LNG oder Batterie?

Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, am 8. Dezember 2015 haben wir unseren Freund und Schiffsfotografen Cees de Bijl nach schwerer Krankheit verloren. Cees hat bereits Anfang der 70er Jahre im Raum Rotterdam und entlang der niederländischen Küste Fähren und RoRo-Schiffe fotografiert.

Seine Leidenschaft waren zuerst die Schiffe der Tor Line und bis zu seinem Tod die Flotte von DFDS und DFDS Seaways. Wir werden ihn und seine präzisen Fotografien vermissen.

Die Fähr- und RoRo-Schifffahrt entwickelt sich weiter. Nach Inbetriebnahme der ersten LNG-Fähren in den letzten Jahren verstärkt sich nun ein Trend zum elektrischen Antrieb.

Kurzstreckenfähren wie auf der Vogelfluglinie (Deutschland– Dänemark) fahren bereits mit einem Hybridantrieb, der aus Batterien und Dieselaggregaten gespeist wird. Die Entwicklung zur ausschließlich mit Akkumulatoren betriebenen Fähre auch auf längeren Kurzstrecken geht weiter.

Bereits 2014 wurde in Norwegen die elektrisch betriebene Fähre „Ampere“ zum „Ship of the Year“ gekürt. Oslo fördert nach dem LNG-Antrieb jetzt auch den reinen Batteriebetrieb von Schiffen. Die Norweger setzten damit auf einen fast emissionsfreien Schiffsbetrieb. Die Entwicklung in der Akkumulatoren-Technologie geht verstärkt weiter.

Scandlines wird im April seine neue Hybridfähre „Berlin“ auf der Strecke Gedser-Rostock in Betrieb nehmen. Das nächste Ziel ist, dieses Schiff im Hafen und im Küstenbereich rein elektrisch zu fahren.

LNG or battery?

Dear readers, On 8 December 2015 our friend and ship photographer Cees de Bijl passed away after severe illness. Cees photographed ferries and RoRo vessels already in the early Seventies in the Rotterdam region and along the Dutch coast. His passions were the RoRo and RoPax ships of the famous Tor Line and until he died the fleet of DFDS and DFDS Seaways. We will miss him and his excellent photographs.

The ferry and RoRo industry has experience the commissioning of LNG-powered ferries in recent years. Now electric propulsions gain increasing importance. Short distance ferries, e.g. operated on the “Vogelflugline” between Germany and Denmark, operate with hybrid propulsion powered by batteries and diesel engines today. The transformation to a pure battery propulsion ferry for short distance routes will continue.

In 2014 the Norwegian-built and electric-powered ferry “Ampere” was awarded as “Ship of the Year”. Following a significant development of LNG ferries the Norwegian state now also promotes the pure battery propulsion with the aim of an emission-free ship operation.

It can be expected that the development of the battery technology will continue and accelerate. By the end of April Scandlines will launch its new hybrid RoPax ferry “Berlin” between Gedser and Rostock. The ferry operator intends to operate the new buildings purely with electric power inn coastal waters and ports.

Market Report Competition at Gotland, Expansion of FRS, Consolidation at Corsica

RoPax: In 2016 there will be competition

Christer Berzelius: We have strengthened our timetable significantly for the coming high season with more trips and improved departure times. This is possible since we

use one extra ferry for cargo during the six peak weeks in our traffic.

RoPax: Will the existing ferries be equipped with scrubbers or do you continue sailing with MGO? Christer Berzelius: Presently we have no plans to install scrubber systems. The existing ferries will sail with MGO or equivalent.

DESTINATION GOTLAND INCREASES CAPACITIES Destination Gotland, the marketing and operation brand of Rederi Gotland A/S, has prepared itself for the season 2016. Last year the company announced the order of one new LNG RoPax vessel for the Gotland traffic. The new ferry will be constructed at Guangzhou shipyard in China. Delivery is planned for 2017. The company has signed contract with the Swedish transport ministry for the operation of the domestic service until 2027. However in 2016 there will be competition in the Gotland traffic caused by the newly founded company Gotlandsbaten. RoPax talked to Christer Berzelius, Managing Director of Destination Gotland.

RoPax: Gotland is still a growing destination. What is the main concept to attract more visitors to the island? Has the growth been achieved mainly by Swedish tourists or by foreign visitors?

Christer Berzelius: Gotland is very specific and a fantastic place to visit with nice beaches, a beautiful world heritage city in Visby, an ancient history as one of the old Hansa cities. So far the growth is coming from Sweden but we foresee more and more interest from abroad in the coming years.

Germany is a very important market for us also in the future.

Destination Gotland will continue to operate with its monohull fast ferries new operator Gotlandsbåten will operate with Incat HSC Express from Nynäshman and Västervik.

GOTLANDSBÅTEN: NEW SERVICE TO BE LAUNCHED IN 2016 In 2014 the newly founded ferry shipping company Gotlandsbåten announced to open a regular ferry service between Västervik and Visby. A contract for a Greek ferry was planned to be signed however the deal with the Greek ship owner failed due to the charter rate and the costly transit of the ferry from Greece to the Baltic Sea. 40.000 tickets were sold for the season 2015 but service was not started. Now the company is back with a new product and service for the season 2016.

The former fast ferry “P&O Express” was purchased by the company HSC Nordic.

Gotlandsbåten has chartered the Incat type for seasonal operation from end of April until October 2016. The fast ferry will operate six times per week between Västervik and Visby and also between Nynäshamn and Visby in direct competition with Destination Gotland.

Only cars, mini busses and passengers will be transported. Ralph Axelson, MD of Gotlandsbåten, said that its company will offer attractive prices and high standards of

service. The fast ferry has a capacity for 180 cars and 849 passengers and will operate with a speed between 28 and 30 knots. The sailing time between Västervik and Visby is calculated with two hours and ten minutes whilst the journey between Nynäshamn and Visby will take three hours. During the past years the catamaran was deployed on different routes for P&O and also Brittany Ferries.

It has been a while since the traditional carrier Gotlands Rederi had been exposed to competition on its routes to and from

Gotland for the last time: In the 1960s Nordﾃｶ Link operated different services between Gotland and Oskarshamn and ﾃ僕and respectively which were purchased by Gotlands Rederi in the end.

The company transported more than seven million passengers and 1.9 million vehicles last year on national and international ferry lines. FRS is active in different fields of maritime buisness for passenger transport. The company with its head office in Flensburg realised several innovative

vessel concepts during the past years. In 2014 FRS the first commercial ferry service with electric-solar propulsion in Berlin.

FRS is also one oft he leading ferry operators on the Strait of Gibraltar.

In January the company entered the US and Canadian market by acquisition of Clipper Vacations. Clipper Vacations is a recognized company in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada, offering unique regional travel experience, including high speed Victoria Clipper ferry service from Seattle to Victoria and Seattle to San Juan Island. By this acquisition Clipper will expand its Canadian service with a new FRS invested a huge amount into refurbishment and new facilities on board its RoPax vessels "Tanger Express" and "Kattegat".

Recently FRS Iberia launched a new RoPax line between Montril, Spain and Tanger Med, Morocco. The ferry “Kattegat” will serve daily departures from both ports.

Transit time is calculated with seven to eight hours. The service is a new alternative for the busy port of Algeciras. Motril has a favourable location with direct connection to the Spanish motorways. The distance to Madrid and the important industrial zones in Spain is shorter compared to Algeciras.

The port of Motril offers space and facilities for expansion. With the new line FRS is going the next step to offer long distance ferry services. After the decision of port of Algeciras to separate the unaccompanied cargo traffic from the passenger ferry terminal ferry capacities increased. All operators work together by chartering three extra RoRo vessels for the trailer cargoes. FRS

will continue operations with one RoPax between Algeciras and Tanger Med and one fast ferry to Ceuta. On the traditional fast ferry line between Tarifa and Tanger Ville FRS is deploys the “Tarifa Jet” and “Algeciras Jet”.

company Groupe Rocca – which controls the majority of cargo volumes from and to Corsica – received the mandate to take over the former SNCM group. Group Rocca will employ 873 for the operations of the ferries.

After Groupe Rocca had been awarded the two other bidders (Corsica Maritima and Daniel Berrebi) founded a new company named Corsica Linea for a freight only service. In the meantime Corsica Linea started cooperation with MCM.

Former "Napoleon Bonaparte" operates as "Rhapsody" for GNV Between Italy – Spain – Morocco.

“Nova Star” for two years. The ferry was built in Singapore in 2012 and formerly operated between Yarmouth, Canada and Portland, USA. All operators at the Strait must fullfill the regulations of the Spanish and Moroccan authorities. Operators are obliged to provide modern tonnage and a high safety level.

NEW CORSICA SERVICES SNCM, the formerly state owned ferry operator between France and Corsica, was handed over to its new Owner Groupe Rocca and has been named MCM Maritime Corse Mediterrane. The new company will continue to operate six RoPax ferries. Following a tender process the privately owned

GRANDI NAVI VELOCI The Genua-based ferry operator GNV has been purchased by Gianluigi Aponte, the founder and owner of the MSC group (Mediterranean Shipping Company).

GNV operates 10 long distance RoPax Ferries from Italy to Spain, Morrocco, Tunisia and Albania as well as to Sardinia and Sicily.

In 2015 GNV started their new operations between Bari in Italy and Durres in Albania with M/V “Rhapsody”. Also the vessels operated by SNAV are integrated in the brand and network of GNV. SNAV offers short distance ferry routes to islands in the Gulf of Naples and Aolian Islands.

TT-LINE TT Line has chosen Ecospray Technologies to supply Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems for their “Nils Holgersson”. Ecospray is market leader for scrubber systems for cruise vessels and ferries. The system required limited space only and can be installed without major conversions of the deck structure.

Ecospray enables the ship owner to meet the sulphur emission restrictions as well as reducing virtually to zero soot, PAH and un-combusted hydrocarbons in the wash water. By this HFO can be continued to be used instead of the more expensive MGO. Both TT-Line and Ecospray are strongly

CARUS CONTINUE TO GROWTH The Finnish global leading supplier of consumer facing software for the ferry industry continues to grow rapidly and has purchased Quintek Systems in England and MNC Marine in Finland. In a short while Carus has acquired two businesses whose products will be part of Carus’ systems platform giving its clients new integrated solutions that will further enhance the traveller experience providing new opportunities for the operators to raise their level of service. By purchasing the retail specialist Quintek Systems Carus establishes itself in the United Kingdom with two offices, in London and Leeds, and opens a new

business unit Carus Retail. Quintek System’s solution for restaurants, shops and bars has already been integrated into Carus’ systems platform. Carus has also purchased MNC Marine. This company is based in Mariehamn, Finland and specialised in communications and infotainment solutions at sea. MNCs services and products will be integrated into Carus’ systems platform to create new and enhanced services on board that have previously been broadly unavailable to the ferry industry.

