ON THE ROAD AGAIN… AGAIN -.Dartmouth is almost halfway into its current seven-game road trip, having played three straight away from Thompson Arena. A pair in the North Country next weekend against Clarkson and St. Lawrence will follow the upcoming contests in Pittsburgh to cap the second seven-game road swing in as many years for the Green. -.Dartmouth is still looking for its first road win of the season and is 0-2-1 heading to play RMU. SCOUTING ROBERT MORRIS -.The Colonials also had a weekend off without games, bringing a 5-3-1 overall mark into the pair against the Big Green. Of those 10 games, eight have come against Atlantic Hockey competition with just a win (6-2) and a tie (4-4) against Ohio State making up the team’s non-conference schedule thus far. -.Junior Brady Ferguson leads the team across the board offensively, scoring eight goals and dishing out 10 assists for 10 points. Sophomore Alex Tonge is second with seven goals and six assists for 13 points. - .Freshman Francis Marotte has been the team’s netminder nearly two-thirds of the time this year, boasting a 5-1-1 mark to go along with a 1.48 goals against average and a .951 save percentage, third-best figure in the nation.

FIRST OF THE SEASON -.Junior Alex Jasiek notched his first goal of 2016-17 in Burlington, finishing off a passing play from linemates John Ernsting and Grant Opperman with a backhand from just outside the goal crease. -.Jasiek’s last goal was in Game 2 of last spring’s first-round playoff series against Colgate on March 5. FIRST OF THEIR CAREERS - .Freshman Will Graber had made himself known with three assists in his first five career games, but he finally got a goal of his own at the 8:12 mark of the third period at Vermont. - .Not only did the goal mark the first of Graber’s career, it was also gave freshmen linemates Shane Sellar and Charley Michalowski their first career points with assists on the play. FIRST APPEARANCES -.Ben DiMaio and Adrian Clark made their first game appearances in the loss to Vermont. -.DiMaio was inserted into the lineup, playing on the blueline with Josh Hartley. -.Clark came into the game at the 10:09 mark after starter Devin Buffalo was chased following three goals on six shots. Clark allowed a goal on the first shot he faced, but settled down and needed to make just 11 saves in 45:13 of action before head coach Bob Gaudet went with the extra attacker for the final 4:38 of play. POINT STREAK With the assist on the Jasiek goal, sophomore John Ernsting now has points in three straight games (2-1-3), the longest such streak of his career. Ernsting had assists in Games 2 and 3 of the postseason series against Colgate last year for his previous career-best stretch. PLAYING IN AN NHL BARN -.When it takes to the ice Sunday at PPG Paints Arena, it will have been 107 games since Dartmouth last played in an NHL facility. -.The Big Green last played on NHL ice in a pair of games to open the 2013-14 season against Princeton (L, 3-2/OT) and Brown (L, 5-3) in the Liberty Shootout on Oct.25-26, 2013. The games were played at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, home of the New Jersey Devils. -.Prior to those games in Newark in 2013, the last time Dartmouth played in an NHL arena was Mar. 15, 1980. The Big Green played Cornell in the old Boston Garden for the ECAC Championship, eventually falling, 5-1. The team would play in the Frozen Four two weeks later, but the 1980 national semifinals and final were played at the Providence Civic Center and not an NHL facility. Current head coach Bob Gaudet was a junior and starting goalie on that team. OUTSHOOTING -.Of Vermont’s 23 shots against last Tuesday, 15 came in the first period as Dartmouth held them to eight over the final 40 minutes of play. The Catamounts fired just three shots on goal in the second and five in the third, scoring once in the final frame. -.Outside of the anomaly that was Quinnipiac’s 54 shots, Dartmouth has been holding the teams to an average of 23.2 shots against per game. With the QU game taken into account, opponents are averaging 28.3 shots on goal per game. -.Dartmouth has outshot the opposition in every game except the loss in Hamden so far in 2016-17. SPECIAL TEAMS: AN UPDATE -.An 0-for-9 night on the power play at Vermont moved Dartmouth’s season-long struggle with the man-advantage to 0-for-40. -.Not only are the Big Green the only team in the nation without a power-play tally this season, Princeton and Bentley are the next worse with three so far. Robert Morris is fourth in the country, converting on 26.9% (14-52). -.The penalty kill (25-33) ranks 54th in the nation with a 75.8% success rate. RMU isn’t much better at 78.7% to rank 48th. A HOMECOMING FOR SHOUP Tim Shoup is heading home for Thanksgiving… kind of. Shoup is a native of Upper St. Claire, Pennsylvania, a township located just half an hour south of PPG Paints Arena and downtown Pittsburgh.

