The Philips Company was founded in 1891 by Gerard Philips in Eindhoven and in 2000 it was relocated in Amsterdam. The Philips Company decided to release its 27 hectares historic Eindhoven campus for redevelopment.
In 2001 BVR was hired by the municipality of Eindhoven and Philips to establish the Masterplan for the Philips site also known as the Strijp-S. Following the acquisition of the Strijp-S site in 2002, the urban design office West 8 was hired to further refine this masterplan into a Final Urban Development plan. This area is being renovated for the new step in the city to become a Brain port. This area of industry is located inside the ring road making it easy to reach from the center, however it can be isolated to be able to maintain its own language and unity so the new urban project keeps the evolution.