FJORD LINE: NEW OWNERSHIP STRUCTURE In November 2015 the Norwegian company Ferd AS purchased in total 40 million shares of Fjord Line for a total price of 200 million Norwegian Kroner. Ferd is an investment company owned by Johan H. Andresen and his family, committed to valuecreating ownership of businesses and investments in financial assets. Ferd has a solid financial position and great flexibility in regards to its investment horizon.

Ferds' offer was based on their underlying belief in the industry in general and especially in Fjord Line. The company operates a new and modern fleet and has achieved an impressive growth so far in 2015. The

Laut Terberg sind diese mit einer Lithiumionenbatterie ausgestatteten Zugmaschinen nur für den reinen Terminalbetreib geeignet.

The vessels are almost identical and both equipped with single fuel LNG engines generating limited pollutant emissions. The vessels have been honoured with several awards for its environmentally friendly profile and modern design.

The day ferry “Oslofjord” (former “Bergensfjord“) was subject to a substantial conversion at the yard STX Rauma in Finland in 2014. M/V “Oslofjord” is tailored for the route Sandefjord-Strömstad and was put into operation as the company's first vessel on the route in June 2014.

2015 Fjord Line registered a record of transported passengers, cars and other vehicles.

Compared with 2014 over 32 percent more passengers (1.15 million) were transported.

However the financial results are difficult with a result of minus 620.000 Euro reported in September 2015 caused by the hard competition with Color Line between Sweden and Norway.

Balearia is prepared and already obtained a licence from the U.S authorities to operate to Cuba. The dynamic ferry operator will invest also in an own terminal at island of Cuba. So far the final consent from the Cuban side has not been confirmed.

Another project to enter the LNG propulsion market is the rebuilding projects of three highspeed ferries. One contract with Rolls-Royce was signed in June for the design for HSC Ramon Lull, HSC Jaume II and HSC Jaume III – which currently run on diesel. Balearia will be prepared for new emission regulations, which could also come into the Mediterranean area and to have flexibility in its fleet to operate these vessels also in other areas where for example sulphur regulations existing today. Since 2012 the Spanish company operates also one fast ferry between Fort Lauderdale, USA and Freeport, Bahamas. Entering the US market is one important step in the strategy of the company.

Im Gespräch mit RoPax äußerte sich Christoph Knobloch, Chef von DFDS Seaways in Deutschland, zur Marktentwicklung. Laut Knobloch hat sich der positive Buchungstrend aus dem Vorjahr auch in 2015 fortgesetzt. Nach einem überaus starken 2014 übertrafen die Zahlen in 2015 erneut das Vorjahr. Insbesondere die Route Amsterdam-Newcastle unterstreicht, dass Großbritannien – speziell Schottland – weiter im Focus der Urlauber liegt. Sehr positiv habe man zur Kenntnis genommen, dass sowohl Nordengland als auch Wales durch eine Werbeoffensive die Nachfrage aus Deutschland ankurbeln. Das Ausbleiben eines konsequenten Markenauftritts der drei baltischen Staaten unter einer Dachmarke „Baltikum“ habe sich hingegen auch im abgelaufenen Jahr deutlich auf die touristische Nachfrage zwischen Kiel und Klaipeda ausgewirkt, so Knobloch.

Nachdem DFDS seit Jahren durchaus erfolgreich Rundreisepakete in Nordengland, Schottland, Norwegen sowie im Baltikum anbietet, wird ab 2016 erstmals eine Rundreise durch Wales das Angebot abrunden.

Darüber hinaus werde das Angebotsspektrum um weitere Kurzreisen nach Schottland, Südengland sowie ins Baltikum ergänzt.

Generell werden bei DFDS zwei Themen das Jahr 2016 dominieren: Zum einen feiert die dänische Reederei im Dezember ihr 150-jähriges Bestehen, zum anderen verschmelzen die beiden Marken DFDS Seaways und DFDS Logistics mit der einstigen Dachmarke zu einer klaren Kernmarke für das Passagier-, Fracht- und Logistikgeschäft: DFDS.

WYKER DAMPFSCHIFFSREEDEREI BESTELLT NEUBAU Im Oktober 2015 haben die Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei und die Rostocker Neptunwerft einen Vertrag zum Bau einer weiteren Doppelendfähre für die Föhr-Amrum-Linie (FAL) unterzeichnet. Das neue Schiff wird ein modifizierter Nachbau der 2011 von Neptun abgelieferten „Schleswig-

Holstein“ sein. „Die Neptunwerft konnte sich im intensiven Wettbewerb gegen andere deutsche und europäische Werften durchsetzen und legte ein attraktives Angebot vor“, sagte Axel Meynköhn, Geschäftsführer der Reederei, am Rande der Unterzeichnung. Die Ablieferung des Neubaus ist für Februar 2018 vereinbart. Das neue Schiff soll die 1992 gebaute „Rungholt“

ersetzen. Mit 75,88 Metern Länge und 16,40 Metern Breite wird der Neubau die gleichen Abmessungen wie die „Schleswig-Holstein“ haben. Auch die Kapazität für maximal 1.200 Personen ist identisch. „Etwas anders geschnitten ist hingegen das Fahrzeugdeck“, erläuterte Meynköhn: So wird der Neubau als erstes Schiff der Reederei über vier Spuren für Lkw verfügen.

Die Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei entspricht damit zukünftig noch besser der Nachfrage in der Inselversorgung und kann Abfahrten mit hoher Lkw-Frequenz – beispielsweise frühmorgens ab Dagebüll zu den Inseln – optimal bedienen.

LNG power station in Hamburg Since 2015 Becker Marine Systems has offered external power supply for cruise vessels in the Port of Hamburg with its LNG barge “Hummel”. The company signed a contract with Aida Cruises to

supply energy whilst vessels are alongside. The concept leads to emission reduction in city areas. The cruise vessels will receive the power for their hotel load from the barge. The system will be offered by Becker Marine also at other ports for cruise vessels and ferries.

Port of Kiel to handle cargo with “green machines” The Port of Kiel has tested new electric tug masters for trailer handling and also the new special electric forklifts for eight tons. The port looks forward to offer “green handling” solutions without emissions. The new forklift generation form Still and Linde offer a powerful concept. The Still forklift has a somewhat better overview for the driver caused by its compact design. The demand for the future is to operate for one shift with one electric load of batteries a forklift. Today batteries must be recharged or changed after four hours.

The port of Kiel started to use some electric cars and also some electric forklifts for loads up to five tons. Kiel tested from an electrical terminal truck from Terberg for trailer handling which operates with a lithium ion battery JPE system.

Insgesamt wird der Neubau mit rund 350 Spurmetern für Pkw und 280 Spurmetern für Lkw ausgestattet. Dies entspricht einer Kapazitätserweiterung von 50 bzw. 80 Prozent gegenüber der „Rungholt“. Die neue Fähre wird nach den Standards der Normen für umweltfreundliches Schiffsdesign sowie umweltschonender Schiffsbetrieb konzipiert.

Die Neptunwerft wird im Frühjahr 2017 mit dem Bau beginnen, sobald die für dieses Frühjahr bereits bestellten Flusskreuzfahrtschiffe abgeliefert sind. Mit dem neuen Auftrag der Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei ist die Neptunwerft nun bereits bis weit ins Jahr 2018 hinein ausgelastet.

WDR ordered new double end ferry The German Wyker Dampfschiffsreederei has ordered its third new double-ended ferry at Neptun Shipyard which is a Meyer Werft subsidiary. The new vessel is scheduled to be delivered in February 2018. She will be a copy of the “Schleswig-Holstein” which started its service in 2012. However the new ferry will be equipped with larger cargo capacities although having the same dimensions. This is realised by a narrower staircase. The existing ferry “Runghold” (built 1992) will be replaced by the new double-ender.

Christoph Knoblich, MD of DFDS Seaways in Germany, points out that the number of bookings by German customers increased on the line between Amsterdam and Newcastle. In the last three years DFDS recorded a strong growth for this line. On the other hand also the bookings between Kiel and Klaipeda grow on a good level. In the end of 2016 DFDS will celebrate its 150 anniversary. The company is looking forward to get younger used cruise ferries as replacement tonnage for its present vessels at their Amsterdam line but also for their main passenger route between Copenhagen and Oslo.

Besonders attraktive Kreuzfahrtterminals liegen in der Nähe zu Stadtzentren und werden als Reiseziel gerne von Kreuzfahrtschiffen angelaufen. Häufig kommt es in der Sommersaison gleichzeitig zu mehreren Kreuzfahrtanläufen an einem Tag mit einer durchschnittlichen Liegezeit von neun Stunden. Für die Bewohner bringen die weißen Ozeanriesen die schädlichen Abgase aus Schwefel, Rußpartikeln, Stickoxiden und Kohlendioxid direkt in die Stadt – konzentriert über mehrere Wochen im Jahr.

Im Vergleich mit MDO kann die Stromerzeugung durch gasbetriebene Motoren die Emissionen von Stickoxiden um 80 Prozent und von Kohlendioxid 25 Prozent reduzieren. Zudem stoßen gasbetriebene Motoren keine Schwefeloxide und Rußpartikel aus. Die LNG-Hybrid-Barge ist das erste schwimmende Flüssiggas-Kraftwerk.

Hier ein kurzer zeitlicher Abriss der bisherigen "Erfolgsgeschichte" des Hauptstadtflughafens auf der Ostsee.

Neubauten eingesetzt werden. Nicht ausgeschlossen ist auch eine Nutzung durch andere Schiffe, da mittelfristig kein Rückbau vorgesehen ist und nur dieser Anleger von der Reservefähre KRONPRINS FREDERIK benutzt werden kann.

