l mito di Orfeo ed Euridice, noto nella letteratura e nell’arte, è qui interpretato in maniera metafisica. Le immagini vengono private degli elementi caratterizzanti e rese essenziali: i corpi sono rappresentati come sculture classiche, mentre il fiume Stige si trasforma da sinuosa onda di colore a flessuosa scultura in marmo Statuario.

he myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, well-known in literature and art, is here interpreted in a metaphysical way. The images are deprived of their particular features and made essential: the bodies are represented as classical sculptures, while the river Styx is transformed from a sinuous wave of color in a willowy Statuary marble sculpture.
Il tema dell’opera è la discesa di Orfeo nell’Ade, attraverso l’infernale Stige, alla ricerca della sposa Euridice. L’eroe ottiene dalla regina Persefone di ricondurre la donna alla vita, purchè egli non la guardi fino all’uscita dagli Inferi. Tuttavia, sulla soglia Orfeo cede alla tentazione e si volta verso l’amata. In un istante Euridice svanisce e scompare nelle tenebre per l’eternità.
The theme of the work is the descent of Orpheus into Hades, through the infernal Styx, in search of his bride Eurydice. The hero obtains from queen Persephone to bring the woman back to life, provided he did not look at her up to the exit from the Underworld. However, on the doorstep Orpheus gives in to temptation and turns to his beloved. In a moment Eurydice vanishes and disappears in the darkness for eternity.
Il contrasto fra l’ombra dello sfondo e la luce sul corpo femminile, fissa sulla tela il momento in cui Euridice appare accanto ad Orfeo, prima di essere inghiottita dal buio.
The contrast between the shadow on the background and the light on the female body, fixes on the canvas the moment when Eurydice appears next to Orpheus, before being swallowed by darkness.
L’opera è composta da pochi elementi essenziali: i corpi (rappresentati come sculture classiche); la dialettica luce-ombra; lo sfondo scuro da cui affiorano forme geometriche, astratte e organiche; l’onda sinuosa dello Stige, che si addensa in un flusso di colore sulla tela e si cristallizza nella curva flessuosa di marmo.
The work consists of a few essential elements: the bodies (represented as classical sculptures), the dialectic of light and shadow, the dark background from which geometric abstract and organic shapes emerge; the sinuous wave of the Styx, which thickens in a flow of colour on the canvas and crystallises in the willowy curve of marble.
