DA: You auditioned for RuPaul for previous seasons. What was different about this year? Why did you get cast? JM: My personality. I had no personality at all in my previous videos. I was going through my computer looking at previous videos and my boyfriend was like, ‘I know why you didn’t get picked…none of these videos show who you are. I don’t see none of this in your videos. If I gave you a cup of coffee, you’d be bouncing off the walls being crazy. That’s what you need to be in your videos.’ So that night I made a video just being me, and they said, ‘come on!’ So that’s great. I finally got on the show for being who I am. DA: In the rehearsals for the ShakesQueer challenge you were originally cast as Mac Bitch. Then you and Violet were switched. Now you were the ‘Ghetto Bitch’. Was the lack of rehearsal a problem? JM: Yes, that was a big part of the group’s problems. We just didn’t have enough time to learn our parts, and to know the line in front of us. Everything just fell apart.

Jasmine Masters

DA: Do you wish you’d done another dry run before going onstage?

JM: As far as myself, my mind was so gone. The night before is when I was watching that thing on E! about Ariana and Frankie. So I stayed up all night…worrying about that. So my mind wasn’t there. I couldn’t focus on anything else because As the third member of season 7 RPDR sashays away, we caught I was so worried about my family. up with Miss Jasmine Masters to learn what happened to make her lose her edge in episode 3, and how it all was sparked by Aria I never told anybody this in an interview, but I even offered one of the [assistant/PA] girls there money to just call my Grande and her brother Frankie. family and make sure everybody was okay. And that girl would not! I gave her the cash money on me, and the pin David Atlanta: How are you feeling today? to my credit card, I tried everyJasmine Masters: I’m feeling good actually. I mean I’m still thing just to make that little alive, got some money in the bank. I’m just excited. I’ve wanted to call. She wanted to, but she be on the show for so long. I got to live my dream and participate could not do it. I won’t say her name though. So after that I in the show. just kind of knew I was going DA: What didn’t you like about being on the show? home.

No T, No Shade, No Pink Lemonade

JM: The only thing that I didn’t like was the part when it really hit me that I could not call my family, or they couldn’t call me if something bad happened. I was watching this thing on E! Entertainment where Ariana Grande’s brother Frankie who was on Big Brother. She couldn’t tell him that their grandfather had passed away. So I couldn’t stop thinking about my family, and what if something like that was going on right then. So after I had seen that I didn’t have no sleep at all. I also don’t think the editing was right. DA: You don’t think the editing was fair? JM: Hell no! They show me saying things, but they didn’t show why I said them things. I understand it’s TV, but it’s like for (for my fans) to know who I am through my videos, and then to see me like that on the show. They should have made me out like on my videos, instead of taking my going off-the-bat, and not knowing why I’m going off-the-bat. 24 | 3.25.15

DA: Who are your favorite girls to win this season? JM: Kennedy [Davenport], Ginger [Minj], and one more, I would have to go with Trixie [Mattel]. Watch every week as David Atlanta interviews each queen hours after the sashay away. We’ll release it online and then in print the following issue. It’s the best way to know your queens this season. Are You Man Enough? Final Days of Men of David Nominations

T

hey can raise a voice towards togetherness, towards common-grounds, and even towards their own agenda (if they choose). The point is that being a Man of David allows contestants to be a beacon in their immediate community and beyond.

RICK TWOMBLEY - 2014 MAN OF DAVID

Last year Men of David raised a collective $20,000 for AID Atlanta. Our goal for this year is to beat that outstanding first attempt, and to raise $25,000. You can help us to get there, and have a lot of fun along the way. Here’s what being a Man of David has meant to some of last year’s contenders.