Als letzte Information von Scandlines konnte im Januar 2016 in Erfahrung gebracht werden, dass die BERLIN kurz vor der Indienststellung steht. Die soeben ab-

geschlossene Leerzustandsbesichtigung ergab, dass das Eigengewicht der Fähre durch die Umbauten um ca. 1100 Tonnen reduziert werden konnte. Damit befinden sich der Tiefgang, die Ladekapazität und die Stabilität der BERLIN wieder auf dem ursprünglich 2010 geplanten und mit den P+S-Werften vereinbarten Niveau. Im Moment durchläuft das Schiff ein umfassendes und zeitaufwendiges Testprogramm, welches bisher planmäßig verläuft.

Der Neubau wird dennoch eine Innovation sein in Hinblick auf sein Antriebsystem durch die Kombination aus Diesel-elektrischen Antrieb und einer Nutzung von Batterien im Hafenbetrieb zur Reduzierung der Emissionen.

Eine umfassende Schiffsbeschreibung wird es in der nächsten RoPax Ausgabe 2017 geben und auch die Ergebnisse des ersten Betriebsjahres.

Während in Gedser die neu errichteten Hafenanlagen bereits von den noch jetzt eingesetzten Fähren KRONSPRINS FREDERIK und PRINS JOACHIM genutzt werden, wurde der in Rostock neu geschaffene Anleger am Liegeplatz 54 noch von keiner Fähre angelaufen. Vor der Indienststellung der neuen Fähren auf der Linie Rostock – Gedser sind Testfahrten erforderlich, die ca. 5-7 Tage dauern werden und u.a. Funktionserprobungen und Probebelastungen der Fährbrücken beinhalten. Weiterhin müssen die Mitarbeiter des Hafens Rostock für den Betrieb der Anlagen geschult werden. Diese Anpassungsfahrten sind nach Aussage des Hafens Rostock ebenfalls für März 2016 geplant. In diesem Zusammenhang müssen außerdem die Vorstellflächen für diesen Anleger neu markiert werden, da diese derzeit von TT-Line für die Abfertigung am Liegeplatz 53 genutzt werden. Der bisher von Scandlines genutzte Liegeplatz 67 bleibt weiterhin in Betrieb bis beide

Interview with Paulsgaard Jensen, CEO of Scandlines is looking forward to start hybrid ferry operation also between Gedser and Rostock

RoPax: The first new ferry for Rostock – Gedser will start it´s service in April 2016.

How is the planning for the next month and the fleet change?

Paulsgaard Jensen: The vessel is currently undergoing a comprehensive and timeconsuming test programme. The test programme is proceeding as planned, and Scandlines expects M/V Berlin to go into operation before Easter.

RoPax: Dear Mr Poulsgaard Jensen, could you describe the development of Scandlines in the last year and the results?

Paulsgaard Jensen: 2015 has been an eventful year for Scandlines with many challenges. In terms of the operation our biggest challenge has undoubtedly been to go without M/V Prinsesse Benedikte for four months, which meant that we were 25 percent short on our capacity on the ferry route Puttgarden-Rødby at the beginning of the high season 2015. Nevertheless, we managed to strengthen our position on the Germany-Denmark routes and increase the number of transported cars. Especially the route Rostock-Gedser has experienced growth with an increase of transported cars of almost 10 percent and an increase of transported freight units of more than 6 percent. This promises well for the forthcoming introduction of the two new ferries. Our annual report will be published in May. RoPax 6 / 03.2016

candlines is operating the two busiest ferry lines in the Baltic Sea between Germany and Denmark. In the last two years the short distance ferry operator converted its four double end ferries at the line Poulsgaard Jensen Puttgarden – Rödby to a hybrid propulsion system. This year Scandlines will put its two new hybrid ferries for Rostock – Gedser into service after a long construction phase. In 2015 Gedser – Rostock line recorded a good increase of passengers and freight units.

The next step will be the switch from pure hybrid ferries to plug-in hybrid ferries between Rostock-Gedser. The ferries will be charged in the two ports to meet the first and last part of the route exclusively battery powered. Scandlines calls this "Zero emissions in coastal areas". The shipping company is planning for this the establishment of an adequate electronic infrastructure. Scandlines is still in a lawsuit with European Court of Justice in the case European Commission issued a weak performance and insufficient approving the financing model for the Fehmarn tunnel project. Scandlines plans for the time after opening of the tunnel to continue its ferry service in a fair competition.

Paulsgaard Jensen: In terms of volume, Scandlines has had a very good 2015.

Especially the number of tickets including a ticket to the Öresund Bridge have increased significantly. Due to the high flexibility and the favorable price-performance ratio, we were able to expand our market share of Swedish customers.

Deadweight issues & delays caused Scandlines to cancel the order for the sisterships Berlin & Copenhagen in November 2012.

Scandlines then bought the ships in 2013 at a reduced price after the shipyard went in to liquidation and had them both towed to Blohm+Voss in Hamburg and then to Fayard for reconstruction to address the deadweight issues. The debut of the Berlin was delayed again from Q4 2015 to Q1 2016 due to complications with equipment.

Grimaldi Group – strong growth by over 30 new buildings and new lines Naples-based Grimaldi Group is continuing its growth. The company is leading the short sea RoRo and RoPax business in Europe with its brands Finnlines in the Baltic and North Sea, Minoan Lines in the Adriatic Sea and Greece and as Grimaldi Lines between in North Europe and the whole Mediterranean.

RoPax: Dr. Grimaldi, last year you told us, you were encouraged but not satisfied about the result of Finnlines. Last month it was announced that Finnlines is back in the champions-league of the Grimaldi Group!

Emanuele Grimaldi: Last year and the year before were even better. Finnlines’s superior achievements were awarded by the publication Marine Money International in their 2014 Annual Rankings of Publicly

the best in Europe. With regards to “Total Return to Shareholders”, which may be considered to be the most important category of all in the ranking, Finnlines clearly outperforms all other companies and reaches, with 113.3%, the first place.

RoPax was in Naples and spoke to Dr. Emanuele Grimaldi about the impressive development of the Italian family driven company.

RoPax : You came back as president of Finnlines in the end of 2013. Which main topics did you start to turn Finnlines on a higher profitability?

Emanuele Grimaldi: We have reduced the expenses. We have increased the efficiency and productivity of our staff, which is very devoted staff with a positive attitude We have gained market shares on many trades. I think Finnlines is a total different company compared to three years ago.

We have increased the equity ratio markedly; the market is demanding 25% while we have over 40%!

RoPax: The first year with sulphur regulations in the North and Baltic Sea has expired. You have invested in different types of scrubbers. Could you describe your results and experience?

Emanuele Grimaldi: Before it started we made a very strong study on scrubber technology and performance. We work together with the three biggest producers in the world.

We use Wärtsilä scrubbers for Wärtsilä engines, Aalborg scrubbers for MAN engines and for the biggest passenger ships we chose Ecospray, a solution which is based on an Italian patent but bought by Carnival group!

Our “Star” vessels got this system.

I think the results are very good for all three manufacturers. For the passengers ships it was more difficult because we speak about bigger and powerful engines. The “Star” vessels are still the biggest RoPax vessels in the world, with four engines of over 10.000 KW each. This was a huge challenge for our technical department. There is the necessity at these vessels not to loose deadweight. We could not enlarge the funnels. We used a very special technology, which is more expensive than the other solutions but which abates even more more the soot, Sox and PM (particle matters). We are very successful with the retrofit of our vessels.

RoPax: If we look at the Baltic Sea map you have a huge presence but in one corridor you are missing: between Poland and Sweden. You trial to take over Polferries was not successful. Do you have this increasing market still on your target list?

Emanuele Grimaldi: We have tried. The corridor to Poland is a little bit competing with Rostock. But I am in Travemünde. It would make sense but we have a clear position. We do not want overcrowded business. You know there are Stena, Polferries and Unity Line. These three are dividing the business. There is also the start up of TT Line. We have it on our desk and for Polferries we were in a pole position but they decided not to sell. They decided to merge Unity and Polferries in one company and it will bring more space for a new operator.

But this merger was stopped by the European Union as well. We have to see. I am interested in general. There is a continuous growth of yearly 10% in the market between Poland and Sweden. The growth in Europe has never been two digits in the last years but in this area there is a double-digit growth.

But at that time my main concern was to transform Finnlines in a very capable shipping company with the vision of Grimaldi!

RoPax: Does the low fuel price also push the result on a better level?

Emanuele Grimaldi: No, we give the price advantage back to our clients. This is the

Grimaldi started in 2015 its operation from Venice with the two sister vessels Eurocargo Triest and Eurocargo Patrasso. RoRo vessels of Eurocargo Genova Class are very successful. Grimladi operates 10 of these RoRo carriers in the Med.

RoPax: Between Finland and Sweden some of your competitors lost cargo volumes in 2015.

Emanuele Grimaldi: We are sailing with stable volumes and have only reduced on bunker surcharge. Considering the current situation of recession we are stable.

RoPax: On the one side you have reduced costs and made a fitness program for Finnlines but on the other hand you increase the market shares: Emanuele Grimaldi: Yes, last year we bought three ships: two from Birka and one from Cobelfret. It was the former “Longstone” and is sailing now under the name “Finnmerchant”. It is operating today between Rostock and Hanko. These three ships will be equipped with scrubbers.

Furthermore the three Finnlink`s vessels which operate between Kappelskär and Naantali will also be equipped with scrubbers.

RoPax: Due to the sanctions against Russia DFDS down sized its fleet for the connection between Kiel and Ust Luga and signed a charter contract with your Trans Russia service. How are the relationship and the cooperation in this case?

Emanuele Grimaldi: DFDS bought a slot on our ship and they make the sales and port operations in Kiel.

We have renewed loan conditions to reduce financial costs and we have a good management team by our CFO Tom Pippingsköld and Tapani Voionmaa who is the company’s general counsel and secretary to the board of directors.

We have also a very good team for the project of scrubber installation. Today our fleet is well maintained for the new regulations for the SECA zone. The result in 2015 is better than in 2014 and I can tell you the result in 2016 will be even better than in 2015 for Finnlines !

Eurocargo Alexandria in Genua

Finnlines is a very specialized company as part of the Grimaldi Group, which has the best purchasing in the world for bunker, lubricants, for insurance and for technical parts.

Moreover, we are combining Finnlines services with those of the other companies of the Group. We have lines to South America, Africa or North America into the United States. We have started to transport cargo from St Petersburg to New York.

