ABOUT DAVIDA HOGAN is an interior designer and home design expert with an eye for identifying design trends and translating them into chic, comfortable, and familyfriendly interiors.

After a stint at Sotheby’s, Davida took her Art History degree from Vassar College in a different direction and began working as a magazine decorating editor and stylist. Most recently she was a Senior Editor at Martha Stewart Living and her work has been published in magazines such as InStyle, ShopSmart, Garden Design, and Woman’s Day. Davida has appeared as an expert on Good Morning America, Good Day NY, NBC News and other national and local television shows.

Davida grew up in New York City and she now brings her unique eye for design and decorating to interiors in and around the Summit, NJ area, as well as Brooklyn and Long Island, NY. Every space she designs is a curated mix of new and old pieces that together create a casual and stylish living environment.

CLEAN SLATE CONDO DESIGN CHALLENGE:

Create a stylish home from a cookie-cutter condo.

SOLUTION:

Add architectural detail and create a focal point for the living room by designing a built-in shelving unit to house a ventless fireplace and Frame TV. The far right cabinet disguises an air conditioner unit. The cabinet doors recess when the unit is in operation. Classic pieces with a contemporary leaning furnish the space.

Client was presented two options for the built-in unit. One design was rendered using Adobe PhotoShop.

ELEGANT SUNROOM DESIGN CHALLENGE:

Divide a large sunroom into a space for entertaining and music playing.

SOLUTION:

Use a furniture plan to create two zones and to direct circulation throughout the space. A back-to-back sofa plan allows for separate seating areas. A mix of new and vintage pieces were selected to give a somewhat formal space a chic, relaxed vibe perfect for entertaining.

MODERN MIX LIVING ROOM DESIGN CHALLENGE:

Create a family-friendly living room in an open plan space.

SOLUTION:

Restrict furniture to the window side of the room and utilize awkard stair side corner of room to house swivel stools for extra seating; swivel chairs across from sofa allow for multiple focal points. Replace builder grade fireplace with marble for a contemporary look.

Furnish primary bedrom and design storage for attached small sitting room.

SOLUTION:

Infuse space with calm color palette and streamlined furniture. Design builtin cabinetry that houses lighting and surrounds armchairs.

UPDATED SHAKER KITCHEN DESIGN CHALLENGE:

Redesign kitchen to include triangular workspace and dining nook.

SOLUTION:

Incorporate hall closet into kitchen to square off room. Relocate entrance to backyard to create room for banquette, table, and chairs. Slide window down for a longer run of cabinetry. Move location of range to create triangular workspace.