BRU KREBS

For me, Men of David gives the opportunity Men of David is such a positive experifor men from different facets of Atlanta’s gay ence. We enjoyed numerous fundraisers community to get together and pool their reand events that were of such great bensources and funnel it into a very important efit to AID Atlanta. There were so many charity. When that happens, everyone is a amazing people to meet throughout the winner. It’s been great to be the Man of David campaign that you cannot pin point just this past year because I got to be the symbol one great thing. TONY GOWELL I’m tired of my Gay community feeling segregated, and tired of Gay people not taking responsibility for their own choices in life. You want David magazine to be “all-inclusive” of the community? Then be a fucking man, and do something about it. I did, and you should too.

JEREMY RYAN ALLEN

As gay males, I feel we have a social responsibility to care for what happens in our community and to raise awareness for the issues we deal with on a daily basis. I feel honored to be apart of Men of David because I try in my career and lifestyle to be the type of positive role model Men of David is looking for. Community Smith Redefining Succulence by Jason Mietelskion

F

rom the moment I walked into the Community Smith, a neo-modern a-la-carte restaurant specializing in seasonal American fare with an evolving menu carefully crafted by executive chef Micah Willix, I knew I’d found a charming niche in Midtown where I could take a date, a group of friends, or even my mother—and enjoy every facet of the experience. I was greeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff, and the restaurant’s sleek architectural lines, soft lighting, and intimate seating created an ambiance which helped me enjoy a meal that I can only describe as orgasmic. After scouring the menu filled with mouthwatering options ranging from simple yeast rolls and cultured butter, to crispy squid with smoked paprika, tahini and green olives, I went with the management’s recommendation’s—and was nothing short of impressed. Dinner was preceded by Community Smith’s specialty drinks, crafted as they were in the pre-prohibition era, with house made bitters to boot. There was the Mezarita, a lovely take on the margarita, with mezcal, Blanco tequila, Grand Marnier, and agave. Then The Last Word—a delightful drink for lovers of gin, made with Hendricks, Green Chartreuse, Luxardo and lime—pleased my palate with piney juniper berries and sweet candied black licorice undertones. This was followed by the creamiest whiskey sour that’s ever passed through my lips.

34 | 3.25.15

Then the food arrived…remember now, ORGASMIC food. Beyond delicious. First came the rendered oxtail on piri toast covered in shaved g o u d a — t e n d e rness similar to prime rib, delectable beef on crisped bread with an ample amount of tangy cheese! Next was the piquant and tender smoked short rib that was perfectly complimented by sweet mashed parsnips and shallots. After that, my taste buds ignited in summery passion with the delicate cut of beef bavette topped with locally sourced herb cilantro salsa and creamy house made queso. Of course there were the veggies: Rosemary Elote, Community Smith’s sweet and crisp charred corn shaved from the cob and smothered in creamy parmesan elote sauce; and braised carrots, crisp on the outside and tender in the center, topped with sinfully sweet brown butter streusel. And lastly, my absolute favorite of the evening, the to-die-for Porchetta: slow cooked pork belly topped with sweet pepper relish! Thick, delicate, and mouthwatering like a fillet mignon, each bite tasted like expertly seasoned bacon that melted on my tongue and left my mouth salivating for more.

Just when I thought it was all over, jacket in hand and thoroughly satisfied, dessert that can only be described as devilishly delightful arrived at the table! Gluten free bourbon chocolate torté—decadent yet light and fluffy; and the house specialty, popcorn ice cream (yes, you read that correctly: it’s handmade from popcorn and sweet cream), served atop gooey caramel confection and coated with a fine layer of sea salt—it was like I’d died and arrived in culinary paradise. Bottom line: the dining experience at Community Smith, a restaurant named for someone who’s mastered their craft and actively gives back to the community, left me pleasantly satiated and feeling better than when I’d arrived. The staff, each dressed in their own style, explained that they’re planning to open a terrace on March 20th, called the Community Garden, where they’ll be serving menu fare along with locally brewed beers on tap, and I can’t wait to come back and check it out.

A study conducted by Dr. Maressa Orzack of the Computer Addiction Study Center at Harvard University found that 5-10% of the U.S. population has an internet dependency. This kind of reliance on artificial stimuli can lead to real life problems; including detachment, guilt, and even eating problems. Here are some hallmarks of a behavioral addiction. 1. Negative life effects. 2. Isolation from enjoyable activities. 3. Compulsion to repeat the behavior.