There is more and more cooperation in the Group to boost business for the deep-sea transportation in connection with short sea business. Finnlines is now a star in the Group and plays in the champion’s league of Grimaldi!

RoPax: How you manage the coordination in the Group to attract your clients with the complete offer?

Emanuele Grimaldi: We have people, which are responsible to coordinate the cooperation in the Group.

In the short sea business my son Guido Grimaldi is responsible, he is working together with Mr Staffan Herlin from Finnlines and Lucas Sigalas from Minoan lines.

For the automotive sector Mr Costantino Baldissara is the manager responsible. The huge network and different cargo products are the strength of our group.

RoPax: If we look on the Adriatic services of Grimaldi and Minoan lines you are very active. You started a new line from the new port of Venice Marghera via Ravenna and via Bari to Patras under the Grimaldi brand.

You purchased for this new line two RoRo vessels from Acciona. Could you tell us the first results and performance of the new line?

Star Class RoPax vessel got scrubber technology from EcoSpray.

Emanuele Grimaldi: We are very successful with these two vessels, which were laid up for over five years by Acciona. On the Italy-Greece service we earn money with them. We invested over three million to upgrade these vessels and put them into top condition. This was done with own funds and without any EU assistance.

RoPax: How is your opinion about the new port in Venice?

Emanuele Grimaldi: It is a new port with very good connection to the motorway network and also railway connection for combined traffic is available. The port accommodates several trains for different directions to the industrial centres in Europe.

RoPax: Do you have also an interest to operate to Albania?

Emanuele Grimaldi: No, there are already two big companies like Adria Ferries and GNV. They make a good job there and the market is over crowded.

In the Adriatic we are operating also two former Finnlines vessels between Brindisi, Igoumenitsa and Patras.

RoPax: How is your market share in the Adriatic between Greece and Italy?

Emanuele Grimaldi: We have today 60% market share and the other two operators have 40% together. We are talking about a market of 300.000-350.000 cargo units per year. For this year I expect an increase by 10% because last year we had the depression due to the threat of Greece leaving the Euro zone. I think our result will be very good by 12% net profit, € 20 million bottom lines if you consider that we are working in Greece with all these difficulties.

RoPax: In Greece you are also operating as Minoan Lines between Piraeus and Heraklion and you have a stake in Hellenic Seaways.

Emanuele Grimaldi: Between Piraeus and Heraklion we have more than 60% market share too. We are the main shareholders in Hellenic Seaways with 35% shares. In this respect I am interested to buy more shares in Hellenic Seaways as I am not a seller but rather a buyer in order to develop the business.

RoPax: 13 years ago you started one of the first RoPax lines between Italy and Spain.

Today you are operating different lines between Italy and the main ports Barcelona and Valencia. Two years ago you have opened your own terminal in Barcelona.

Emanuele Grimaldi: When I started between Italy and Spain there was no RoPax traffic existing. Today we operate a huge part of our business between these two countries. We are satisfied with our new terminal in Barcelona. From our terminal GNV is also operating its line to Genoa.

We operate a terminal in Valencia too where we are working on a bigger concession for cargo transports. Today we are operating six RoRo vessels from Valencia to RoPax 6 / 03.2016

Genoa, Livorno, Salerno and Cagliari. We got the loads from road to sea. We are talking direct to the manufacturer and the factories.

RoPax: If we look to new markets. Are you focusing business between USA and Cuba?

Emanuele Grimaldi: We are looking into this upcoming market. We got the license already from the US authorities. We have to understand when the real market restrictions will be lifted to really start. We are in discussions and building up our network.

If we look at new markets we have started in the last months various new lines in the Med to and from Sardinia island: Genoa – Cagliari, Livorno – Cagliari, Salerno – Cagliari, Palermo – Cagliari and in combination with

RoPax: You are sailing in competition with Moby and Tirrenia.

Emanuele Grimaldi: In the past Moby together with Tirrenia had 90% of the market share on the trades between Sardinia and Continental Italy. Markets do not like such a situation that’s why we came into this traffic to Sardinia to get a 50% market share in the next two years. We are sailing there under the brand of Grimaldi Lines. The market has a volume of four million passengers and 400,000 cargo units per year.

RoPax: How many vessels do you operate today?

Emanuele Grimaldi: We own 110 ships and we have now about 15 under construction and we have 10 chartered.

Minoan Lines has over 60% market share in the Adria.

RoPax: In December 2015 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) awarded the Grimaldi Group as first company for supply chain and logistics. Your company has a long relationship with Fiat. You have ordered 10 new PCTCs (Pure Car Transport Carrier) plus an option another 9?

Emanuele Grimaldi: Indeed these new vessels will replace 10 chartered and the option will grow the fleet. FCA is building cars in Italy for the United States and we are transporting them to North and also South America.

RoPax: The first of five new ConRo vessels of your company ACL (Atlantic Container Line) the “Atlantic Star” was put into service last autumn. How will the new vessel get more cargo from the market between Europe and the USA? Emanuele Grimaldi: With all five new (G4) ships we will have an 80% more capacity!

The new vessels have the same length but are slightly wider and higher compared to the old vessels built in the eighties.

The new ships are the biggest ConRo vessels in the world. If you consider 15 years ago the ACL vessels had 10% of the transatlantic trade market. In the last years this share has decreased to 5%. With the new vessels we will get back to our 10% market share. The growth of the next years will come to us.

The LNG Hybrid Barge generates clean energy for cruise ships at port. Compared to using on-board diesel engines to produce energy, the barge’s power supply dramatically reduces harmful particulate emissions.

Another LNG-powered concept has been developed in order to supply clean energy for other ships at port such as container, bulker or tanker vessels.

Reederei Norden Frisia – investiert weiter in die Zukunft Die Aktiengesellschaft Reederei Norden-Frisia hat in den letzten Jahren Ihre Flotte weiter ausgebaut. Die Reederei betreibt hauptsächlich die Linienschifffahrt für den allgemeinen Personen- und Güterverkehr zu den Nordseeinseln Norderney und Juist. eit 2009 beschäftigt sich die AG Frisia mit der Tochtergesellschaft Frisia Offshore auch mit der Beförderung von technischen Personal zu den Windparks auf der Nordsee. Außerdem ist die Reedereigruppe mit 34,9% an der Nordfriesischen Rederei Wyker Dampfschiffahrtsreederei beteiligt.

Im Jahr 2015 wurde der zweite Doppelendfährschiffsneubau "Frisia III" in Dienst gestellt. Die Reederei investierte zusätzlich in ein neues Abfertigungsgebäude im zentralen Festlandhafen Norddeich. Auf der Insel Norddeich entsteht auch ein neues Terminalgebäude, welches im Sommer 2017 eröffnet werden soll. Das Unternehmen reagiert mit seinen Investitionen auf die gestiegenen Passagierzahlen. Der Trend für weitere Zuwächse im Verkehr von und zu den Inseln wird sich aufgrund der Reisezielverlagerung in sichere Regionen weiter fortsetzen. RoPax sprach mit dem Reedereivorstand Carl-Ulfert Stegmann über die Entwicklung der Unternehmensgruppe.

RoPax: Die Reedereigruppe Frisia hat sich in den letzten Jahren gut entwickelt. Sie haben den Offshore Bereich weiter ausgebaut, die Flotte weiter vergrößert und Investitionen auch im Terminalbereich getätigt. Was sind die maßgeblichen Einflussfaktoren für diese Entwicklung?

C-U Stegmann: In der Tat hat unsere Reederei im Laufe der letzten Jahre einige für unsere Maßstäbe gewichtige Investitionen vorgenommen. Für alle Maßnahmen gelten im wesentlichen zwei Aspekte: die

Mit dem Investment in Abfertigungskapazitäten in Norddeich und aktuell auf Norderney versuchen wir dem gestiegenen Bedarf an Servicequalität der Fahrgäste Rechnung zu tragen. Darüber hinaus sollen auch mit diesen Neubauten die logistischen Abläufe für uns und die Fahrgäste optimiert werden.

Unsere Tochter Frisia-Offshore ist seit Beginn der Errichtung von OffshoreWindparks an der deutschen Küste mit dabei. Im wesentlichen bietet das Unternehmen den Personentransfer bzw. von Kleinteilen auf See aber auch Beratungsdienstleistungen an. Mit der Eigenentwicklung des CTV-Typs „Wind Force“ ist uns ein seegängiges und für den Personenversatz optimiertes Produkt gelungen, dass seit Indienststellung des ersten Windparks „Alpha Ventus“ erfolgreich im Einsatz ist. Die gute Akzeptanz bei den Kunden hat dazu geführt, dass wir voraussichtlich im April mit der „Wind Force III“ bereits die dritte Einheit dieses Typs in Dienst stellen können.

RoPax: Wie sind Ihre Prognosen, wie werden aus Ihrer Sicht die Fahrgastzahlen sich entwickeln?

C-U Stegmann: Die Vorhersage der Entwicklung unserer Fahrgastzahlen ist erfahrungsgemäß sehr schwierig, weil es sehr viele Einflussfaktoren gibt: geopolitische Lage, wirtschaftliche Situation der privaten Haushalte, Ferienzeiten, Attraktivität der RoPax 6 / 03.2016

C-U Stegmann: Mit der „Frisia III“ haben wir nach rund 10 Jahren wieder einen Neubau in Dienst gestellt. Im Moment sieht es so aus, dass wir mit dieser neuen, erweiterten Kapazität erst einmal wieder ein paar Jahre gut arbeiten können, bevor wir weiter aktiv werden. Zur Zeit überlegen wir noch ob wir unsere ältestes Fährschiff, die 1965 auf der Meyer-Werft erbaute MS „Frisia V“ außer Dienst stellen bzw. abgeben wollen.

Inseln und natürlich nicht zuletzt das Wetter. Schon seit einigen Jahren bewegen wir uns auf einem sehr hohen Niveau, dass zum Teil schon durch die touristischen Kapazitäten auf den Inseln begrenzt wird.

Die Attraktivität der Inseln als qualitativ hochwertiges und angesichts der aktuellen Entwicklung auf den Reisemärkten, ein sicheres Ausflugs- und Urlaubsziel, welches ungebrochen hoch im Kurs steht.

RoPax: Vielen Dank für das Gespräch.

The company’s main business area is the transport of passengers and freight to and from the North Sea islands of Norderney and Juist. In 2015 the new double-end-ferry “Frisia III” was commissioned offering increased capacities. RoPax: Werden Sie ältere Fähren aus der Flotte ausphasen und gibt es weitere Pläne für eine Erneuerung?

