Class of 2020

Through community service at Daraja, Doreen developed a strong desire to see change in her community. While studying social work at University of Nairobi, Doreen volunteers with teen mothers from the slums. She takes on leadership roles as a woman of W.I.S.H. and creates meaningful connections that benefit the community all because you believed in her education and came alongside her to make a difference.

Prasin almost had to retake the KCPE a third time because she had no money to go to school. Her family could only afford one meal a day yet Prasin was determined to make school a priority. “If I can’t get into Daraja, I will take the KCPE again and make them know I am here”. Well, now she is #1 in her class at Daraja and is leading the way for her sisters! Prasin is passionate about helping her family and the community at large through her education. And because of you, now that passion can be fulfilled.

Class of 2025

From a life living on the streets to being taken into a children’s home, Faith is already impacting her community! She is now a thriving Daraja student who spends her community service time helping the Simama Project, the children’s home who gave her a chance, founded by Daraja volunteer Matt Orcutt. Because you believed in young girls who had no opportunity of going to school, Faith will now have the education of her dreams.

One Girl can change a nation and disrupt the impact of poverty.

Having experienced an unstable home where her mentally ill mother was not always around, Daki carried a heavy emotional and mental weight from a young age.

When she arrived at Daraja, she needed someone to care for her mental health and help her heal. Because of your support to Daraja’s mental health program, Daki received the counseling she needed. Without you, Daki would not be the woman she is today.

Today, she is the Founder and Director of Holistic Mental Health Africa (hmhafrica) and is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Counseling Psychology, providing support in mental health nationwide. Daki has won awards and been a featured speaker in mental health panels, bringing awareness and support to those struggling with mental health themselves as well as caregivers.

She is changing the tapestry of Kenya when it comes to mental health all because you believed in her potential.

A Daraja education lights the fire in young girls to become changemakers… all because you said yes to supporting her education.

Mesret, Class of 2015

Mesret grew up never having experienced something as simple as running water until she came to Daraja. Seeing flushing toilets and working shower heads amazed her and showed her what was possible for the first time. As a young girl, Mesret was denied the funds needed to continue her education past primary school, but because of your support, she was able to come to Daraja and see her potential unfold. She is now a Water and Environmental Engineer bringing possibilities to East Africa as she works to bring water systems to communities that so desperately need them. After having received W.I.S.H., Mesret came to feel that her voice was worth hearing and she could bring change to the world. “Daraja lit that fire that was inside me. All I needed was just that one spark for me to shine to the world.” East Africa is changing for the better because you believed in girls just like Mesret.
