We recently caught up with Gustav Zwiegelaar, a long-time contributor to the magazine. We’ve missed his monthly articles and am pleased to report back that he continues to go from strength to strength. He’s unable to write a monthly piece; due to having to stretch himself between a num ber of branches but we decided to run one of his most popular articles; for the sake of the readers who used to enjoy them

that matter. How unnatural would it appear to Gracie, seeing this alien advance, walking on its heels seemingly ready to kick the daylights out of her?

Yesterday my bicycle finally came out of hibernation. It had been unused for three years. In my defence, my wrists were damaged in a motorcycle accident a couple of years ago. At the time I was on doctors’ orders to be careful about over exercising them. Consequently exercise was reduced to twisting the throttle of a motorcycle, rather than gripping bouncing bicycle handle bars. Safety First. Reaching the decision had taken some courage as I am as unfit as the opposite of a fiddle. Was this going to be easy, just like riding a bicycle? It turned out not to be. The first sign of trouble was when I emerged from the house in my cycling garb and was promptly set upon by Gracie, our bearded collie. She is a somewhat nervous creature, as it is, and the sight of this alien on her turf was enough to set off a full frontal attack. Gracie lunged at me, fangs bared, eyes ablaze, a rabid creature pouncing on fresh prey. I am uncertain about exactly how much of a prey I appeared to be but that it was a strange one is beyond question. Cycling apparel is just ridiculous. Let’s start at the top. Bright Blue helmet like an overgrown police light resembling the top of a mushroom. Add whacky wrap around cycling shades and a chin strap. This is sufficient camouflage to confuse a canine and render the face unrecognisable. Moving downward we encounter close fitting shirt with Fire Engine Red, ANC Rally Yellow and National Party Bloue Hemel Blue screaming for attention, enhancing less desirable upper torso features. Travelling lower still our canine will observe the heart of fashion darkness. All black and contoured with bumpy bits that an eager dog could easily grab on to. Black does not hide everything. It gets worse. In stark contrast with the black unmentionables we find spindly neon white and pink legs. The poor dog should have had eye protection. I cannot imagine a scarier creature in our garden. Or anywhere, for

I barely had time to shout her name, initially in alarmed falsetto but rapidly repeating it until we both stopped dead and eyed one another wearily. My cycling season was underway. On to the mighty steed. Mounting the bike I mourned the discarded gel seat. A few seasons ago my posterior was more robust as far as cycling is concerned. It was my determination that real men do not need feminine comforts such as gel seats. Alas. Changing gears. This exercise is made easier by the rapid fire gear toggles adjacent to the grips on the handles. No more fiddling vaguely with levers trying to find a gear – it is snap and go. One has to remember which way to snap, mind. As I took off I snapped into a higher gear, instead of a lower one. Being a conscientious cyclist mindful of the advantages clip in pedals offer, I was stationary, clipped in and going nowhere. There is nothing for losing your balance as quickly as trying to snap out cycling shoes clipped into pedals; especially when you haven’t had to do it for a while. You are guaranteed to fall over - and not be able to put a foot out to ward off the ground. It comes at you pretty rapidly and you are left on your side, cleated in, floundering like a hooked fish. And feeling pretty ridiculous. Que Sera. At least now my demeanour matched my looks. The first fall of the season being over, we power on. My plan was to take a relatively short ride from my house to the common and back. By the time I was halfway I was just about done in. My legs were burning, my breath was rasping in my throat and my mouth was parched. And it had been downhill all the way. It is a fact that those things that are worth doing most often are not easy and can even appear to be silly. One has to be mentally prepared for adversity, discomfort and even ridicule.

When SA Home Loans started out there were very few who were willing to give us a chance at success. Our competitors did not see us as a threat and even went as far as to ridicule us to prospective clients. We had to take a different approach to marketing and make bold statements, which of course we had to be able to deliver on – and did! In my first year or so as a consultant the question most asked by prospective clients was: “What happens if SA Home Loans folds?” There had been some casualties in the home loans business not too long before and people were sceptical. As it was, we were quirky and we were different but we were determined and passionate about what we did. We believed in our cause and our leaders and we reached out to the market with almost religious fervour, determined to make a difference in the lives of our clients. It was a truly amazing experience to deliver a life changing product to grateful home owners and to be part of building what was to become a most amazing business. Over the years SA Home Loans has matured and grown into the success story that we knew it would be. There are surprisingly many of the initial staff still around. During my tenure I have seen a good few staff members leave for better prospects, only to return some time later, finding that there is no place like SA Home Loans. The same can be said for clients. A business is not successful because of the benefits it confers on its clients or its staff. A business like SA Home Loans is successful because of true entrepreneurship which automatically adds value to all it is involved in. From our suppliers and shareholders, through our staff and allied business partners, from the self-employed workshop owner to the nurse who works night shift at Tygerberg Hospital tonight, and who just heard that their home loans were granted, we value all and we add value to all. All of us here are proud to call SA Home Loans our home. Why not call us and see whether we can add value to your life?

