The Other Side tells the story of a child zombie and his experiences in an apocalyptic world. The story is set in Amsterdam, after a big barricade has been set to divide the city in two sides, the zombie land and the human world.
In this world of mayhem, Tin, the protagonist of our story, will embarc on a journey to rejoin his family, who, after Tin was bit, were forced to abandon him and relocate to the human side. On his journey, he will face many great challenges and unexpected encounters.

Tin, abandoned by his family when needed most, is obliged to stay among his kind on the zombie land. Those measures could not stop him from getting back together with his loved ones. Plan after plan, Tin ideated the perfect strategy to get himself to the other side. That’s when he crosses the border by sneaking inside a freight truck.
But his expectations fade once he reaches his first checkpoint, the human world is empty and desolate. As he explores this new world, he encounters signs of disconfort and hatred towards his kind, so he’ll have to avoid and survive any threats in order to arrive to his family’s house on top of the highest hill.
The early sketches made on the storyboard have been translated to the final look of the shortfilm by using a combination of both traditional and CGI elements, using different softwares and programs to enhance the final result.
The design for the background was inspired by the current Amsterdam skyline. Some of the trademarks of Dutch arquitecture are its colorful buildings and their extravagant and long ridge roofs. During the duration of the film we find details explaining the events that occurred in the world and its history through pieces of newspaper and anti-zombie propaganda.

Final design for Tin
Tin, the protagonist of the short film, is an 11-year-old zombie boy who lives in the world of the infected, isolated from the uninfected human society. His only purpose is to find his family, from which he was separated when he was bit.
To do so, together with his fellow adventurer Lappet, he devises all kinds of plans, mostly disastrous, in order to cross the wall to the other side. He is very honest and amicable, and although he is a little bit of a scaredy-cat, he is also an undeniable adventurer at soul.
Once the new "zombie prevention measures" were established, Tin began to get used to life among the infected, he realized that zombies are not as they are portrayed in the movies, but that they have feelings, emotions and goals.
However, life without a family had no meaning for him, he spent his days alone, looking for activities so as not to fall into the madness of boredom. Everything got better when she met Lappet, but he would still do anything to reunite with his family.
This joureny has defenitely been a lifechanging event for Tin, who in just a matter of hours, has discovered a whole new world of violence and distrust, and has overcome challenges in order to reach his ultimate goal of reuniting with his family.

Lappet is an Andalusian vulture who lives with Tin and accompanies him on each of his adventures. Although it's a mutual feeling, his goal is to protect and warn Tin from all the evils he might encounter in his jouneys, even though most of the time Tin ends up ignoring his advice. He acts, in a way, as a brotherly figure for Tim in the absence of his family.
He would be defined as: Protective, intelligent, suspicious, a bit arrogant and very loyal.

The old lady appears right in the middle of their journey, when Tin and Lappet explore the human world. The first impression you get of her is that of an adorable and harmless old woman; what doesn't show on the surface is her deep hatred of zombies and her ability to hunt them down.
Gerda will pursue the two intruders and try to finish them off in order to protect the uninfected population and at the same time earn some money on the side.
She would be defined as: Dishonest, intelligent, violent, swindler, manipulative and greedy.