RoPax: Ihr Unternehmen setzt nach wie vor auf den konventionellen Antrieb mit Diesel Maschinen, wie sehen Sie die Entwicklung für zukünftige Antriebe? Ist LNG die Lösung oder haben Sie auch die Alternative des elektrischen Antriebes auch in Form von Hybrid untersucht? In Norwegen geht der Trend bekanntlich schon wieder weg vom LNG und über zur Lithium Ionen Batterietechnik!

C-U Stegmann: Wir haben uns die Entscheidung beim Neubau unserer „Frisia III“ wieder einen konventionellen Dieselantrieb einzusetzen nicht leicht gemacht.

Letztendlich haben die unserer Meinung noch nicht ausgereifte Motorentechnik für diese Schiffsgröße sowie erhebliche Einbußen bei der Zuladung bzw. zusätzliches Gewicht infolge der durch den Gasantrieb erforderlichen Tanks davon abgehalten.

Auch ergeben sich bei der kurzen Fahrts-

trecke und durch den konsequenten Einsatz effizienter Abgasnachbehandlung keine wirklichen Vorteile von LNG in unserem Einsatzgebiet, sondern durch den Einsatz von fast schwefelfreien Schiffsdiesel annähernd gleiche Emissionswerte. Natürlich verfolgen wir die weitere Entwicklung hinsichtlich der Verwendung anderer Treibstoffarten wie z.B. im Bereich Strom/ Batterie oder Brennstoffzellen genau, sehen uns aber zur Zeit mit zwei Schiffen unter dem „Blauen Engel“ gut aufgestellt.

Helgoland – Kreuzfahrtfeeling auf Fährroute

ie Reederei Cassen Eils ein Tochterunternehmen der in Emden beheimateten AG EMS, hat im Dezember 2015 ihr neues Fährschiff für den Helgolanddienst in Betrieb genommen. Die neue MS „Helgoland“ zeichnet sich durch ihr innovatives Antriebskonzept mit einer Duefuel Maschinenanlage, die überwiegend mit LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) betrieben wird, aus. Das Schiff wurde auf der Fassmer Werft in Berne gebaut und durch Chrisata Eils, ehemalige Geschäftsführerin und Witwe des Reedereigründers getauft.

„Ostfriesland“ mit dem neuen Antriebssystem umgebaut. Dr. Brons Vorstand der AG EMS hat die Möglichkeiten der finanziellen Förderung für die neuen Antriebssysteme durch die EU genutzt und konnte seine Konzepte mit seinem Team bei allen Beteiligten Entscheidern erfolgreich positionieren. Somit erhielt das neue Helgolandschiff eine EU-Förderung für sein innovatives LNG-Antriebssystem in Höhe von 4,175 Millionen Euro. Der Neubau ist eine Pilotentwicklung eines LNG-Antriebssystems für den kombinierten Personen- und Frachtverkehr zur ganzjährigen Beförderung zu einer

Im Jahr 2013 gewann die Reederei Cassen Eils den Verkehrsauftrag von der Gemeinde Pinneberg, zu der die Insel Helgoland gehört, für den ganzjährigen Betrieb des Fährdienstes zwischen Cuxhaven und der Insel Helgoland.

Die neue „Helgoland“ ist deutschlandweit der erste Schiffsneubau mit LNG-Antrieb.

Aufgrund von Form und Größe des Rumpfes sowie seiner hohen Reisegeschwindigkeit von bis zu 20 Knoten, ist es ideal auf den Helgolandverkehr zugeschnitten. Es kann jahreszeitenunabhängig bei Wind und Wetter sowie Seegang eingesetzt werden. Zusätzlich erhöht sich der Passagierkomfort durch dynamische Stabilisatoren, welche das Rollverhalten bei erhöhtem Seegang deutlich reduzieren.

In der 150 jährigen Geschichte der Reedereigruppe ist der Neubau die höchste Einzelinvestition, die jemals getätigt wurde. Das Projekt wurde im Rahmen der jährlichen TEN-T-Aufforderung zur Entkarbonisierung (Ersetzung von Öl bzw.

Senkung der Umweltkosten) mithilfe externer Sachverständiger, für eine EUFinanzierung ausgewählt.

Der markante Schornsteinaufbau mit Glasverkleidung beherbergt den Aufzug und die Süllberg Lounge. Der hohe Mast dienst als Ablassventil für die Gasanlage.

Neubau mit sehr hochwertiger Ausstattung Das neue Helgolandschiff wurde für rund 31,5 Mio. Euro bei der Fassmer-Werft in Berne beauftragt. Das Schiff ist 83 m lang und 12,60 m breit und hat einen Tiefgang von 3,60 m. Der neue LNG-Antrieb verfügt über eine Leistung von 5.000 KW und bringt damit 20 Knoten Höchstgeschwindigkeit. Das Schiff hat über 1.048 Sitzplätze, die sich auf acht Salonbereiche, ein Atrium mit gläsernem Fahrstuhl über drei Decks sowie drei Oberdecksbereiche verteilen. Es können bis zu zehn Stück Zehn-Fuß-Container oder zwei Zwanzig-Fuß-Container sowie Stückfracht befördert werden. Der schiffseigene Kran kann bis zu 10 Tonnen heben. Laut dem Werftchef Harald Fassmer ist das 83 m lange Schiff ein hoch innovativer Neubau und eine großartige Referenz in Richtung Zukunft und Umweltschutz.

In den Passagierbereichen wurden sehr hochwertige Materialien verarbeitet und viele Details eingebaut die eine Verbindung zur Insel leicht herstellen.

Diese kleinen Abteile sind eine Idee eines Helgoländer Hoteliers, der ganzjährig seine Hotels an gut zahlende Gäste vermarktet.

Damit seine Gäste eine ungestörte Anreise haben, soll die Möglichkeit bestehen sich in ein Abteil zurückziehen zu können.

Wer mag bucht neben seiner Überfahrt gleich sein persönliches gastronomisches Erlebnis dazu: Auf Deck 3 gibt es dafür aus dem Bordrestaurant für jeden Hunger das richtige Frühstück oder auch Spezialitäten aus dem Meer. Wer sich kulinarisch verwöhnen lassen möchte, bucht im bordeigenen Feinschmecker-Restaurant „Knieper“ und genießt hier den Rundumservice und seinen persönlichen reservierten Platz.

Besonders ist auf Deck 3 die „Sansibar“ mit Aussicht auf das Achterdeck; hier werden Kaffeespezialitäten oder auch leckere Cocktails serviert.

die Skybar „Süllberg“. Diese kann von Gruppen bis zu 20 Personen separat gebucht werden. Auf allen Decks des Schiffes trifft der Gast immer wieder auf die Werke unterschiedlicher Künstler. Die Gemälde, Fotografien und weitere Ausstellungsstücke nehmen stets einen engen Bezug zur Insel Helgoland und der Schiffsreise dorthin und laden dazu ein, sich schon an Bord auf den Inselaufenthalt einzustimmen.

Maschinenanlage mit neusten Antriebsaggregaten Das Herzstück des neuen Helgolandschiffes befindet sich auf Deck 1, denn hier ist die moderne Technik untergebracht.

Die beiden Hauptmaschinen vom Typ Wärtsila 9L20DF (Duel Fuel) mit jeweils 1.665 KW Leistung. Die Hauptmaschinen können mit Gas oder auch Diesel betrieben werden. Die drei Hilfsdiesel vom Typ MAN Natural Gas Engine E3262 LE 222 mit jeweils 500 kW laufen ausschließlich mit Gas. Die Antriebsanlage ist mit Redundanzen in allen Bereichen ausgestattet.

Zusätzlich sitzen auf beiden Antriebswellen Generatoren für eine zusätzliche Energieerzeugung. Das Flüssiggas wird in einem mittschiffs angeordneten Gasttank gespeichert, der regelmäßig von Tank LKWs in Cuxhaven befüllt wird.

Ideales Schiff für Fracht und Passgiere Kapitän Ewald Bebber ist sehr zufrieden mit seinem neuen Schiff, an dem er auch seine Wünsche einbringen konnte. Bezeichnend für einen Schiffsneubau im 21 Jahrhundert sind die offenen Brückennocken von denen Herr Bebber seine An- und Ablegemanöver fahren muss. Er hat großen Wert darauf gelegt, dass die Nocken offen bleiben und nicht wie bei vielen Fähren heutzutage zugebaut sind. Laut Kapitän Bebber braucht man in der Helgolandfahrt noch mehr die Verbindung zur Natur und das Gefühl wie der Wind wirklich weht.

Neu für die Reederei Cassen Eils ist auch die Beförderung von Fracht und Passagieren auf einem Schiff. „Bisher haben wir lediglich kleinere Stückfrachten und die Post befördern können“, erläutert Peter Eesmann, Geschäftsführer der Reederei Cassen Eils. „Zukünftig haben wir nun auch die Möglichkeit bis zu zehn Stück ZehnFuß-Container zu befördern, die mit dem einem eigenen Schiffskran bewegt werden“, sagt Eesmann.

In der kommenden Saison wird es spannend zu sehen, wie das neue Schiff von den Gästen angenommen wird. Für Reisende ab Cuxhaven bietet das Schiff viel mehr als die bisherigen in der Helgolandfahrt eingesetzten Fähren und Schiffe.

Die neue "Helgoland" wird in der Hauptsaison jeden Sonntag um 06:45 Uhr ab Hamburg Landungsbrücken starten und mit kurzem Zwischenstopp in Cuxhaven um 12:15 Uhr im Helgoländer Hafen festmachen.

REMARKS Rolled out 8/5/15. Launched 12/5/15. The €31.5 million Helgoland sailed from Cuxhaven on 11th December in Force 9 winds and 4m waves on its maiden voyage to Helgoland in the German Bight. The delivered ship is different from that commissioned in 2013. At 83m the ship is 4m longer and 20cms wider at 12.6m and the draught has also increased to 3.6m.

The Helgoland will consume up to a million litres of fuel per year less than a conventional diesel ferry – meaning a saving of approx. 570 tons of CO2 emissions, 15 tons of SOx and approx. 32 tons of NOx as well as no fine particle emissions. The propulsion system and the hull design will enable the ferry to sail at a cruising speed of 20kt. The fin stabiliser aboard will ensure passenger comfort. Fassmer designed and built the MS Helgoland, Germany’s first passenger ferry with a dual-fuel propulsion system. The main mast is the LNG vent.