Mishka Patel: Anything is possible! By Danni Thunell Ende

Mishka Patel hails from a small-town called Idasvallei in Stellenbosch. She’s proof that it doesn’t matter where you come from, only where you’re going! She now wears many caps, namely: Motivational Speaker, Emcee, Health and Fitness Enthusiast, Entrepreneur, business Owner and Ambassador. She was a Miss South Africa 2014 top 12 Finalist, Miss Veet 2014 runner-up, Miss Earth South Africa 2014 Top10 Finalist and a Top 10 Finalist on Presenter Search on 3, which landed her a presenting Job on SABC3 and her current TV Presenter Title as a Pasella TV Presenter on SABC 2. With her go-to philosophy, “Anything is possible,” it’s impossible not to be inspired. What was your childhood like? I was born and bred in Idasvalley, Stellenbosch. I was extremely fortunate to have a very loving family. I was a tomboy as a child and have the scars today to prove it. How did you get into the industry? I believe after doing Miss South Africa in 2014 (Yes, I decided to do Miss SA the year Rolene Strauss won, haha!) the world became my oyster. Miss SA planted a seed and opened many doors for me. It gave me the confidence (as a 21 year old), the tools and the courage to 100% follow my dreams. What has been your greatest memory throughout your career? The people I got to meet and the friendships that came with it. People I used to watch on TV are now my friends and colleagues. If I had to name one thing it would be overcoming one of my greatest fears when I went skydiving for an insert on Pasella! You’ve been involved in a lot of pageants, what did you learn from them? That anything is possible. I grew so much after every ‘competition.’ I am one of those people who never ever give up. I now have a thick skin, I know WHO I am, what I want and what I stand for. What advice would you give other young girls out there?

DO it. Whatever it is YOU want to do, get out of your head and just do it. Forget the doubts. Forget the questions. No one will be able to do it for you. I had a rude awakening about how short life truly is, so make your passions, goals and dreams a reality for yourself. Anything IS possible. Who is your greatest role model and why? My mother. It might be a cliche to others, but it’s the truth. What an absolute powerhouse of a women. Strong, classy, elegant and an all-around wonderful human being with the biggest heart. My mother was and will always be my greatest motivator. Even now, in heaven, I have an angel to make proud. Who is Mishka Patel, describe yourself in a nutshell? A driven, fiercely-focused, motivated and goal oriented woman, with HUGE dreams and aspirations. I’m also a very normal girl. The kind of girl who enjoys ‘no makeup Mondays’ and lounging around when life allows her to. I’m a giver, a helper, a lover of life and anyone who knows me will tell you that. What are your career plans for 2018? Well, I can tell you there’s a few tricks up my sleeve. You’ll have to follow my social media platforms ;) I’m extremely excited to see what my future holds and I believe everyone should be. If you’re not waking up early every morning with a fire in your belly, you’re doing something wrong. Get your fire burning again. It’s possible.

Unlock the Value of Your Home and Release Capital By Romy Tarboton

A recent change in Cape Town’s municipal bylaws has seen developers rise up to meet the incredible demand for housing which results from a serious lack of available land in sought after, upmarket suburbs. Now, almost all home owners have an automatic right to build a sec-

