Your support creates a lifetime of opportunity.

August 2025

Dartmouth transforms lives. It brings talented young people together and provides an incredible liberal arts education in a setting that forges unbreakable lifelong friendships. Students are inspired to realize their full potential: to become lifelong learners dedicated to helping create a better world.

This transformative experience couldn’t happen without you! Financial aid directly supports more than half of all Dartmouth undergraduates. They will go forward and make positive change in their community, their country, and across the globe. The ripple effect of giving to the Dartmouth College Fund is immeasurable.

Each student has a unique Dartmouth story to tell. Two members of the Class of 2025, Sydney Hoose and Carlos Guerrero Alvarez, reflect on what the past four years have meant to them.

Thank you for your support of Dartmouth students.

Sydney ’25, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, majored in anthropology with minors in human-centered design and Native American and Indigenous Studies. “Dartmouth has over 200 Indigenous students, and that was a huge reason for me coming here,” says Sydney, a Skidi Pawnee, Chickasaw, and enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. She served as co-president of Native Americans at Dartmouth during the 2024–2025 academic year and co-chaired the Dartmouth Powwow for the past two years.

Carlos ’25, is a computer science and math double major from Alicante, Spain. He was a four-year member of the varsity tennis team, served as a team captain, and finished his Dartmouth tennis

career with 106 wins. Carlos will return to Hanover in the coming year to complete a master’s degree in computer science. His passion is artificial intelligence, a rapidly evolving and highly competitive field. “I love competing,” says Carlos. “A little bit too much sometimes.”

Dartmouth’s close-knit community—

Sydney: I’ve made so many important friendships and connections here. I’ve had a great support system with my friends and the different communities I’m involved in. I’m grateful for my Dartmouth experiences and how they’ve changed and built me as a person over the past four years.

Carlos: I have a lot of close friends at Dartmouth, certainly many members of the senior class, and that’s pretty cool. Beyond that, I’ve become close with several of my professors. From what I’ve heard from friends who go to other colleges, that’s not so common. I’m grateful for the friendships I have with my professors. They can be mentors in so many ways.

The Dartmouth tradition of paying it forward—

Carlos: Alumni have not only helped me through my college experience through financial aid support. They’ve also donated to the tennis program. That gives me a little bit of extra drive—in a good way. These people care about me, and I want to make them proud, both on the tennis court and in the classroom.

Sydney: It has been so meaningful to know there are alumni and friends of Dartmouth who care deeply about current students, and I appreciate all the opportunities and advantages that their support has made possible. It makes me want to pay their generosity forward as I go into the real world.

What’s next—

Carlos: I’m doing a master’s here next year. I am not sure whether I want to go into academia or industry, but I definitely want to get a PhD and then do AI research.

Sydney: I’m planning to attend law school eventually. I want to be a cultural heritage lawyer and work on repatriation issues, such as the return of artifacts from museums to Indigenous communities. First, starting this fall, I’m going to la Universidad de Salamanca for a two-year master’s program—a degree in global and international studies on the global business and negotiation track. I’m excited to see what happens next.
