Torque is a measure of the forces that tends an object to rotate and reaction torque is the force that is acting on the object that is not allowed to rotate such as a screwdriver trying to open a rusted screw. Taking Measurements The torque measurements are necessary and different methods of obtaining reliable data from the moving objects are used. A torque transducer converts the observed torque into the electrical signals. Strain Gauge is the most common transducer used to convert torque into electrical resistance. It is fixed on a beam or any structural component that experiences deformation when torque is applied.

When the deflection occurs, it generates stress that transforms its resistance, and the Wheatstone bridge converts the change in resistance into an output signal.

The reaction torque sensor is so designed that it avoids side loading /bending and axial loading, and only torque loading is observed. The output given by the sensor is a function of force and distance and is typically expressed in Newton-meters, inch-pounds, or foot-pounds.

The use of reaction torque sensors is allowed when limited rotation won't break the cable. Using this, the error featuring the inertia of rotating members is minimized.

The applications of reaction torque sensors are calibration of torque wrenches, testing of the breaching torque of aircraft fasteners, and monitoring the torque of child-resistant containers.

Other methods that are widely used for measuring torque depend on mounting transducers in the machine train or on the rotating shaft. There are a few limitations to strain gauges in these applications. The two most common methods to acquire torque measurements are by strain the use of the strain gauge and in-line torque cells.

All of these measurements and output signals need to be displayed accurately through a Torque Meter.