Wärtsilä has supplied its proprietary LNGPac fuel bunkering and supply system with associated safety and automation systems, and its proprietary Cold Recovery system for the vessel's air conditioning systems. The ferry will feature eight lounge areas, a children's playground and a three-deck light-filled atrium with a glass elevator connecting all the five decks. Deck 1 will house the vessel's machinery, Deck 2 will offer a lobster shack, a bistro, a spacious living room and a smaller area for guests, Deck 3 will feature a common restaurant, a gourmet restaurant, and a bar, and Deck 4 will offer a spacious open sun deck featuring a gastronomic outpost. Deck 5 will feature a sun deck and a Skybar named Süllberg.

The design and construction contract for the ferry was awarded to Fassmer in October 2013, the ferry's keel was laid in July 2014 at the Hullkon Shipyard in Szczecin, Poland, and its hull was transferred to the Fassmer Shipyard in Berne for outfitting in December 2014.

The vessel will be classed with GL + 100 A E RSA (50) Passenger Ship EU + MC E AUT GF notations by DNV GL. It meets the German Blue Angel (Der Blaue Engel) standards for ecofriendly ship design and will comply with the EU's new IMO regulations regarding sulphur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in the North Sea's Emissions Control Area (ECA), which came into effect in January 2015. The construction cost of the LNG-fuelled ferry is estimated to reach €30m (approximately $31.9m). The EU is providing €4.17m (approximately $4.44m) for the project under its EU TEN-T programme.

The Danish national ferry operator is well positioned for the future. The company realized a growth in 2015 and had a huge success with its new east line between port of Ballen at island Samsö to Kalundborg.

RoPax: The tender for Bornholm traffic is opened could you short describe the concept for the future? How is the solution for the direct line to Germany port of Sassnitz/Mukran? Do you need higher capacity for Bornholm traffic in the next years?

I

n 2016 the company is working at the tender for Langeland – Lolland traffic. In 2018 the tender for Bornholm will be decided by ministry for transport. The route between Sassnitz and Bornholm will be operated as planned this year and next year.

RoPax talked with the CEO of Faergen John Steen-Mikkelsen.

As to the route between Bornholm and Sassnitz we have noticed some confusion in the market based upon articles in the medias, where they have mixed up the pre-discussions on the Bornholm tender with the Sassnitz route. FÆRGEN continuous to run the service from Germany and Sassnitz to Bornholm for full, as we have done the past years. The route will in 2016 be operated between March 19th and October 29th at least on a weekly basis, and in the season between June 23rd and September 4th with departure once or twice a day.

ie im August 2015 neu gegründete Reederei ELB-Link betreibt mit zwei Doppelendfähren die Fährlinie zwischen den Häfen Brunsbüttel und Cuxhaven.

Hinter dem Unternehmen stehen die Eigentümer der Fähren aus Estland und Deutschland und die Estonische Tuule Group.

Mit täglich bis zu zwölf Abfahrten bietet das junge Unternehmen auf der zuletzt vor 15 Jahren bedienten Fährverbindung seinen Service an.. Die Überfahrt vom Anleger Steubenhöft in Cuxhaven nach Brunsbüttel dauert etwa 70 Minuten. Mit der Fährüberfahrt kann der PKW Reisende auf dem Weg gen Norden etwa 200 Kilometer Autofahrt und zwei Stunden Reisezeit sparen.

Für Speditionen und Frachtführer ist die Linie noch interessanter da nicht nur Kilometer und Zeit gespart werden, sondern auch Kosten durch weniger Mautgebühren.

Zur Zeit betreibt ELB-Link auf der Route zwei 2010 in Norwegen gebaute Doppelend-Fähren, die bislang im Inselverkehr von Estland zum Einsatz gekommen sind. Die Fähren sind jeweils knapp 89 Meter lang und für bis zu 600 Reisende ausgelegt. Auf den Autodecks können bis zu 150 Pkw oder 16 Lkw und 55 Pkw transportiert werden.

Niedersachsen hat Glück gehabt Die Niedersächsische Landesregierung hat Glück gehabt! Nach längerem Suchen nach einer Reederei tauchte die Estnische Reedereigruppe Tuule auf, um für ihre modernen Doppelendfähren ein neues Einsatzgebiet zu finden. In Estland betreibt die Reedereigruppe zur Zeit noch die Verkehre zu den Ostseeinseln Saarema und Hiuma. Bei einer Ausschreibung in 2015 hat das Unternehmen die Fortsetzung der Verkehre ab Oktober 2016 an einen Wettbewerber verloren. Da die drei Doppelendfähren mit Deutscher Hilfe finanziert wurden, gab es

Erfolgreicher Start Die ersten Wochen im August und September sowie auch im Oktober waren sehr erfolgreich. Viele Tagesgäste nutzen den Kurztrip nach Schleswig Holstein und zurück für einen Ausflug oder nur eine Minikreuzfahrt über die Elbe. Für 2016 wird eine Passagierzahl von bis zu 600.000 angestrebt. Die Preise für Tickets und auch das gastronomische Angebot an Bord sind attraktiv. Es wird spannend, wie die Linie sich bei den Frachtkunden etabliert. Die Beförderungszahlen steigen vor allem, wenn die Glückstadt – Wischhafen Fähre bei Niedrigwasser oder Eis ihren Betreib einstellen muss, geht der Verkehr mit Elb Link weiter.

Der neue Siemensfabrikstandort wird dem Unternehmen noch mehr Fracht bringen.

Es ist geplant bis zu 60 LKW Ladungen täglich nur für Siemens abzufertigen.

Außerdem stellen noch einige Frachtunternehmen ihre Verkehr auf den unbegleiteten Verkehr um. ELb- Link bietet zusammen mit der Spedition Kruse ein Servicepaket zur Beförderung von Trailern und auch Containern auf Chassis an. Auch Spezialtransporte mit Längen von bis zu 29 Metern haben die neue Route entdeckt.

Wenn der Verkehr sich weiter etabliert, ist ab 2017 mit einem dritten Schiff zu rechnen und damit eine Fahrplanverdichtung. Für 2016 sind einige Aktionen geplant, wie z.B. viele Wacken Besucher an Bord zu bekommen und auch Themenfahrten im Gastronomiebereich anzubieten.

Helgolandreisende haben die Möglichkeit ab Schleswig Holstein ein Kombiticket zu buchen, um die neue „Helgoland“ ab Cuxhaven zu nutzen.

ENGLISH SUMMARY In August 2015 Elb-Link started operations between the German ports of Brunsbüttel and Cuxhaven with two double-ended ferries. The company was founded by the ferry owners from Estonia and Germany and the Estonian Tuule Group. The new service offers up to twelve daily departures with a crossing time of 70 minutes. By using Elb-Link around 200 road kilometres or up to two hours travel time can be saved.

Beginning next month Elb-Link will also provide transport services for unaccompanied trailers and containers on chassis. The line has already become popular for a mini cruise on the river Elbe. The vessels are operated by Estonian (deck and engine) and German (command and catering) crews.

DFDS strengthens its position in the Channel

between Finnlines and us – to the benefit of both parties, as volumes here have really decreased dramatically due to the poor relations between EU and Russia.

RoPax: Last year we discussed your capacities on the North Sea. Do you intend to increase by lengthening the existing vessels or do you have a newbuilding program on your desk?

Peder Gellert: As volumes on the North Sea are still very strong, we have decided to lengthen one more of our FSG vessels of the “Flower Class” in 2015. We also have added a sweeper to our Immingham-Rotterdam service and employed the bigger FIONIA SEAWAYS and CORONA SEAWAYS on the Cuxhaven-Immingham route. Next step will be to look at potentially order new ships, which is something we seriously consider time being.

Since 1866 DFDS has been involved in domestic as well as international trade, transporting both cargo and passengers. DFDS’ international activities started in the North Sea and were continued in the Baltic Sea and later in the Mediterranean. On the Baltic Sea DFDS reduced capacities to Russia. On the Channel the market share was gained through the bareboat chartering of two RoPax ferries previously operated by MyFerryLink

RoPax: In the eastbound trade between Kiel and Klaipeda and Ust Luga respectively DFDS does not operate own tonnage on the Ust Luga line anymore and utilizes capacity of a Finnlines vessel. On the other hand DFDS employed up to three vessels to and from Klaipeda. What is the situation in this traffic corridor? Does the volume suffer from sanctions against Russia?

RoPax: Let’s have a look on the English Channel. DFDS has won some market shares after the fights with My Ferrylink which left the ferry business. Now DFDS will integrate two more vessels into its fleet.

Peder Gellert: We of course immediately felt the impact of the sanctions between Russia and the EU but during 2015 we have managed to recover this loss by other volumes between eastern and western Europe.

Today our route between Kiel and Klaipeda is well utilized but we still suffer from hard pressure on the freight rates. The Kiel-Russia service is now a slot charter arrangement

won out against My Ferry Link on the English Channel. The Danish shipping company guaranteed to take up to 202 of former Seafrance staff in its French organisation.

The two RoPax ferries have been renamed “Côte des Dunes” (ex “Sea France Rodin”) and “Côte des Flandres” (ex “Seafrance Berlioz”). DFDS intends growing and strengthening its position on the Channel.

RoPax: Your line between Amsterdam and Newcastle also experiences increases. Do you look for modern replacement vessels for this route? Which strategy do you have for the passenger traffic?

Peder Gellert: The Amsterdam-Newcastle service has been very successful the past couple of years and the vessels are indeed getting older, just like the rest of us. We are looking at substitutes both for this service and for our Copenhagen-Oslo service which has also enjoyed quite a lot of tailwind in recent years. There is, however, not much on the second-hand market of interest at this moment in time but we will keep looking as the passenger activity is of major importance and interest to DFDS.

How does your company ensure to offer modern ferry links to England? Did DFDS experience significant increases in cargo volumes in this area?

Peder Gellert: I have always believed in growing volumes on the Channel, this is why we stood the long fight for the vessels though it has in deed cost us a great deal of money. In February we took over the “Côte des Dunes” and two weeks later the time had come to take over the sister vessel “Côte des Flandres”. Both have undergone substantial repairs and upgrading and will display our new branding and on-board concepts. At the same time we will redeliver

RoPax: Do you have some news about DFDS’ Mediterranean activities? Is this region still in your focus?