Signature Real Estate was mandated in March this year as sole agents, to sell a pioneering new development in Upper Constantia, namely Forty Five on Rathfelder. Latitude Developers in conjunction with the Oakhurst Property Group identified an opportunity to develop 3 abutting SR1 (Single Residential) zoned erven into a security estate of 6 homes, by sectionalisation, affording buyers the opportunity to reside in Upper Constantia whilst enjoying the benefits of lower rates and taxes and reduced maintenance. Simply put, sectionalisation is the process of opening a sectional title scheme on a property, allowing two different owners to buy in. Since launching, Signature Real Estate has sold 5 of the 6 available sections for a whopping combined R96.94 million, proving the demand for this type of real estate in an area renowned for larger homesteads. There seems to be a misconception in the marketplace that Sectional Title ownership might be considered unappealing, but communally owned properties have fetched some of the highest sales prices

way of doing things in the Upper echelons of the Southern Suburbs where home owners are typically more traditional in their thinking but the proof is in the pudding. Sectional Title ownership is a widely accepted form of ownership and global buyers are in no way deterred. The appointment of a professional agency is paramount to this process, if your goal is to seamlessly navigate your way to unlocking wealth. The importance of understanding local bylaws, building regulations, prospective restrictions, the approvals process and the market appeal to buyers in general is made exponentially simpler with a property professional like Signature Real Estate at your side. With our recent success at Forty Five on Rathfelder we are confident in our expertise. If you would like to start a confidential conversation with us about how you too could go about sectionalising a property you own, we urge you to make contact. Whether you wish to ‘go it alone’ or sell to a developer, we work closely with developers who would welcome the opportunity to appraise your home and its inherent value. Should you be so lucky as to own already subdivided, adjoining erven, you are every developers dream! It need not happen overnight, but now is certainly the time to get the ball rolling.

PROPERTY SCAMSTERS BECOMING MORE SOPHISTICATED – THINGS TO NOTE by Johnny Henkes

As technology improves, so does the level of property scams that do the rounds, and while every precaution seems to be taken, there will be yet another thing that fraudsters find to dupe people out of large sums of money. One particularly alarming scam that is circulating, is one where emails with sensitive information are intercepted. The scam artists will send an email (seemingly from the seller) to the conveyancing firm changing the details of the legitimate bank account number for the payment of a property sale, to details of a fraudulent one. The emails look legitimate and seem normal, except the seller has not changed bank accounts, nor is aware of any change until it is too late. Conveyancing attorneys should all be particularly vigilant now, as the emails sent with replacement information are often in the name of the seller but might have a slight difference in initial or second name (or omission of one). They often will use a generic email address – so one must check each email to be sure that the email address is the same as the initial information provided by the seller. Any changes made regarding payment details must be done by the seller in person if possible, or telephonically verifying the email, and not via email alone. Attorneys need to have a strict FICA protocol in place, and any bank detail changes need to be accompanied by the required verification of the bank accounts in question. ATTORNEYS . CONVEYANCERS . NOTARIES

Documents can be falsified, email addresses cloned, and the list goes on and on, so one needs to be very wary and check every detail when it comes to property sale transactions. If dealing with an agent, buyers and sellers must check that the agent is registered with the Estate Agency Affairs Board and has a valid Fidelity Fund Certificate – this can be done online by going to https:// www.eaab.org.za. If a home is to be sold privately or through an agent, sellers should seek the guidance of their own attorney in drawing up their purchase agreement. It is the seller’s prerogative to use their own attorney to handle the transfer, and they must not be “bullied” into using the agency’s attorney. Even better, is to let your attorney handle the whole transaction – let him or her conclude the sale and deal with the transfer. In this way, you have one person or entity handling the whole transaction and fewer chances of a scam artist being able to get involved.

PULSE DERMATOLOGY AND LASER

Unveil their new beauty aesthetic clinic

By Jamie-lee Kelly

After recently undergoing a ‘facelift’, the Pulse Dermatology and Laser salon was showcased to a select few media who experienced the clinic in its fresh, new approach to the beauty aesthetics scene in Cape Town. In between glasses of Da Luca Prosecco and delicious canapés, guests were treated to a front row seat watching Dr. Nel perform a unique approach to reducing fat pockets by a process called Ceccarelli. Guests had the opportunity to experience an Elim MediHeel foot peel or hand peel, which uses an adapted procedure to treating cracked heels and worn out feet. Pulse uses a six-step programme to perform the MediHeel Peel. Once again captivated by the uniqueness of the treatment, ladies looked on in awe as Amy demonstrated the Mesotherapy Mesoglow on a patient, using a needling gun to insert hyaluronic acid and vitamin c into the skin.

