I have always believed that architecture is a medium of establishing an intangible relationship between people and their surroundings, giving them experiences that last for a lifetime. Apart from architecture my interests lie in exploring cinema and its practices and venturing new places. I believe my extracurricular interest and architectural experience would help me grow further, professionally and personally.

The Cove
Cinema and the City Spaces of Production in Digital Era l Thesis
Guides: George Jacob , Shantanu Khandkar
The popularity of the Internet and the success of digital platforms is forcing producers, distributors, and exhibitors to adapt. As a consequence the ways of producing and consuming cinema are dramatically changing and the film industry is desperately trying to reinvent itself to such new scenarios. Hence, this thesis tries to reimagine the traditional cinema production process in a different paradigm by creating intervention that support the existing and upcoming hubs of the film industry in Mumbai. This isn’t a static industry, thus the intervention will be an attempt at creating flexibility of affordable, accessible and creative spaces within this informalised industry. The primary users of the project will be a group of artists that make a living from their creativity. Their creative endeavors bring great economic growth, cultural diversity, social connections, innovative ideas, a high tech industry, and unique lifestyles to an area. The integration of programs that promote human interaction would allow for greater opportunities to develop creative minds, boost the regional economy and develop quality content. It would create spaces where different professionals, artists, students, etc can network and strengthen their creative ideas and provide them with a platform to expand their works.

Cities are constantly evolving, not only as a result of changes to the physical built environment but also as the result of the evolving urban life of the citizens and technological advancements. An emerging phenomenon in the urban environment is the domination of digital advancements and technologies in various layers of urban life.
The film industry is one such sector that has embraced technological innovations and digitization. The impact of technology gets visible in almost all segments of film production, right from narrative techniques, advanced equipment, sound effects, to distribution and consumption of cinema.
Darshita R. Malaviya l B.Arch, KRVIA’22
Mumbai being the hub for Indian film industry, very evidently showcases the fusion of cinematic infrastructure with urban architecture. A changing culture of filmmaking and cinema viewing has resulted in newer infrastructure demands for this rising industry.
The research looks into the relationship between the traditional and digital era of film production and how the rise of such digital media and OTT platforms can prompt planners to reshape the physical spaces for the cinema and the city to come together.

Re-Visiting VJTI Guide:
Stantanu Poredi, Manisha Agarwal l Sem 7
The studio engaged with the relationship between education and the built environment in an urban campus. The intent was to reimagone living possibilities in an urban campus by exploring housing typologies through design.
The studio began with analyzing a number of case studies on Indian and International campuses and their respective housing in detail, followed by masterplanning of the VJTI campus - one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia.
Materplanning involved collaborative work of understanding density, infrastructure, phasing, programming and built/open space strategies; while detailing of the buildings was futher carried forward as indiviadual’s project.

Mumbra Town Hall

The studio used afflictions as metaphors to find cases in Mumbra that were relatable to the given affliction. Renascentia - It is a disease of the celestial cycle. Each spring brings with it is a casting of the divine dice: a new palate of ills or cures for those who survived the pervious year. Just like Renascentia, the election process is also quite unpredicatable and has both good and bad consequences. The program proposed is a townhall along with city archival and governing functions, for the citizens of Mumbra. The program evolved from the idea of creating a space for the public , where they can discuss their concerns about the town thus giving them a platform where they can question and interact with the governing body. The townhall remains a constant in this cyclic event of goverance, archiving the city’s developments and falls.

SITE VISITS l SITE STUDY
The study involved looking into the goverance and politics of the state, taking the election process as a metaphor for the cyclic ailment. Different illness and cures of the present as well as past goverance where observed amongst the people of Mumbra.
SITE SELECTION
The site selected is in Kausa region of Mumbra, which is a newer development of the town. The site has many exisiting and a few upcoming public spaces in close proximity ,which makes the proposed building more inviting for the public.

The site is located at the junction of a busy road. One side of the site faces the main entrance of the Ghatkopar station while the elevated metro station runs parallel to the adjacent edge. Since the site is adjacent to the junction, it has very good connectivity to rest of the city. The area under station is very busy and has a lot of traffic, both vehicular as well as pedestrian. It has retail shops under it. The site being located in Ghatkopar, need to follow aviation height restrictions due to its close proximity to the airport. The Vertical Village aims to create a diverse set of programmes within a mid-rise building located at prime junction in Ghatkopar, Mumbai. It is one of the major projects in this area which combines retail, commercial and residential programs. The project aims to visualise the character of the village and the surrounding area for the futuristic development and to be a green building in terms of energy consumption.
