Maintaining Your Wood Grain Car Interior – The Steps to Follow
Wood grain interior trims are classy and look great! These remind us of classic cars such as the Jaguar, Mercedes, Lexus, BMW ect. A wood grain car interior can add more class to your vehicle and is a great investment. If you do purchase and install a wooden interior dash trim kit make sure to keep it clean and provide proper care to ensure its classiness lasts many years. Otherwise, it may begin to fade and make your wood grain car interior look dull.
Cleaning the Wood Grain Car Interior
If your wood grain trim has become excessively dirty or you have left it unattended for a long time, then you should clean it thoroughly using a diluted all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber towel. You can also use soft bristled brushes for accessing the tight areas, curves and corners. When using an all-purpose cleaner you should also make sure to remove all residue thoroughly without letting it dry anywhere on the trim.
Once you are done with cleaning off contaminants and dust you will be able to see the actual condition of the wooden trim. In case the trim has faded or got light scratches, then you can polish it to remove any imperfection you may notice. For polishing the wooden trim, you can use an all in one polish product that is designed for your car. Apply a small amount of the product using a sponge or microfiber pad in a circular motion as well as linear motion. Allow the polish to dry completely; you can buff it off using a soft microfiber towel. Keep one thing in mind while polishing your wood grain car interior i.e. be careful not to contaminate the surrounding of the trim with the residue of the polish. You can also tape off the trim using painters tape is a great idea.
If you have neglected the trim for more than a considerable amount of time then you will need to repeat the polishing process until the trim restores to a satisfactory standard.
Wax to Protect the Trim
Now that the polishing part is over, it is time to wax your wooden trim using a good quality product. It helps in protecting and sealing the trim in the best way possible. Moreover, waxing will also bring out the clarity of the wood grain and enhance the reflections of the clear coating.
You should apply the wax using a sponge or microfiber applicator pad. Leave it to cure and then buff it off using a clean soft microfiber towel. Make sure you do not contaminate any of the surrounding trim with wax residue.
