Play and Stay Session
At the centre we recognise the importance of building a positive relationship with parents and carers. After all you know your child best. When your child starts the nursery we will ask you on your second visit to sit with a member of the team and have a discussion around your child development. This helps to give us a head start in getting to know
In our most recent OFSTED report the inspector noted that ‘Parents are extremely complimentary about every aspect of the nursery. They comment that the committed staff team create a fantastic learning environment for children. They comment that children thrive in their care and the staff team 'go above and beyond' for their children. ’ We provide lots of opportunity for parents/carers to become involved in their child’s learning and development at nursery. Why not come to one of our stay and play sessions that are held
One parent commented
‘Absolutely my child loves the nursery’
- Feedback from Parents
Each child at the Centre will have a key person. This is usually the member of staff that has formed the most positive relationship with your child during their settling in period. They will support the child through their transition into nursery and continue to promote their development.
Our recent OFSTED report noted ‘ The key-person system in place is strong. Staff give very high priority to supporting children's emotional development’.
‘The Childcare staff clearly know the children really well and plan activities for them accordingly’

RED ROOM
The Red room team are committed to promoting school readiness for children aged 3-5 years old. They promote independence and challenge children’s thinking. They have a range of activities to promote children’s outcomes and love to spend lots of time in the nursery garden. Practitioners effectively use the children’s interests to plan exciting activities for children.
Please take a look at our room brochures for further information on the routines and experiences of a child in the individual Childcare Centre Rooms.
We know this can be a very distressing time for your child and you therefore, we have designed this leaflet to help you and your child settle in to a nursery environment.
• Every child is individual and has different needs so the amount of settling in visits needed will vary! Some take a lot longer than others (especially if it’s their first experience in a childcare environment). Follow our induction process and come in for your visits together so that you can both become familiar with the environment and meet all of the staff team. We can then build up on each visit, leaving your child once we are all confident in doing so. We appreciate it’s not just the child that’s anxious and we are here to support you too!
• Give as much information to the staff about your child as possible, the more information the better! Include likes and dislikes, anything that may frighten your child (e.g. hoover, toilet), comforting techniques you use at home or comfort objects they have such as a dummy or blanket. You will be given an information booklet to record all this important information in which is kept in the Centre and can be amended at any time.
• You could visit the local library to get a book on starting nursery and read it to your child before starting your visits.
• If your child is really anxious we can take photographs of the staff or Nursery setting before or during the initial visits. This can help too.
• Try not to show you are anxious, upset or fretting and try to smile, commenting on the lovely activities that your child can do whilst at nursery.
• A child’s tears are perfectly normal. You may feel there is a problem at nursery and your child is unhappy, however it is usually the opposite case and the tears from the child are actually for yourself (the parent/carer).
• Make the process a quick one- when it’s time for you to say goodbye, give them a kiss/cuddle, explain carefully you are about to go and you will be back once work/college etc is finished. Don’t start to leave then come back into the room if they begin to cry or shout for you (you will prolong the difficult part). Also, don’t be tempted to tip toe out when your child’s not looking as your child will realise and may think you are not coming back. We invite you to stay in the Centre until your child had settled and we are more than happy for you to ring/email throughout the day as much as you feel you need to for your peace of mind.
The Childcare Centre use an online learning journey app called FAMLY. FAMLY is an account that creates a profile for your child and celebrates their learning and development through play-based activities. Practitioners will use this app to add photos and observations of fun things your child is doing when they are here with us. These will then be available for you to access through your chosen device. You will have access to comment on photos and read the observations.
The Childcare Centre are aware that there will be times when your child is unwell. We do have procedures in place to ensure your child, other children and Childcare Practitioners are protected against cross infection and infectious diseases.
Infectious diseases can require an exclusion period, where your child will need to remain absent from the Childcare Centre until the recommended exclusion period or treatment comes to an end. Childcare settings are required to adhere to Public Health Agency ‘Guidance on infection control in schools and other childcare settings’ in order to safeguard children and Childcare Practitioners from further infections and illnesses. Public Health Agency guidelines outline all infectious diseases and their exclusion/treatment processes. This can be found at https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/publications/guidance-infection-controlschools-and-other-childcare-settings-0 or please ask the office for a printed copy.
If your child has been sick at home, your child cannot return to nursery for 48 hours from the time they were last sick. We operate this policy to prevent other children and staff at our nursery from becoming ill.
