Welcome to Darul Uloom London School Assalaamu-Alaykum Welcome to Darul Uloom London School. We pride ourselves in delivering the highest standard of education; both in the Islamic and Secular fields. We ensure the learning process and growth of each child is well-rounded, academically, morally, spiritually, athletically and creatively.

This prospectus is intended to give you an insight into some of the important workings of the school and to reflect our ethos and expectations. It cannot replace the day-to-day vibrancy of life at the school and its boarding environment. We strongly recommend finding some time to come and see us in action. We aim to provide a welcoming environment for all our guests and visitors.

With the correct inspiration and challenge, we believe that every child can succeed in life.

We aim to support this through a strong academic and Islamic curriculum supported by our outstanding and ever-improving extra-curricular provisions.

Our blend of traditional values combined with innovation and creativity provides a rich environment for development and growth.

Premises and History

By the will of Allah and the efforts of the community, led by our founding principal Mufti Mustafa Sahib (May Allah Ta’la accept his efforts and allow the school to continue to thrive), we were able to acquire this purpose-built hostel constructed in 1974.

Our premises comprises of 130 modern rooms, classrooms, dining hall, assembly hall, prayer hall, gym, playing ďŹ elds and car parking with over 100 spaces. The total area of the building grounds is 10 acres.

All the 130 modern rooms are fully furnished with cupboards, carpets, beds, and mattresses.

An extension was built in 2007 consisting of further 18 classrooms, a science laboratory, a new prayer hall, and ablution facilities.

Islamic Ethos and Curriculum

The Islamic ethos of our school is of utmost importance. We place a strong emphasis on good manners, behaviour, punctuality, dress code, mutual respect for fellow pupils and respect for staff and parents alike.

Darul Uloom London School provides higher Islamic education alongside subjects from the secular curriculum with the ambition being for our pupils to develop into expert Muslim leaders to serve their communities throughout the UK, and make a positive contribution in the social coherent of a multi-cultural society.

Our Islamic Curriculum comprises of: 1- Hifz: (The memorization of the Holy Qu’ran) This course consists of the memorising of the Holy Qur’an. The basic prerequisite for this course is that the student can recite the Qur’an fluently and correctly.

to read fluently and correctly.

The average duration for this course is 4 years.

2- Islamic Theology: This course consists of: > Arabic Grammar - Surf/Nahwa, Lughat, etymology. > Fiqh - Islamic Jurisprudence > Tafseer - The translation of Qur`an with explanation and commentary. > Ahadith - Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan an-Nasa'i, Mishkat al-Masabih, Jami` at-Tirmidhi. > Aqaa’id - Religious beliefs. > Tajweed - Rules and correct pronunciation of the Qu’ran.

2a- Anjuman (Educational Forums) In this faculty of studies, the students are encouraged and taught every Saturday for 1 ½ hour on how to give lectures, speeches confidently.

Furthermore, discussions on how to participate in debates in an articulate and respectful manner.

Secular curriculum

Alongside our thriving Islamic studies curriculum, our secular curriculum allows students to develop and achieve the “best of both”! We are an Edexcel registered centre and can offer GCSE and A-level Qualifications.

Safeguarding Darul Uloom London School fully recognises its responsibilities for safeguarding and child protection and is aware that the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children are of paramount importance.

The whole ethos of Darul Uloom London School aims to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding of the needs of others, the promotion of British values and the stern stance against any form of extremism, thus developing a sense of self-esteem and fulfilling an awareness of the importance of tolerance and co-existence. This is intrinsic to the aims and objectives of the school.

Darul Uloom London School prides itself on its culture of open and effective communication between staff and pupils, and its excellent pastoral support structures. We prepare all of our pupils to make reasoned, informed choices, judgements and decisions.

Time is allocated for discussions and advice around safeguarding and also in developing within pupils the confidence of that which they require to recognise abuse.

This includes advice on how to deal with abuse between pupils.

All pupils know that there are a range of trusted people to whom they can turn to if they are worried. This also includes independent listeners. The independent listener’s contact details are displayed on information boards around the school.

Boarding Life The boarding environment is intended to ensure that students can study and stay here in comfort and good spirits. Students and boarding staff at Darul Uloom London School recognises the importance of Deen (Religion) in our lives and the value of studying this Deen in a productive Islamic environment.

• In the boarding, there will be other students of similar age.

However, they may be of different backgrounds and from different places. It is important to get to know your roommates; this is part of learning about our fellow Muslims.

• No electrical equipment is allowed in the bedroom. Keeping bedrooms clean and tidy is the students' responsibility. The bedrooms are inspected regularly to ensure that they are clean.

Above all, remember Rasulullah ‫ ﷺ‬has stated that cleanliness is half of Imaan.

• No food or drink is allowed in the boarding aside from water.

• No medicine is allowed to be taken into the boarding, if you do have any medication, please hand it into the office upon arrival.

• Students are encouraged to personalise their rooms in conformity to the principles of Islam, to suit their comfort. e.g. posters, rugs, drawers, curtains and pot plants etc.

• Students are required to bring their own pillows, blankets and bedsheets to suit their own comfort. In emergency cases, the housemasters can be approached to request bedding.

Statement of Boarding Principles & Practice Our ambition is to support students to achieve their highest potential Insha’Allah!

At Darul Uloom London School, we nurture our boarders to lead a fulfilling and happy lives in a comfortable, spiritual and secure environment, so that they may progress in their religious and secular learning.

Darul Uloom London accepts a wide range of pupils of differing abilities and interests and we are happy to accept any boarder who we feel will thrive in our friendly and caring environment.

The Senior Management Team handles all registrations and admissions to the school and this is done through a personal interview with the student and his parents, several initial assessments and finally a report from the child’s previous school containing his academic levels and reference to his behaviour.

A decision is then made after consultation and admission would either be granted or refused.

Boarding is allocated by age groups, in separate wings and on separate floors. Some experienced Housemasters are readily available to assist in any issue that may arise and are easily approachable.

Some Housemasters reside on-site and are always available should help and/or advice be required. A duty log is kept (Incident record sheets) in which minor misconduct and sanctions are recorded.

Major incidents requiring formal sanctions are recorded in the Major Sanctions folder but can only be sanctioned by the Head of Boarding or

Principal. Complaints or issues may be raised with Teachers, Housemasters, Senior Leadership Team, The Designated Safeguarding Lead or the Principal via the school’s open-door policy.

There are Independent Listeners available for all students to provide counselling and confidential reporting of issues or concerns. Students generally feel comfortable approaching members of staff if they have a matter or complaint that they wish to discuss.

The school has an Islamic foundation that also actively promotes British values, and its religious teachings play an important role in the moral and spiritual development of the students. Welfare support is provided through mentoring by the Boarding staff and the Teachers.

Medical care is offered by the appropriately trained Boarding staff and administration staff, who are all trained in Medical Administration and First Aid. During weekends on-site boarders over 16 years of age, are permitted to go to the local town centre for shopping or for local amenities but must return by the designated time (4 pm). The boarding staff provide a program of activities for evenings and weekends which allow boarders to have access to sports and recreation facilities within the main school campus.

Year 7 boarders are allowed to go home every weekend but must return on Sunday before 5.30pm. All other boarders will be allowed to go home every 2 weeks for the weekend.

All pupils are obliged to attend all prayers regularly and on time.