Peder Gellert: The Mediterranean is still a region of keen interest to us. Unfortunately trade is not as lively as we had hoped for, probably but not only due to the political unrest in some countries in Northern Africa. We believe opportunities will occur in that region and we are ready to seize them.

In other areas of the region competition is very keen between the ferry operators and we believe it is hard for any of them to be profitable. This calls for consolidation, which we are not unfamiliar with.

RoPax: Mr Gellert, thank you very much for this conversation!

The innovative vessel type was designed by the Danish naval architects Knud E Hansen. ACL has been operating the services connecting Liverpool with ports in North America and Europe since 1969. ACL offers weekly container and roll-on/roll-off service between North America and Europe as well as South America and West Africa.

The first of five built for Atlantic Container Line (ACL), the “Atlantic Star” can carry 3800 TEU and has 28,900 m2 of ro-ro space and capacity for 1300 vehicles. The remaining four G4 vessels are currently under construction at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in China and will be delivered to ACL during the first half of this year. The second vessel “Atlantic Sail” passed her test trails successful and will come into service in march.

Double capacity – high safety for container In total the new type has 80% more capacity compared to the old G 3 class ConRo`s.

Whilst the same dimensions in length and width as its predecessor, this is more than

double the box-carrying capacity. Together with other innovations aimed at improving efficiency, this brings down emissions per container by two-thirds. The new carrier also has 764 TEU of RORO space against 525 TEU to the old vessels and space in the car decks for 1,307 vehicles against 1,000 at the old type G 3. The secret for this capacity boost is a higher superstructure of the vessel. In total 4,546 TEU as containers could be load. 208 container places are fitted with reefer plugs.

“Atlantic Star” has a length o.a. 296.00 m and a breadth moulded of 37.60 m. The design draught are 10.25 m maximum operating draught are 11.50 m. The deadweight (design draught) abt. 44700 t, maximum operating draught are 56700 t.

The ro-ro ramps are wider and shallower and the ro-ro decks are higher (up to 7.4m) with fewer columns, enabling much easier loading and discharge of oversized cargo.

RoRo ramps are constructed by Mac Gregor and it is the first time that ACL use electric engines and not hydraulic systems for ramp operations.

Efficient propulsion system The vessel has a transom stern, high efficiency rudder and single screw fixed pitch propeller directly driven by a slow speed Wärtsila 8RTflex68D Sulzer type engine with 22,000 kw. The engine room is located aft. There is a pipe duct between the engine room and the bow thruster room. With a service speed of 18kt, the vessels will make an Atlantic crossing in around seven days.

All new ACL ConRos are equipped with scrubbers to full fill the sulfur regulations in the North Sea and at the North American east coast.

“Atlantic Star” will operate with a service speed of 18 knots. The turnaround time in the ports are the same because the ramp system has more space for double load process.

Typical design for ACL ConRos are the cellguides on deck, as the company believes this provides added-value to its customers by drastically reducing the risk of containers falling over the side. ACL has an enviable record, its ships have never lost a container over the side during the last 30 years.

The ro-ro spaces are arranged generally at midship area and container bays are be arranged in both ends of the vessel. Most modern con-ro vessels stow containers on deck and lighter ro-ro cargo underdeck. Because of the significant air space that naturally occurs between ro-ro cargo compared to the denser stowage of containers, most of the weight rides high, necessitating significant ballast for stability. Atlantic Star has four auxiliary engines 2 with 1990 kW and 2 with 2635 kW. Only in the port operation mode minimum three auxiliary are needed for the two bow thrusters and for the ramp operations. At sea, energy could be generated via the shaft generator. The whole power system has enough redundancies.

Owner and operater of Liverpool harbor, Peel Ports Group retained the transatlantic services and will make a $16.7m investment in Liverpool to widen the Seaforth Passage and create a dedicated car storage area capable of handling 70,000 vehicles per year.

ACL has agreed an extended 10-year contract with Peel Ports Group.

In addition, ACL is expanding its Liverpool office to concentrate its commercial, marine and logistics operations work in the city, increasing staff numbers by 40% to over 180 people.

This historic union, the first of the container age, results in the creation of Atlantic Container Line (ACL), serving the trade between Europe and East Coast of North America. The Atlantic Span, is the first of ACL's four G-1 (first generation) vessels.

In 1984 five, newly constructed ACL G-3 (third generation) RORO/Containerships, the largest of their kind in the world (2160 TEUs), enter the North Atlantic service.

The G-3s are fuel efficient and highly flexible for a wide mix of cargoes. The ACL newbuilds continue to employ cell guides on deck, a feature that ACL hopes will help continue its enviable track record of having never lost a container overboard in the last 30 years. The innovative G4 design involves putting all ro-ro cargo midships and stowing heavier, more densely-stowed containerized cargo fore and aft, resulting in greater stability and a more efficient use of vessel space. In conventional ConRo ships, the containerised cargo is stored on deck with the lighter and less dense ro-ro cargo below deck, requiring a great deal of ballast for stability.

Marfin und Allianz mit ANEK Lines sichern Zukunft

Superfast Ferries

n Nord- und Ostsee gibt es mittlerweile keine Superfast-Fähren mehr, doch im Östlichen Mittelmeer ist die griechische Fährreederei dank des Einstiegs von Marfin Investments und einer Fahrplangemeinschaft mit dem ehemaligen Konkurrenten ANEK Lines fest etabliert.

2015 konnte die griechische Fährreederei Superfast Ferries auf eine 20jährige Geschichte zurückblicken. 1993 als Tochter der griechischen Traditionsreederei Attica Enterprises (seit 2004 Attica Group) gegründet, revolutionierte Superfast 1995 mit zwei schnellen RoPax-Fähren den bis dahin von Second Hand-Tonnage dominierten Seeverkehrsmarkt in der Adria. So konnten die Schwesterschiffe „Superfast I“ und „Superfast II“ mit ihrer Höchstgeschwindigkeit von knapp 28 Knoten die Überfahrtszeit zwischen An-

cona und Patras von vormals 36 auf nur noch 20 Stunden verkürzen. Als 1998 die Neubauten „Superfast III“ und „Superfast IV“ zur Flotte hinzustießen, konnte Superfast Ferries mit den beiden älteren Einheiten ferner eine neue Verbindung zwischen Bari und Patras starten.

1999 bestellte die Attica Group für Superfast Ferries dann nicht weniger als sechs weitere RoPax-Fähren, die 2001/2002 auf der Route Ancona – Patras die nach Australien verkauften Einheiten III und IV ersetzten („Superfast V“ und „Superfast VI“) bzw. neue Fährlinien in der Ostsee (Rostock – Hanko, „Superfast VII“ und „Superfast VIII“) und in der Nordsee (Zeebrügge – Rosyth, „Superfast IX“ und „Superfast X“) eröffneten. Von großer Bedeutung war 1999 auch der Einstieg von Attica Enterprises bei der griechischen Fährreederei Strintzis Ferries. Die neue Tochtergesellschaft, die ausschließlich innergriechis-

che Fährlinien bedient, firmiert seitdem als Blue Star Ferries. 2002 schließlich schlossen die Einheiten „Superfast XI“ und „Superfast XII“ das Neuprogramm zunächst ab; binnen sieben Jahren hatte Superfast Ferries zwölf moderne RoPaxFähren in Dienst gestellt, von denen zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch zehn in Süd- wie auch in Nordeuropa verkehrten.

In der Folge verringerte Superfast Ferries jedoch seine Präsenz in beiden Märkten.

Die ersten Neubauten „Superfast I“ und „Superfast II“ wurden 2003/2004 verkauft und die Bari-Routen stattdessen von Einheiten aus der Blue Star-Flotte bedient.

Und auch aus Nord- und Ostsee zog sich Superfast wieder zurück. Im Sommer 2008 war die Flotte wieder auf vier Einheiten geschrumpft, die allesamt in der Adria verkehrten.

Die nächste Phase der Expansion leitete jedoch Ende 2008 nach dem Einstieg von Marfin Investments die Wiederaufnahme des schnellen RoPax-Verkehrs zwischen Bari und Patras durch die Neubauten „Superfast I“ (2) und „Superfast II“ (2) ein.

Darüber hinaus machte der erstarkte Wettbewerb auf der Route Ancona – Patras 2011 eine Fahrplangemeinschaft mit ANEK Lines nötig, der sich auch auf die 2009 von Superfast neu eröffnete Route Piräus – Heraklion erstreckte. Nachdem 2010 bzw. 2013 auch noch die Einheiten „Superfast V“ und „Superfast VI“ verkauft worden waren, ermöglicht die Zusammenarbeit mit ANEK Lines seitdem einen noch flexibleren Tonnage-Einsatz, der vor allem die Superfast-Fähren „Superfast XI“ und „Superfast XII“ inzwischen auch regelmäßig im Einsatz auf innergriechischen Fährlinien vorsieht. Die 2011 zunächst auf drei Jahre begrenzte FahrplanGemeinschaft mit ANEK Lines wurde daher 2014 um weitere drei Jahre bis 2017 verlängert. 2014 konnte die Attica Group als Ganze nach fünf aufeinanderfolgenden verlustreichen Jahren erstmals wieder einen Gewinn ausweisen.

Started in 1995 with a fast RoPax service across the Adriatic, the company soon ordered more vessels and expanded into areas such as the Baltic and the North Sea. The latter services were closed a few years ago, but thanks to Marfin Investments acquiring a major stake in the company in late 2007 and Superfast’s parent company entering into a code-share agreement with ANEK Lines, the company returned to profitability in 2014, offering ferry services both across the Adriatic and on Greek domestic routes.

Über den Kieler Seehafen wurden im vergangenen Jahr 2,1 Mio. Passagiere (+ 2,0 %) befördert und 6,2 Mio. Tonnen Güter (- 4,2 %) umgeschlagen. Das rückläufige Frachtergebnis ist dabei hauptsächlich auf einen schwächeren Umschlag von Massengütern zurückzuführen. Sowohl bei Kraftwerkskohle als auch bei Getreide konnte nicht an das Vorjahr angeknüpft werden. Dr. Dirk Claus, Geschäftsführer der SEEHAFEN KIEL GmbH & Co. KG: „Trotz eines rückläufigen Umschlags gerade bei Massengütern sind wir mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden, da sich der Hafen in seinen Kerngeschäftsfeldern behaupten konnte.

