the Mauritius film industry. At that time the partners of Tropikana began lobbying and advising the Government to bring in an incentive scheme to attract foreign producers to shoot on the island. This lead to the creation of the Mauritius Film Rebate scheme that was fully implement in 2013. Since that time Tropikana have successfully concluded 9 international co-productions under the scheme from South Africa, the UK, Japan, Israel, Hong Kong and China, including the Chinese box office hit, 'Break Up Guru'.

PRODUCTION COMPANY - SOLA MARK J. CORNWELL Mark J. Cornwell (MJ) is an award winning designer and film producer. He studied film & design & graduated with a BA(Hons) degree before working for PCI (London) in charge of publicity, film, exhibitions and design. He joined the BBC two years later working with some of the most cutting edge technology available at the time.

He left to work on CGI at TCS before co founding the Pixsel company which produced CGI, advertising and award winning design, TV production and branding for: THE BBC, Channel 4, Yorkshire Television, British Airways, M&S, Northern Telecom, Tesco and Shell Oil.In 2005 Pixsel became part of Sola Productions and with fellow partners Paul Turner, Deborah Parfitt and Tony Campbell the company has produced many successful TV broadcast, multi media, corporate and film projects.

As well as producing and directing Mark can also be heard on a number of voice overs and very occasionally be seen acting and presenting which he claims gives him a little more insight into life on the other side of the camera.

THE TARGET AUDIENCE The second world war may have ceased hostilities in Europe on the 8th of May and the 2nd September 1945, with the formal surrender of Japan in a ceremony on the USS Missouri, but the film world has never stopped fighting. Nearly 80 years on, the demand for second world war movies and TV series appears unstoppable, and the relationship between football and war is actually closer than the most beloved and ridiculed of all football films, John Huston’s Escape to Victory depicts.

Many are fictional stories that take place in the World War Two but those that are directly based on or take heavy inspiration from real-life events such as the D-Day landings, the Battle of Stalingrad and the cracking of the Enigma code attract the greatest audience and are the most commercially successful.

Wartime Wanderers was written from first hand accounts recounted to the authors by the players, their wifes and families and comrades who fought alongside them in the bloodiest theatres of war.

Alongside this is the inspirational story of Nat Lofthouse, whose entire career was spent with the Bolton Wanderers lifting the FA Cup as their Captain in 1958 and becoming Honorary Life President until his death in 2011, having outlived his wife Alma, whom he had met whilst a young teenager at Castle Hill School. He remains one of England's Top Ten goal scorers.

Synopsis: A fact-based Drama Series based on three volumes of memoirs of the Kenya Police from 1951 through independence in 1963 to the early 70s. It tells the story of the violent birth of a nation, Kenya, through the eyes of the protagonists - an English Inspector and a Kikuyu Constable who serve together in the Kenya Police during the last years of Colonial rule.

A strong relationship develops between the two lead characters, an English Inspector, Mike Coleman and Njeroge, a Kenyan constable of the Kikuyu Tribe, who eventually rises through the ranks to become the first African Police Commissioner. It is this bond between the white and black officers that is central to the success of the Kenya Police Force in managing a smooth transition to Kenyan independence.

As with the TV Series “Rome” our Protagonists are involved in Historic Events with insight, some hilarious, some tragic, that could only be envisaged by the people who actually served there – a generation in the twilight of their years. It is still in essence a Detective series with murders, thefts, cults, encounters with witchcraft and wild animals – unique to Africa.

The second season sees the first African women joining the force, including two of Njeroge's wives.

In the times of “black lives matter” this series will have a profound impact on an international audience.

True History Drama

An historical drama based on real events about the 18 th Century adventurer that named Australia Synopsis: Tells the true story of British Naval Captain and explorer, Matthew Flinders, seven year imprisonment on the paradise island of Mauritius during the Napoleonic Wars, and his love affair with the daughter of a French plantation owner.

Matthew Flinders was just 26 when he was given command of the Investigator in 1801, and a commission to chart the new territories of the South Pacific that had been discovered 30 years before by Captain James Cook. Two years later, in 1803, having successfully beaten the French in circumnavigating Australia, proving it to be an island continent, Flinders, now anxious to get his priceless charts back to the Admiralty in London, sets sail for England as a passenger aboard the Porpoise. Tragedy strikes on the Great Barrier Reef. Taking command of the survivors of this and her sister ship, the Cato, that also crashed upon the reef, Flinders establishes a camp on a remote sandbank deep in the Pacific Ocean. Taking the only lifeboat and a small crew, Flinders rows the 720 miles to Sydney, from where he is to mount a rescue to ’Wreck Reef’ with three ships.