GAME NOTES

VS. ROBERT MORRIS

A COUPLE OF KEYSTONE STATE GUYS -.In addition to Shoup, Saturday’s game at RMU Island Sports Center will mark the first games played in Pennsylvania for Shane Sellar (Carlise) and Kevin Neiley (Warminster). -.Sellar is from just outside of Harrisburg, while Neiley’s hometown is a suburb of Philadelphia.

1/2/16............................... Hanover*................................... W, 5-1 * Ledyard Classic

WAIT… WHERE IS PENNSYLVANIA? -.This weekend marks the first time playing in the state of Pennsylvania for the Big Green since a 5-2 win at nowdisbanded Penn on Feb. 18, 1978. The Quakers eliminated their program following that season. -.Dartmouth has never played at Mercyhurst, Penn State or Robert Morris — the state’s three Division I teams — prior to this weekend.

Overall: ..............................................................................1-0-0 At Home: ...........................................................................1-0-0 On Road: ........................................................................... 0-0-0 Neutral:............................................................................. 0-0-0 In Overtime:.................................................................... 0-0-0 In Postseason:...................................................................0-0

APPROACHING 900 -.Head coach Bob Gaudet ’81 will be behind the bench for his 894th and 895th career games this weekend. Barring any unforeseen issues, Gaudet will reach his game No. 900 as a head coach (between Brown and Dartmouth) on Dec. 31 against either Colgate or UMass Lowell in the Ledyard Classic. -.Gaudet has coached 627 of those games with the Big Green, the most by any coach in program history, ahead of the legendary Eddie Jeremiah ’30 (567). WHAT’S AHEAD? Following the weekend in the Steel City, Dartmouth returns home only to get on the bus two days later and venture to Potsdam and Canton, New York, to take on Clarkson and St. Lawrence next weekend in the final ECAC Hockey games of 2016.

OLDER NOTES CAM STANDS STRONG -.Freshman Cam Strong has played in four games this season and now has a point in each of them. -.Strong scored a goal against both Quinnipiac and Princeton in the most recent contests and is averaging a point per game early in his career. -.The first Montana native ever to play for the Big Green, Strong currently leads the team in both goals (3) and points (4). BUFF STANDS ON HIS HEAD -.Yes, he allowed six goals, but Devin Buffalo was the lone reason Quinnipiac didn’t reach double digits in tallies on Friday night. Dartmouth’s netminder stopped 48 shots in the game, eclipsing his previous personal high set against Michigan in Ann Arbor last November in his first career start by 11. -.Buffalo’s previous best for saves in a game this season was 23 in a tie with Cornell. He nearly reached that figure in the second period alone against the Bobcats, turning away 20 shots in the frame. GOALS AND ERNIE -.Coming into the weekend, sophomore John Ernsting had just one career goal. He doubled that in the first two road contests of the year, scoring once against both the Bobcats and Tigers. -.Ernsting now has netted two of his three career markers against Quinnipiac as his first and only goal of his rookie campaign came in the home loss to the Bobcats in late January.

DARTMOUTHHOCKEY

FIRST MULTI-POINT GAME -.Sophomore Alex Jasiek picked up two assists in the first period of Friday’s loss at Quinnipiac, earning his first multipoint effort in a Dartmouth sweater. The second-year forward helped set up both Kevan Killistoff and John Ernsting for their first goals of the season. -.Jasiek was unable to add to that total as he was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct just 1:22 into the second period, ending his night after just 21 minutes of play.