This treatment can be performed for a variety of conditions namely skin ageing, acne scars, pigmentation, stretch marks, cellulite, stubborn pockets of fat and even hair loss. In the Laser Room, the ladies were able to experience a session of NIR Skin Tightening, demonstrated by beauty therapist Louise. The NIR Skin Tightening Laser is a treatment that uses a safe, infrared light that heats the skin and tissue immediately and directly under the skin’s surface. The heat produced stimulates the infiltration of fibroblast and the formation of new collagen whilst also tightening existing bundles of collagen and elastin in the skin. Pulse Dermatology and Laser endeavor to be pioneers in the industry of non-surgical aesthetic

Built on a profound respect for women, founder and owner of Pulse, Amy Bowie wanted to create an environment where women could feel comfortable and where aesthetic treatments could be accessible to all types of women, in a discreet manner. Comments Amy Bowie “We aim to ensure every treatment is tailor-made for our clients, specific to their needs and their individual concerns, and I’m thrilled to have been able to host a group of ladies and allow them to experience what we offer at Pulse Dermatology & Laser.”

HEALTH & BEAUTY

Know your Injectable treatments Aesthetic medicine is an exciting field where new treatments, new technologies and ongoing research offer the patient many wonderful options to suit their concerns and their budget. In an era of such great aesthetic opportunity, why not take advantage to look and feel your best? This month we focus on the injectable treatments such as Botox®/Dysport® and dermal fillers. Who should I see for my injectables?

Which injectable does what?

When getting Botox®/Dysport and dermal fillers, it is essential to consult with a doctor that specialises in these procedures to maintain a natural look best suited to the contours of your face. Each person’s requirements are different. It is, therefore, crucial to consult with someone who is up-to-date with the latest techniques in this ever-advancing field, and someone who performs these treatments on a regular basis. Your face deserves the best.

Botulinum Toxin (Botox®/Dysport) relaxes muscle movement and is ideal for lines and wrinkles that appear due to repetitive movement. These anti-wrinkle injections can give you a brow lift, minimise your crow’s feet, smooth out your forehead and reduce your barcode lines. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are used to add volume to the face and restore facial shape. They work by filling in wrinkles and deep lines, like nasal labial folds and marionette lines. They also plump areas that have lost fat pads, such as the cheeks, under-eye area and temples. Finally, they are used to restore lip volume and under-eye hollows.

Is it important to use specific injectable products? It is essential to ensure that the institution you choose make use of genuine products. Unfortunately, there are cheap and nasty alternatives available on the market. A good doctor will customise the type of injectable required according to your age and area of concern. Price is also an excellent indicator as to whether or not the products used are legal and genuine.

THORACIC OUTLET SYNDROME By Dr Guy Ashburner, Osteopath

“Recent studies have shown that, in general, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is more common in women than men, particularly among those with poor muscular development, poor posture or both.” ease, or a congenital abnormality (cervical rib). Poor posture and being overweight can aggravate the condition, which is more common in women than in men. It generally occurs in middle-aged women and almost always on one side of the body.

Thoracic outlet syndrome occurs when there is compression, injury, or irritation of the nerves (brachial plexus) and/or blood vessels (subclavian artery or vein) as they pass from the neck toward the armpit or upper arm through a space in the upper chest between the collar bone (clavicle) and the first rib. Thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms may include feelings of heaviness, coldness, pins and needles, numbness and weakness/fatigue in your arm or hand. Pressure on the blood vessels can diminish the flow of blood to your arms and hands, making them feel cool and tire easily. Pressure on the nerves can cause an aching pain in your neck, shoulder, arm or hand. Symptoms vary, depending on which structures (nerves or blood vessels) are being compressed. Thoracic outlet syndrome can result from injury, dis-

