In the 1960s and 1970s, U.S. communities of color, exemplified by Roxbury in Boston, faced urban challenges due to cutbacks, reduced services, and segregation. Today, architects play a crucial role in reconstructing these neighborhoods, focusing on articulating and enhancing urban spaces. This studio explores grassroots strategies, assessing the potential of architectural and urban transformation through spatial activism. Students collaborate on tailored solutions, engaging directly with community organizers and local initiatives. The goal is to empower communities in rebuilding and revitalizing, with a particular focus on Chicago's reconstruction strategies and community engagement.
