Tucked between Bernal Avenue and Del Valle Parkway, the Downtown Pleasanton neighborhood has that small-town feel close enough to walk to Main Street, which features an array of food, shopping and entertainment options.

Mark Kearns has lived in the Pleasanton area for more than 20 years, owns a business downtown and recently purchased a home there.

“I moved downtown recently to be closer to work and I love having the opportunity to walk downtown and to work if I need to,” said Kearns. “My office is on Spring Street and I live just two blocks away.”

During the summer months, the Friday Concerts in the Park and Movie Nights in the Park, liven up the evenings. Every Saturday year-round residents can enjoy the Farmers Market, sprawling through downtown with local fruits, vegetables, and wares from local artisans.

Cafes, restaurants, and shops line the streets of Downtown Pleasanton. Restaurants boast nearly every cuisine imaginable; the shops and boutiques offer everything from books to clothing, to antiques and one-of-a-kind gifts. A short stroll from Main Street is the Firehouse Arts Center, which presents some of the finest entertainment in the Bay Area.

“It really doesn’t get much better than living in Downtown Pleasanton,” said Realtor Blaise Lofland. “You can walk down to Main Street and enjoy shopping, morning coffee or tea, dining out or have a glass of wine, cocktail or a cold beer,” he continued. “Or simply just sit down, relax and do some people watching.”

Homes in downtown Pleasanton were the first built in the city, with some being built in the late 1800s. Styles range from Victorian and Queen Anne style homes to California bungalows and small summer cottages mixed in with midcentury moderns. There is a collection of newer homes called St. John’s Place off Pleasanton Avenue. With lot sizes around 5,000 square feet, homes in this neighborhood are charming and cozy, and reap all the benefits from being downtown.

Students from this area attend award-winning schools such as Valley View Elementary, Pleasanton Middle or Amador Valley High schools. Downtown boasts a choice of parks, including Delucchi Park and Veterans Plaza Park, which offers a play structure for children. Also available is Lions Wayside Park, where the very popular Concerts in the Park are held Friday nights during summer months. “Residents can enjoy all the events downtown,” Lofland said. “They can watch a theater production at the beautiful Firehouse Arts Theater, or pick up some milk, ice or soft serve ice cream cone at the Meadowlark Dairy drive-thru.” Downtown
