MUSEO del CRISTALLO

Museum of Contemporary Glass Art | Sant’Elena, Venice, Italy | 60,000 ft2 | Exploring the Properties of Brick & Glass

The revolutionary techniques of Venetian glassblowers have been ingrained in my memory ever since I got to see them in person as a child. When I was given the opportunity to design a cultural center in the Southeastern island of Sant’Elena, I knew these works of masterful artisanship were something I had to emphasize through a suitable space due to the lack of a proper exhibition hall for these artworks on Venice proper.

Mixed-Use Urban Development | St. John’s County, Florida, USA | 138,000 ft2 | Exploring the Properties of Wood & Concrete

Nestled just West of St. Augustine will be a neighborhood with a loosely written code, whereby I could propose a mixed-use apartment essentially unconstrained by rules. I abstracted ideas from its neighboring city, shaped by water and built of planks and aggregates, to create a wood-inspired facade which floats above floodlines around the upper levels of a concrete structure. I then used parametric design to remove random slats around the lower floor parking structure, to remind us of the damage that rising tides may yet cause on our future built environment.

EL BANQUITO

Physically & Digitally Fabricated Bench | Coral Gables, Florida, USA | Exploring Modular Wood & Concrete Construction

There is a level of connection one can achieve with a project by building something physical that makes conceptual creations pale in comparison. When I had the chance to test the University’s new concrete 3D printer, I decided to create a modular bench that combined woodworking techniques with digital fabrication to create a beautiful furniture piece