People most likely to develop thoracic outlet syndrome are those suffering traumatic neck and shoulder injuries from motor vehicle accidents, scrum collapse, falls, broken collar bone resulting in enlargement of the front neck (scalene) muscles and those who use computers, cell phones in non-ergonomic, poor postures (hunched over or drooping shoulders) and forward head postures, poor static postures for extended periods of time such as office workers and students Because the muscles that form this thoracic outlet canal are your accessory breathing muscles symptoms are most likely to occur during heavy exercise such as jogging and swimming. Awaking from a side-lying posture in bed often brings on symptoms in those with dysfunctional scalene muscles. Shortening of these muscles is most frequently associated with habitual dysfunctional breathing associated with high stress, long-term smoking, chronic respiratory conditions (asthma), overtraining in sport (swimming/athletics/heavy lifting) and chronic

postural changes. Young overhead athletes (such as swimmers) and musicians may also develop thoracic outlet syndrome. Activities such as heavy lifting, combing one’s hair or carrying heavy bags or heavy shoulder loads on the affected side can aggravate symptoms. Rounded shoulders and forward head posture force your scalene muscles on the sides of your neck to overwork and tighten up. The anterior and middle scalene muscles insert on to the first rib (originating from the neck bones), undue tension and shortening of these muscles will pull on and elevate your first rib which eventually causes nerves and blood vessels (neurovascular bundle) compression. Osteopathy can help in the assessment, diagnosis and management of thoracic outlet syndrome. As part of the management plan the aim is to relieve the compression of the nerves and blood vessels within the thoracic outlet thus relieving and minimising pain. Treatment may begin with soft tissue work, articulation and neck stretching. Abdominal breathing, posture correction and postural strengthening exercises may be prescribed for the patients, as part of their overall management plan.

NOT ALL TYRES ARE BORN EQUAL!!

By Vernon

Some are born with a pedigree of quality and safety and others have a pedigree of bad quality and are unsafe. It is very easy to distinguish between the two; simple the price! The price between tyres of different brands is what to look at. Why should a tyre of the same size, but different brands name vary? Also simple, the cheaper one is made cheaper and does not have the same safety features and quality of the other. The thing to remember here is; only buy recognised large tyre brands.

NOT ALL TYRES ARE BORN EQUAL!!

Some are born with a pedigree of quality and safety and others have a pedigree of bad quality and are unsafe. It is very easy to distinguish between the two; it’s simple the price! The price between tyres of different brands is what to look at. Why should a tyre of the same size, but different brands name vary? Also simple, the cheaper one is made cheaper and does not have the same safety features and quality of the other. The thing to remember here is; only buy recognised large tyre brands.

MESSAGE OF 4 POST CARDS

Imagine the size of an average post card or should I say “do you remember the size of a post card?” Well this is the size of the patch of tyre that connects with the road. These 4 patches are all you have between you and the rest of earth when you drive your car! Think of all that must happen between these patches and the road, braking, cornering, water dispersion, road hazards and acceleration. The message of the post cards is also simple; make sure the 4 patches are of the best quality you can afford. Even if you drive a 5star n-cap rated vehicle with all the safety features on offer but you have 4 patches of poor quality, it all comes to naught!

ROLLING RESISTANCE

Rolling resistance is that characteristic of a tyre to resist being rolled. It has nothing to do with the vehicle weight. It’s purely the fact that tyres don’t like rolling, sounds strange, because that’s what they do all day long. On average your car tyres use 20% or 1/5th of the vehicle’s energy just to roll!. That’s 20% of your fuel bill!! Tyre manufactures use silica and other patented substances to reduce rolling resistance, but they increase the cost of production. The cheaper tyre brands will exclude such substances in the manufacturing process to keep costs down and thereby keeping rolling resistance higher as well.

TYRE CARE

This portion of the article is very important as it will help you save money and keep you safe.

Tyre pressure

Tyres lose about 0.2bar or 3lb/sq inch over a three month period. This is due to the marriage of tyre to the rim and tyre construction. It is therefore important to check tyre pressures regularly. Once a month should suffice. A tyre’s worst enemy is heat. Under inflated tyres generates a massive amount of heat in the tyre sidewall. The tyre sidewall is the thinnest part of any passenger tyre. Blowouts can easily occur with under inflated tyres.Over inflated tyres interfere with road holding in a negative way. Correct inflation pressures brings all the tyre safety features to the fore. You can find your vehicle correct pressures on a sticker in your car’s door sill or in the hand book. Or you can google it. Remember that if you increase the load in your vehicle, you must increase tyre inflation

20

pressure. This information you can find as in the paragraph above.

Wheel alignment

Wheel alignment is the measurement and correction of your vehicle’s suspension components in order to allow the 4 wheels to run in the same direction (this is called the toe setting) as well as the angle at which the tyres meet the road. (caster and camber settings) With your toe setting only marginally out you can easily lose 40% of your tyre life! And of course the worse it is, the worse the wear. The caster and camber settings are safety related settings for better road holding.