Flinders, now ever more desperate to get home with those precious charts embarks for England aboard the smallest, and most unseaworthy vessel of them all, a former spy ship, the Cumberland.

In danger of sinking in the middle of the Indian Ocean Flinders seeks refuge in the French colony of Mauritius, unaware that war has once more broken out between their two nations.

Unable to provide the correct papers he is arrested as a spy and removed to the centre of the island.

N parole, Flinders becomes embroiled in the local politics, where the monarchists, who had fled the French revolution, are in almost constant dispute with the despotic rule of Napoleon’s henchman, Captain-General Decaen, the tyrannical Governor of Mauritius.

As the years wear on Flinders is lured into an affair with the beautiful Delphine d’Arifat, the daughter of the plantation owner where he resides. He is torn between her and the love of his wife, Ann, whom Flinders had been forced to abandon in England. He then receives orders from the British Navy, who are now blockading the island, that Flinders engage in real acts of espionage.

With the British determined to take the island and Flinders torn between loyalties to his country, his French friends and his love for two women, as well as his overwhelming desire to be acknowledged as a great explorer, he is in a quandary about what to do; his fate is the balance...

On the eve of the Battle of Grand Port, the only French naval victory over the British, Decaen has Flinders despatched to Cape Town, forcing an emotional separation from Delphine, but an eventual reunion with his wife from whom he had been separated for over nine years. And, it was in Cape Town, during his debriefing, that Flinders set down the basis of the treaty that was to see Mauritius capitulate to Britain upon terms that not only survive to this day, but were also applauded by Napoleon himself, as the best treaty he had seen.

This is a story of forgotten values, honour and chivalry, war and love set against a steamy tropical backdrop, and the epic events that created a new nation.

FLINDERS - THE DOCUMENTARY The true story of the life of Captain Matthew Flinders Matthew Flinders (1774 – 1814) was a British navigator and cartographer who led the first inshore circumnavigation of mainland Australia, then called New Holland. He is also credited as being the first person to utilise the name Australia to describe the entirety of that continent While returning to Britain in 1803, Flinders was arrested by the French governor at Isle de France (Mauritius). Although Britain and France were at war, Flinders thought the scientific nature of his work would ensure safe passage, but he remained under arrest for more than six years. In captivity, he recorded details of his voyages for future publication,.

Jessie is a barrister, a Ghanaian, an Ashanti Chief, whose father was killed during the coup of June 4th 1979. His desire for revenge sets him on a course that sees him becoming embroiled in fraudulent global business, political intrigue, coups and counter-coups, as he travels throughout the USA, Europe and the West Coast of Africa. accumulating a fighting fund and international allies.

His marriage to Fleur, a distant cousin, who he had claimed as a teen, causes dissent in the family, who find themselves becoming engaged in a bitter courtroom battle over his late father's will and misappropriated business assets.

For their first Christmas as a married couple they make plans to spend it at home in Kumasi, the Ashanti heartland. Even as they are preparing to leave for Heathrow a telex offering a potential sanction-busting multi-million dollar oil deal with Iran forces Jessie to remain in the UK with a promise to join her by the New Year.

On December 31st 1981 Fleur's impassioned telephone call to Jessie with news of her pregancy was abruptly cut off, as Flight Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings took back control of Ghana, as the Chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council. Jessie's business dealings are now overshadowed by his political ambitions.

In the ensuing months of separation Fleur, a victim of the deprivations, food shortages, daily news of enemies of the revolution being murdered or disappearing, curtailed by a harsh curfew, Jessie's activities makes her a focus of the ruling junta.

Escaping capture by minutes, the heavily pregnant Fleur, is rescued by one of Jessie's more dubious business associates, who is also a wanted man. Together they flee by road to the Ivory Coast, with the military in hot pursuit.

Jessie's business world starts to collapse as he fights to hold his marriage together and protect their son, Oscar, in the wake of threatened retribution.

Jessie's plans for a political coup simmering, for the present, are silenced .

