“Darlington has played such an important part in my life that I can’t imagine not giving to the Annual Fund. In one way or another, Darlington has helped shape and define all of us – alumni, students, faculty, parents, trustees and friends. It has helped make us who we are. I’ve always considered it both a duty and an honor to give back in whatever way I can to this wonderful school, so that it can continue to do for future generations what it has done for so many of us.”

“Kevin and I feel that our children’s education is the best investment we could ever make. Tuition dollars do not cover the cost of operating the school and if Darlington is to continue to be competitive and proactively change to meet the future needs of its students, then parents and alumni need to fill in that gap. We made a gift to the Middle School because we have one daughter who has already reaped the benefits of the new facility and two more daughters who will be there before we know it. It’s exciting to see all of the families who have decided to move their children over to the Middle School. It truly is a remarkable place, on the inside and out, with programs and faculty that are just as impressive as the stonework.”

“My father, uncles and brothers all attended Darlington. They had close relationships with the teachers there and wonderful memories. It played a large part in our life even before the Thornwood-Darlington merger in 1973. Quality education is one of the most important issues in our country and will directly impact our future. I believe that Darlington is a superior educational institution with an outstanding headmaster and faculty who are committed to its mission, ‘To empower students to learn with passion, act with integrity and serve with respect.’ What is more gratifying than contributing to a school that is successfully preparing students to become contributing members of our society?”

“It always feels good to give, and knowing that I would have a positive effect on students for years to come is what made me want to be part of the Second Century Campaign. I chose to support the Elson Floyd Scholarship in honor of my grandparents, Vernon and Gaynelle Grizzard. After all, education and knowledge are the gifts that keep on giving. I could not be happier for Darlington and the success of this historic campaign.”

“To this day, the single thing that I am most proud of is graduating from Darlington. That experience gave me the confidence I needed to succeed, both in college and later in my business life. I give to Darlington because my years there were some of the most formidable in my life. I still keep the school motto on my desk at work: ‘Wisdom More Than Knowledge, Service Beyond Self, Honor Above Everything.’ In many ways, I feel like I owe some measure of whatever achievements I may have had, both personally and in business, to what I learned at Darlington.”
