Sarum Hall School

Spirit • Happiness • Success

“Our daughter is safe and well looked after by caring and nurturing teachers; she is taught in a positive and encouraging way.” (parent)

Welcome from the headmistress

Sarum Hall School is an independent day school for girls aged 3-11. We believe that all children can thrive in education by experiencing a balanced, engaging and relevant curriculum that offers practical tasks and opportunities to embed learning through demonstration and application. Our focus is on achieving individual success for the pupils in our care, as we recognise the importance of developing each child as an individual with a unique set of skills and achievements. Our pastoral care underpins the school ethos and our approach is to provide opportunities for individual and collaborative praise through the celebration of high academic standards and a strong sense of citizenship.

“The enthusiasm and warmth of the teachers creates a really positive and stimulating learning atmosphere for my child.” (parent)

Admissions

We operate a non-selective admissions process at our main point of entry in Nursery (apart from siblings, and daughters of Alumni for whom automatic admission is awarded) and therefore girls from many different areas, backgrounds, nationalities and religions are represented. We have a broad range of educational abilities and despite being non-selective, we challenge our pupils to achieve high academic standards in order to realise their personal best. There are 24 girls in each class and this, combined with our single form entry structure, ensures a strong family feel and community spirit throughout all aspects of school life.

“Sarum Hall demonstrates a good blend of educational rigour and a breadth of subjects to include the arts, music and languages. It has a strong ethos and good values.”

Why choose Prep?

Pupils start Sarum Hall after their 3rd birthday and we place a huge emphasis on integrating our Nursery pupils from the outset. Laying strong foundations at the start of a child’s educational career is vital for them to make progress and build strong relationships, both with their peers and our staff. Children change rapidly in their formative years therefore we promote the structure of choosing a school for the primary years of education before moving on to a senior school. This enables each pupil to access a range and breadth of curriculum subjects, extra-curricular clubs and activities, as well as opportunities for positions of responsibility, which, in turn, allow each pupil to find their passion and become innovative leaders.

“Always look on the bright side of life and you will find many positive things in the face of negativity, if you look hard enough and want to find them.”

Why choose single sex?

Our educational model enables girls to be themselves and empowers them to be leaders, confident of speaking their minds. There is no doubt that girls can achieve anything. We nurture a growth mindset, teach resilience and foster a strong work ethic in order to illustrate to every pupil at Sarum Hall, what they are capable of. It is important to note that whilst our lessons are single sex, we embrace opportunities for collaboration with other schools. We ensure that we host events and clubs to promote a healthy engagement with girls and boys across a wide range of activities and ages.

“My favourite thing about Sarum Hall is that when I get there at the start of the day, everyone is happy to be there and excited to start learning.”

Senior Schools

We have a broad range of educational abilities and despite our non-selective nature, parental aspirations are high and our girls transfer to the leading senior independent schools – both day and boarding. Our approach is to match each girl to the appropriate setting for their secondary education, taking a holistic approach by considering a raft of different areas of school life. The Headmistress meets with parents individually to discuss options in the Summer Term of Year 5. We believe in teaching the girls a set of transferrable skills, which they will use and apply in all aspects of life, establishing them as strong, confident and independent young women with a zest for life and a thirst for knowledge.

“There is a collective dedication and commitment to high quality education, care and support of the whole school community.” (Staff)

Curriculum

We have high academic standards and develop our pupils as creative, independent thinkers with an enthusiasm and passion for learning. We instil a sense of curiosity into each child and encourage them to apply the information they have learnt to a variety of scenarios, ensuring that each concept is embedded in their understanding. Practical learning that facilitates handson experiences lies at the heart of ensuring every pupil has access to all aspects of the curriculum. Our aim is to nurture and challenge our pupils across a broad curriculum.

“Don’t be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered” (Michelle Obama)

Spirit Happiness Success

Our motto of spirit, happiness, success underpins our philosophy of individuality, inclusivity and positivity. We nurture a spirited approach to school life where enthusiasm and energy are applied across the school day, and where happiness is at the heart of accessing the curriculum; we believe that a child will only be receptive to their schooling if they are happy to be at school! We want all our pupils and staff to make every day a success and to seize the many varied opportunities available to them.

“Sarum Hall strikes an overall balance between learning and personal development at all levels.” (parent)

Golden Values

The Golden Values of kindness, courage, respect, honesty, fairness and resilience ensure that every girl develops as an individual with a strong sense of purpose and moral compass both in the school community and society beyond. We encourage children to engage with their future and understand their role in shaping the world in which they will live and work. We hope that Sarum Hall gives every pupil the tools to be a critical thinker and to challenge and bring about change at all stages of their lives.

“Sarum Hall provides a friendly, warm, welcoming and humble environment that teaches acceptance and respect for all.” (parent)

Community at Sarum Hall

There is a strong sense of community at Sarum Hall and we place great emphasis on the importance of an active partnership between school and home. We maintain clear lines of communication, provide many opportunities to attend events at the school, have annual curriculum evenings, parents’ evenings and a robust reporting system to ensure a cohesive approach. Parents are invited to attend our weekly class assemblies, performance assemblies, concerts and productions, to name a few! There are termly Class Reps meetings with the Headmistress to ensure there is a clear vehicle for communication. The Sarum Hall Parents’ Association is a thriving part of the community which positively encourages contribution from parents to provide a raft of opportunities for the pupils, whilst raising vital funds for charity.

“I love the fact that the school is so colourful. All my friends here are very independent and Sarum Hall is very encouraging and treats everyone as equals.” (PUPIL)

Facilities

In 1995, the school moved into the award-winning purpose-built premises at 15 Eton Avenue. Our modern and inspiring facilities enable the children to progress and excel in a variety of fields. In addition to our light and spacious classrooms, we have a dedicated Science Lab, Art Room, Food Studio, Library, ICT suite and separate Music and Drama classrooms, which provide cross-curricular learning opportunities and enable us to deliver a broad and engaging curriculum. We are proud of our outdoor space which boasts a floodlit netball court and 4 short tennis courts, garden, pond and our iconic treehouse and beach huts. Despite the many changes and developments over the years, Sarum Hall School has remained true to Miss Webb’s original vision of a school that promotes an outstanding education for girls.

“The teachers and staff are professional, friendly and approachable. I love seeing my daughter develop in confidence to become her own individual self and have that celebrated.” (parent)

Inclusivity and Individuality

Every member of the Sarum Hall community brings an exciting individuality to the life of the School. We want everyone to flourish through a sense of belonging and we create a diverse and inclusive environment which encourages children to be curious and embrace innovation, whilst striving for excellence and making a positive contribution to society. All pupils are encouraged to be open to change and develop the resilience and skills that are required to lead happy, healthy, active, creative and fulfilling lives. We want every member of our school community to feel valued and included.