Dear Dom,

Every Single Question... Every Single Answer Dear Dom,

Proving there is a 12-step group for every addiction, you ought to attend a meeting of Sexual Compulsives Anonymous. They gather every Tuesday at 7: 30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 353 Peachtree St. SE., Atlanta, GA, 404-822-9321, www.sca-recovery.org. Dear Dom, I’ve always wanted to get my cock pierced. The thought of having a Prince Albert really gets my jets going. But, I fly a lot for work and am afraid of setting off the metal detectors. Airports Looking At Ringed Men? Last week, my boss caught me looking at hardcore gay websites in the office and I got fired. Every time I login to my computer I wind up at sex sites. I’d rather look at porn than go on a date with a real person these days. I can’t stop. This is ruining my life. What can I do?

ARIES (Mar. 20 – Apr. 19): Organized parties, impromptu get-togethers, or other social events should be enjoyable this week. You will feel a strong sense of belonging to a community and a rush of affection for everyone involved. No matter what you think you have to do, don’t turn down an invitation.

LIBRA (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): The visual arts should be of special interest to you this week. Perhaps an exhibition by a favorite artist is opening, or maybe you’ve decided to try painting. A friend or lover could join you in such activities. Books of great art should also prove tempting, so stay out of bookstores!

TAURUS (Apr. 20 – May 20): The aura is calm and peaceful, stress is at a minimum. You’re likely to be getting along very well with your group, even the more difficult among them. As a result, you will probably accomplish a lot more together than usual. Go to it!

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): Your imagination is flying high. Whatever challenges come up, you will find ingenious solutions to them. Love matters and the creative arts could come to the forefront. This is definitely a good day to indulge your interests, whatever they are.

GEMINI (May 21- Jun. 20): Love and romance are apt to be among your top priorities this week. Someone from far away might have captured your heart. You could be looking forward to getting together, perhaps to attend a concert or sporting event. Have fun!

CANCER (Jun. 21- Jul. 22): A member of your household who’s recovering from an illness could express appreciation for all your help. This might come as a surprise because serving your friends is second nature to you. Rest assured that whatever you’ve been doing has made a big difference to this person.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 19): This week you could surprise a close friend or lover with a gift. There may be no special occasion. You may have seen something in the store that you knew he or she would like or mentioned wanting. Don’t play down your own kindness.

LEO (Jul. 23 – Aug. 22): The desire to write your thoughts on a subject you’ve been either thinking about or possibly even researching could arise. If you’ve been thinking about trying your hand at a magazine article on this or any subject, this is the time to get started.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): A place far away that you haven’t visited for a while yet long to see again could be on your mind. You might toy with the idea of going there, but you aren’t really sure if you can. Nonetheless, it certainly won’t hurt to look into it. What’s the plane fare? Where can you stay?

VIRGO (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): Your artistic talents could be put to good use today fixing up wherever it is that you work on. You might want to repaint, put up new plants or pictures, or do anything else that makes the place seem a little more dressed up. Have fun!

You can’t throw shade and then expect people to think you’re sunshine.

You continue to treat him horribly. If there is such a thing as karma, you got a whole heap of bad coming to you. You small-dicked, on-line hook up app whore.

Keep rolling your eyes and maybe, one day, you’ll find a brain back there.

I’m the kind of friend who will help you hide a dead body. But if you betray me, just remember: I know how to hide a dead body.

Sorry I didn’t show up for our date but I wanted to have a good time.

People who say, “I’ve got your back” are usually looking for the best place to stick the knife.

Thank God this is the last season of GLEE! It is the worst show ever!

How dare Dolche & Gabbana say things like that about gay marriage, Elton John, and same-sex families? What a couple of assholes!

You’re dry humping my last nerve. My marriage rights aren’t up for debate. Go fuck yourself.
