MISSION

The mission of Salem International University is to prepare global citizens with broad knowledge, marketable professional skills, and the ability to make decisions with integrity and an international perspective.


The History Of

Salem International University 1888 Salem College received its charter from the State of West Virginia in December 1888 and offered its first term of instruction beginning in April 1889.

1960s Salem College expanded its physical facilities into a newer and more modern campus called the “Valley of Learning.” This is the location of the present campus.

2001 Informatics Holdings Ltd assumes control. Informatics Holdings Ltd. is a leader in providing education and training in Asia, Africa and Europe and in using technology in reaching students through online education.

Athletic Training Room

2000 Name of the institution is changed to Salem International University (SIU) to reflect a broader global learning mission.

1989 Salem College and the Teikyo University Foundation entered into a partnership to create an international learning center, Salem-Teikyo University.

2005 Salem Education LLC assumed control of SIU and began strengthening the university’s programs and operations, developing new programs of study and improving the university’s facilities and infrastructure.

Courses are delivered one course per month, which allows you to concentrate your effort without distractions or conflicting assignments. Courses generally earn 3 credits. Courses are delivered either on campus, by distance education, or blended. Distance education is via the Internet except for field work and clinical placements.

Salem will provide transfer students with a free evaluation of their transfer credits to determine the exact courses each student must complete at Salem to earn the specific degree. Active duty military personnel and veterans are encouraged to apply and will receive transfer credit based on Salem’s evaluation of ACE-recommended credits shown on their military transcripts. Experiential learning and college-level challenge exams may be accepted for credit with documentation as discussed in the catalogs.

Nursing At Salem International Prepare for a career that cares with Salem International University in our state of the art Nursing Simulation Lab.

Licensed Practical Nursing Certificate

Associate of Science in Nursing – Registered Nurse Training

Our Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) Certificate program will prepare you to provide patients with basic medical care and join the nursing profession at the entry level.

Our Associate of Science in Nursing will teach you the clinical skills you need to become a registered nurse. The Associate of Science in Nursing is an accelerated, 22-month program in which you take one class a month.

Earning your LPN takes one year. Your courses will take place on campus in West Virginia with extensive laboratory and clinical experience work. After you graduate, you will need to take and pass the NCLEX-PN examination in order to gain licensure to practice.

RN-BSN Program

Available online, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an accelerated, 20-month program in which you take one class a month.

At Salem International University, your college experience is extended beyond the classroom. Residence halls are provided to help build your social and cultural experience. You will have access to laundry facilities, study lounges, social lounges, and recreation areas. Most rooms are double occupancy, and incoming students are matched with a roommate by the Residence Life Staff.

Don’t be surprised to find quick check-ins, free accessible parking and convenient baggage claim. Here, your travel needs and your schedules come first. NCRA provides all the modern conveniences of air travel without the hassle of long lines and even longer drives.

www.centrabus.com Bus pick up location is the 7-Eleven Convenience Store, which is a short 5 minute walk from campus. This bus service will take you into Clarksburg and Bridgeport for shopping at all of the major retailers.

Pittsburgh International Airport

www.flypittsburgh.com Airport Code – PIT The Pittsburgh International Airport is a 2 hours drive from the Salem International University campus. Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is a world-class facility that accommodates more than eight million travelers in nearly 148,000 aircraft operations per year. With about 155 non-stop flights per day to 37 destinations, Pittsburgh International Airport is served by 12 commercial air carriers. Pittsburgh International Airport also provides nonstop service to Paris on Delta Air Lines with connections to 100 cities in Europe and beyond on Air France.

Mega Bus

www.megabus.com Megabus is a double decker bus that provides transportation from Morgantown, WV (45 minute drive from campus) to Washington, D.C. and Pittsburgh, PA for a nominal fee. The Megabus stop for all arrivals and departures in Morgantown, WV is located at Mountaineer Station. The street address for Mountaineer Station is 1112 Van Voorhis Rd. Reservations are required for this bus service.

Salem International University has been accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) since 1963. Education

Salem International University is an approved member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA).

Nursing

The Certificate in Practical Nursing earned full state accreditation by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses (“LPN Board”) in June 2012. It was tentatively accredited in June 2010. The program conforms to the requirements of West Virginia 10 CSR 1, Policies and Procedures for Development and Maintenance of Educational Programs in Practical Nursing. The Associate of Science in Nursing has been provisionally accredited by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses (“RN Board”) since June 2010. The program conforms to the requirements of West Virginia 19 CSR 1, Policies, Standards and Criteria for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Colleges, Departments or Schools of Nursing. The School of Education was awarded accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), http://www.ncate.org, in October 2014. This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs at Salem;however, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that the institution offers to P-12 educators for professional development, relicensure, or other purposes. The School of Education received national program recognition for its graduate level educational leadership programs and undergraduate physical education and health teacher education programs as part of the NCATE accreditation process. These include Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC), the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), and American Association for Health Education (AAHE). ELCC is the NCATE Specialized Professional Association (SPA) for leadership preparation and is governed by the National Policy Board for Educational Administration (NPBEA), http://www.npbea.org. AAHE is the NCATE SPA for health education, which is part of the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America, http://www.shapeamerica.org), formerly known as the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), http://www.shapeamerica.org/accreditation/healthaccreditation.cfm.