“20% OF SOUTH AFRICAN ROAD FATALITIES ARE CAUSED BY TYRE DEFECTS!!!” - Arrive Alive South Africa “TYRES ARE UNDOUBTEDLY THE MOST CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENT ON A VEHICLE” - Transport World Africa

Tread depth

The minimum legal tread depth in South Africa is 1.6mm over 100% of the tread area, however in Japan (and other safety minded countries) it’s 3mm in summer and 4mm in winter. The following performance figures will show the reasons why New tyre (8mmtread depth) =100% performance 4mm remaining tread depth = 88% performance 3mm remaining tread depth=75% performance 1.6mm remaining tread depth=55% performance To put this in a more tangible comparison; A tyre with 1.6mm tread depth will stop a given vehicle, from 80kph to standstill, 18.6m further than the same vehicle with new tyres! The 1.6mm tyre vehicle will have residual speed of 44kph where the new tyre vehicle had stopped!! Remember to increase your following distance in wet weather, even if your tyres are new and are the best money can buy. We often change tyres that have no tread left and often some of these have the ply belts showing. See photos elsewhere in the article.

Typically neglected tyre

Driven until tyre burst - lucky for driver happened in Hout Bay as he had no spare

Tyre age

Tyres do age. The maximum safe tyre age is 5 to 7 years, depending on the environment in which it was used. UV rays from the sun is the major contributing factor here. Look for perishing cracks on the sidewalls and between the treads. When you first notice it, replace them! Cracks can and will lead to tyre failures.

Punctures

We repair on average 36 punctures a week. Punctures must be seen as a temporary measure. However as most South Africans live in the grey areas of life and will drive on punctured tyres for the rest of it’s life, we should at least reduce the speed rating of the tyre by 2 ratings. I.E. If your tyres are rated “H” it should be derated to “S” The ratings are to be found on the tyre side wall. S = 180km/h T = 190km/h H = 210 km/h V = 240km/h

CONNECTION: THE VITAL INGREDIENT FOR RELATIONSHIPS

By Janet Winterbourne

People sometimes ask me in counselling sessions “what is the magic ingredient for relationships” - there are in fact many ingredients such as communication, trust, love and support. Those and many other facets of a relationship amount to one thing- the sense and feeling of being “connected”. We all need to feel connected in life. Even if we are not in an intimate relationship, we still need to feel that we connect to our environment, our home, friends, work even our pets! Without connection people often report feeling lost, disorientated or that they don’t belong, this can sometimes lead to symptoms of depression and if in a relationship it can signal a potential breakdown. In a relationship, connection with and to each other is for me a critical ingredient, and one that I check for when I meet a new couple for the first time. The feeling of being connected shows that the couple through experience have learnt to trust each other and work together which brings a sense of stability and peace, connected couples just get on with their day to day life, not taking each other for granted, but feeling ‘safe’ that their connection is the thing that they can depend upon. And it is during tough times when a relationship IS tested that we can see the strength of that connection. A feeling of good connection boosts our overall mood, in harmonious intimate relationships the hormone oxytocin is released which is a mood enhancer. It promotes the ability to have fun together and a good connection can alleviate emotional dis-

tance and can prevent periods of non or miscommunication; as partners are able to confidently address any issues that arise without a fear of not being able to handle the situation or fearing that it may lead to some disastrous outcome. So, HOW do we boost our ability to connect? Troubled relationships may need specific guidance and help to get back on track but generally couples who can laugh and talk to each other promote bonding. This too can lead to a stronger, intimate connection. Having goals and dreams: Human beings need things to look forward to. Couples who plan even the simplest things and have goals and dreams often stick together seemingly naturally. This is because they are working towards a common desired goal together.

Date Night – Yes, that one again! We all know that we need to make time for our partners. Often, especially after a period of counselling a couple will enthusiastically plan date nights and report successful outcomes, but this needs to become the norm not just for a period of time while your relationship is under the spotlight. So often good results fade and relationships slip backwards simply because a couple stopped making time for each other, this really isn’t an option! Treat your relationship as a priority not an option. If you are genuinely committed to each other then you get out what you put in. Don’t let your issues fester, this can lead to resentment, and don’t assume (as sadly some do) that you can address issues at a later date, sometimes it IS too late to save.