4

FIRST MULTI-POINT GAME… FOR A ROOKIE -.Freshman Will Graber became the first freshman to amass more than a single point in any game this year as he also assisted on a pair against Quinnipiac. -.Graber trails only Strong in rookie scoring as he has three assists this season, with two helping to set up Strong scores. 100 FOR OPPS -.After sitting out Friday’s game with a suspension, senior and alternate captain Grant Opperman will be playing in his 100th career game Tuesday night at Vermont. -.Opperman becomes just the 97th player in program history to reach 100 career games played.

BOB GAUDET HEAD COACH | DARTMOUTH CLASS OF 1981

20th SEASON AT DARTMOUTH 29th YEAR AS HEAD COACH Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction. Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ‘91, fifth in ’92, third in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ’95. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ‘01, third in ‘05 and was tied for first in 2006-07. During Gaudet’s time at Brown, the Bears were crowned Ivy League champion twice (1991 and 1995) and, in 1993, made the school’s first NCAA appearance since 1976. In both 1993 and 1995, he was a finalist for Division I Coach of the Year. He was named ECAC Coach of the Year in 1995 after leading Brown to a second-place finish in the league, just one-and-a-half games behind first-place Clarkson. The Bears also spent much of the year in and out of the top 10 in the national polls. Gaudet became head coach of the Bears in 1988 following a five-year tenure as an assistant coach with the Big Green. He assisted in all aspects at Dartmouth under head coaches George Crowe and Brian Mason, while coordinating recruiting efforts and serving as varsity goaltender coach. In addition, he directed the junior varsity program his first season in Hanover. Gaudet graduated in 1981 with a degree in visual arts after four productive seasons for the Big Green hockey team. In 1979 and 1980, Gaudet led the team to Ivy League titles and appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four. As a senior, he served as co-captain and was a recipient of the Philip D. McInnis Award for spirit, loyalty and dedication to Dartmouth ice hockey. In 76 career games, he made a school-record 2,129 saves, while allowing only 299 goals for a 4.00 career goals-against average and an .877 save percentage. He had his most successful campaign as a sophomore when he recorded two of his fourcareer shutouts to go along with a 3.03 goals-against average. He was First Team All-Ivy in 1978-79 and 1979-80, and was a two-time recipient of the Canterbury Society Award for the best Ivy League goalie. Following graduation, Gaudet signed a free-agent contract with the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. He played for minor-league affiliates of Winnipeg in the CHL and IHL for one year before a knee injury cut short his promising career. Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. Like her father, Kelly was a goaltender as well as co-captain of the girl’s ice hockey team while at Hanover High School. Kelly is a member of the Class of 2017 at Dartmouth.

In the last several seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11, eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12 and reaching 800 career games coached, doing so in a 1-1 tie at Vermont in 2013-14. In 2014-15, Gaudet reached both 250 wins at Dartmouth and 350 career wins between Hanover and his time at Brown. In 28 seasons as a head coach, including the last 19 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and 11 total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL. Entering the 2016-17 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 279 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. The 2015-16 season was special for Gaudet for both his current and former players. He guided the Big Green back to the ECAC Hockey semifinals for the seventh time, becoming the first team in conference history to reach the league’s final weekend of competition without having a single player earn a spot on any of the three all-conference teams, demonstrating a team-first mentality. Ben Lovejoy ’06 also helped the Pittsburgh Penguins capture the fourth Stanley Cup in franchise history and, in the process, became the first Dartmouth player since Myles Lane ’28 in 1929 to win the Stanley Cup. Lovejoy, the first New Hampshire-born player to win the Cup, brought the trophy back to Thompson Arena for a public event where he was introduced to the crowd by Gaudet whom Lovejoy credited with “giving me a second chance at hockey.” After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 199798 campaign. In 2010-11, Gaudet and the Big Green made huge strides to return to national prominence. Dartmouth finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation after posting 19 wins and winning the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Atlantic City, N.J. At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from 2000-01 to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 . The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007 Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the Division I Coach of the Year award. Gaudet has now had two