Following a high speed police chase that culminates in a pile-up blocking the entrance and exit, Rod finds himself trapped in a Multi-Storey car-park, along with an eclectic mix of characters. A hooker, a Crooked Politician, a Construction Surveyor with a damning report of the premises they're in, a wheelchair bound Action Campaigner for Age Concern, a spoilt Executive Wife, and her equally spoilt Daughter and a habitual Car Thief.

As the emergency services race to the scene, along with the media, Rod decides to take on the might of the Underwriters. With millions of pounds worth of vehicles to ransom, he demands they issue him a Fully Comprehensive Insurance Policy and reinstatement of his Maximum No-Claims Discount.

The battle lines drawn, the public, goaded by high profile News Anchors, champion Rod's cause.

The CEO of the Insurance Company, aware that his wife and daughter are trapped with Rod, faces a dilemma. Take the car-park by military force or reword policies to 'genuinely' protect the insured rather than fill the coffers of the underwriters with unjustified annual Premium hikes.

Synopsis: Eight years in a care home makes Billy Finn a professional lifer. And Billy’s angry – with the system, the social workers, and the mother that gave him away. As far as Billy’s concerned, he’s on his own.

His little brother and sister keep him going, though they can’t keep him out of trouble.

But he isn’t being difficult on purpose. Billy’s just being Billy.

As protagonists go, Billy is not immediately likeable, and yet there's something about him that grabs you.

For Billy is full of anger, directed at almost everyone around him. He fights and spits his way through many encounters with the other children in the home, with carers and especially with Ronnie, "The Colonel", an ex-army man who seems determined to solve the problem of this unwanted boy. The Colonel isn't the only target for Billy's anger. He's also angry with the couple who tried to adopt him, and with whom he briefly lived, till he made their lives such a misery he was sent back to the home.

In the opening we get a powerful introduction to Billy and his relationship with Jan and Grant, as he breaks back into their house to lie in the bed that was briefly his. This is a subtle suggestion that not only is Billy not all that he seems, some redemption may lie ahead for him.

For redemption is what this story is about. Not just for Billy, but for many of its characters. For Ronnie, for Billy's wayward mother, for Daisy, the pugnacious yet cool girl Billy meets on the street one day, who he soon learns is also from a broken background. It's their friendship that provides some key lessons for Billy, helping him to reflect on what he really needs to do. And Billy has a very good reason to sort himself out: Louie and Lizzie, the twins, his little brother and sister, who live with him at the care home. And are about to be re-united with their mother while Billy stays in the home.

It's in the scenes with the twins that deliver the most emotional punches, as we see that Billy does have wisdom and sense and love; as he reads to them at bedtime, as he waits for them to fall asleep, as he forges their mother's signature on their birthday cards, and, above all, as he realises that it is his own behaviour that is potentially damaging them the most.

Based on the book “Being Billy” by Phil Earle the film follows Billy as an unreliable narrator through whom we can nevertheless honestly see both the good and bad intentions of those around him, despite the fact the Billy himself frequently does not. This is an angry, unflinching and sometimes bleak look at the life of children in care, but it is also life-affirming, redemptive and, ultimately, really just a rather good a story.

“THREE KISSES” Feature Drama 90 minutes The 80’s saw the fall of the Berlin wall, the emergence of the personal computer and the rise of the Internet. The long-standing battle between VHS’s and Betamax finally came to end in favor of VHS. Pac-Man invaded homes and bars across the world, resulting the gaming community to what we know it to be today. MTV was launched and allowed Madonna to grow.

The 80’s were difficult times, and adjusting as non- Brits didn’t make it easy. Racism wasn’t as prominent as it was three decades earlier; it was still in the air. ‘Three Kisses’ explores how two different cultures tackle life in Britain, and everything they endure whilst trying to raise young children.

The concept arose as a result of the writers identifying a hole in the British film industry. Although non-white Brits have been depicted in prior films made in Britain Three Kisses highlights three cultures as well as three religions. The writers are Tahir Gulkaya, who although of Turkish-Cypriot decent was born and raised in London, and Eduardo, a Portuguese writer who has lived in London for more than two decades. Their in-depth understanding of their respective cultures has allowed them to create two very prominent personalities in Ayse and Fatima.

Logline Three Kisses is a friendship driven adventure for two young girls growing up in London during the 80’s through to the 00’s. Their prominent Turkish & Portuguese cultures steer them forward during social and family difficulties. The two girls must stick together for the journey if they are to flourish.