Zudem haben wir in 2015 wichtige Weichenstellungen für weiteres Wachstum in 2016 vollzogen. Hierzu wird der bereits aufgenommene Umschlag von Papier aus Nordschweden seinen Beitrag leisten.“ Im Passagierverkehr profitierte Kiel von einer

Dirk Claus: „Lange Werftaufenthalte zogen einen negativen Einmaleffekt nach sich, der im Jahresverlauf allerdings weitgehend aufgefangen wurde.“

In Vorbereitung des Projektes wurden bereits im Herbst 2015 zwei unmittelbar an Liegeplatz Nr. 1 angrenzende jeweils 10.000 m² große Lagerhallen umgebaut. Die bestehenden Schuppen 1 und 2 erhielten neue Dächer und speziell für die Papierlagerung ausgelegte Fußböden. Für den Umschlag sowie den Betrieb in den Hallen wird zusätzliches Fachpersonal eingestellt und neues Gerät angeschafft. Der Seehfaen Kiel hat den neuen Kunden SCA gewinnen können aufgrund seiner geografischen Lage zum

Die Osteuropaverkehre ab Kiel waren mit Handelsbeschränkungen zwischen der EU und Russland sowie einer Abwertung des Rubels konfrontiert. Während die Linie Kiel – Klaipeda (Litauen) ihr Ladungsaufkommen mit erneut über 2 Mio. Tonnen halten konnte, verloren die direkten Verbindungen nach St. Petersburg und Ust-Luga knapp 25 % des Aufkommens.

Auf diese Entwicklung hat die Reederei DFDS Seaways im Herbst 2015 reagiert und eine Slot-Charter-Vereinbarung für den Liniendienst nach Russland geschlossen. Seither laufen Finnlines-Schiffe einmal wöchentlich den Ostuferhafen aus Ust-Luga und St. Petersburg an und bringen vorwiegend russische Forstprodukte nach Kiel. Aufgrund der anhaltend starken Nachfrage nach Schuppenraum zur Einlagerung von Holz wird die SEEHAFEN

Nord- Ostsee Kanal. SCA hat seine gesamte Logistik neu ausgelegt und die Papiermengen von Lübeck nach Kiel verlagert um seine drei Schiff in Kombination mit Ladungsmengen, die nach Benelux bzw. England gehen besser zu nutzen.

Ausblick Der Seehafen Kiel peilt für 2017 einen Umschlag von 7 Mio. to. an. Außerdem werden auf den Terminals für den nachhaltigen Umschlag, die ersten elektrischen Stapler bzw. auch Zugmaschinen getestet.

Der Standort Lübeck hat im letzten Jahr Papierladungen von den Terminals der Lübecker Hafengesellschaft an die Häfen Rostock und Kiel verloren. RoPax hat mit Holger Lehmann, als privater Betreiber von Hafenteilen in Lübeck, über die aktuelle Lage gesprochen.

RoPax: Wie sehen Sie die derzeitige Situation für den Hafenstandort Lübeck und die Perspektiven?

Holger Lehmann: Die günstige geographische Lage Lübecks als südwestlichster Ostseehafen Deutschlands bleibt ein wichtiger Pluspunkt im Wettbewerb mit anderen Standorten. Im Nachlauf nach Hamburg und ins Ruhrgebiet hat Lübeck die Nase weiterhin vorne.

RoPax: Die Unternehmensgruppe Lehmann mit ihren Schwerpunkten Reederei, Hafenumschlag, Lager sowie Beton und Brennstoffe hat sich als sehr zuverlässiger Umschlagsbetrieb neben dem traditionellen Bulkumschlag im RoRo, ConRo, RoPax und Container Bereich etabliert.

Wie ist Ihre derzeitige Auslastung und wie hat sich der neue Containerverkehr an dem CTL entwickelt?

Holger Lehmann: Wir verfügen über ausreichende Kapazitäten sowohl im Massengut-, RoRo-, Stückgut- und Containerumschlag bzw. Kombiverkehr. Bei zusätzlicher Nachfrage sind wir in der Lage flexibel und kurzfristig zu reagieren. Wir haben das Cargo Terminal Lehmann (CTL) innerhalb von 3 Monaten grundlegend umgebaut und mit dieser Investition den Containerumschlag seit November 2013 wieder in Betrieb genommen. Seit Februar 2015 kann die Fa. Lehmann des Weiteren Verladungen im Kombiverkehr anbieten. Beide Segmente entwickeln sich dank unserer Geschäftspartner dynamisch weiter.

Rostocker Hafenumschlag wächst weiter

Im vergangenen Jahr wurden über die Rostocker Hafenanlagen 27,2 Millionen Tonnen Güter (brutto) umgeschlagen. Das waren eine Million Tonnen bzw. vier Prozent mehr als im Jahr 2014. Im Überseehafen Rostock gingen 25,1 Millionen Tonnen Fracht über die Kaikanten.

Starke Zuwächse gab es bei der rollenden Ladung, den Fähr- und RoRo-Gütern und bei Stückgütern. Leichte Einbußen verzeichnete der Schüttgutumschlag und größere der Umschlag von Flüssiggütern.

Bei der rollenden Ladung, den Fähr- und RoRo-Gütern, zog der Umschlag erneut stark an. Insgesamt stieg die Menge um 1,1 Millionen Tonnen auf 14,7 Millionen Tonnen (+8 Prozent zum Vorjahr).

Im vergangenen Jahr gingen 616.377 Tonnen Papier im Seehafen Rostock über die Kaikanten der Liegeplätze 60, 62 und 63.

Das waren 349.827 Tonnen mehr als 2014.

Nie zuvor wurde so viel Papier in Rostock umgeschlagen. Insbesondere durch die Konzentration des UPM-Papiergeschäfts in der südlichen Ostsee auf den Hafen Rostock. Der Papierumschlag wurde wegen des attraktiveren Angebotes und der höheren Flexibilität der Hafendienstleister von Lübeck nach Rostock verlagert. Durch

die Papierverlagerung verbindet die Reederei Transfennica wieder den Hafen Rostock mit dem finnischen Hafen Kotka.

Kreuzfahrthafen Warnemünde weiter Spitze Die Kreuzfahrtsaison 2016 beginnt im Warnemünder Kreuzfahrthafen am 28.

Port of Kiel: Growth by paper handling In 2015 the Port of Kiel handled 2.1 million passengers (plus 2 percent) and 6.2 million tons cargo (minus 4.2 percent). The decline in freight volumes was mainly caused by a reduction in bulk cargoes. Kiel also experienced a successful cruise season with increased passenger volumes. In regards to long range passenger ferries and cruise Kiel is the leading port in Germany. Kiel’s core business are the ferry services to Sweden, Norway, Russia and the Baltic States. In 2016 the cargo business is expected to reach the 2014 level with more than 414,000 RoRo units. EU sanctions against Russia also influenced the handling volumes with a decrease of 25 percent. As a result DFDS reduced its capacity and signed a subcharter contract with Finnlines.

Rostock port recognized a successful year During the first year under the new management Rostock port recorded an increase in cargo volumes: 27.2 million tons of goods were handled via the docks. This equals a growth of four percent compared to 2014. In view of the reduction in oil and bulk volumes it was a remarkable year. These volumes were compensated by the increased ferry traffic and also the new paper cargoes which started in 2015. Rostock received paper cargoes from Lübeck and a new connection to Kotka operated by Transfennica.

Warnemünde, part of the Port of Rostock, is one of the leading cruise destinations at the German Baltic Sea coast and expects 182 calls by 33 cruise vessels in 2016.

The management gives a positive outlook into the next years based on increasing ferry traffic. Rostock’s position will be strengthened by new ferries on shorter routes. Also the new Scandlines ferries which are scheduled to be put into service to Gedser in Denmark will contribute in the further increase of passenger and cargo volumes.

Ausblick und Investitionen Laut Gernot Tesch sieht man für den Hafenstandort weitere Wachstumschancen durch Verlagerungseffekte bei den Fährlinien auf kürzere Strecken durch die seit 2015 geltende Schwefelrichtlinie.

Dieser Prozess wird zur Zeit durch den niedrigen Ölpreis gebremst.

Auch auf der Linie nach Gedser in Dänemark sieht man Wachstumschancen mit der im April geplanten Inbetriebnahme des ersten Neubaus „Berlin“.

Der Seekanal in Warnemünde wird in 2016 vertieft von 14,50 m auf 16,50 m und bietet somit die Durchfahrt auch für größere Bulker. Die Geschäftsführung der HERO sieht im Fährverkehr einen Bedarf an Erneuerung der bestehenden Tonnage.

Durch die Veränderung der Rahmenbedingungen in der Nord- und Ostsee hat sich ein Investitionsstau gebildet. Zur zeit ist die Nachfrage nach LNG Bunkermöglichkeiten noch sehr gering. Der Rostocker Hafen hat für eine steigende Nachfrage eine Partnerschaft mit der Gazprom vereinbart. Wenn es zur Installation einer LNG Anlage kommt, sieht die HERO Leitung hier Möglichkeiten im Ölhafen.

Ports of Stockholm building new ferry and passenger terminal

As part of the Stockholm Royal Seaport urban development project Ports of Stockholm is rebuilding Värtahamnen. With five modern quay berths and a new, modern passenger terminal we will be able to welcome more vessels and passengers to Stockholm. The Värta Terminal will be larger, lighter and more energyefficient and the space will be better utilized than in the current terminal. When the new port is ready, at the end of 2016, the City of Stockholm will have 85,000 m2 of new land to build homes and offices on.

Construction in the harbour The reconstruction of the current berths along the inner harbour will commence in vintertime 2015/2016. Piles, steel sheet pile and struts will be installed. The area inside the sheet pile walls will be filled-in with crushed rock and stabilized. The quays alongside will also be renovated. Construction in and around the harbour basin will continue until December 2016.

Stockholms Värtahamnen is ready for more passenger volumes and afaster flow

New Terminal Värtahamn

The passenger terminal A new passenger terminal will be built on the new pier. This will link the port to the city. The terminal will be a landmark for the new Stockholm Royal Seaport city district. The new building will welcome Stockholms residents and visitors to its roof terraces for a panoramic view over the entrance to the port.

A new business and shopping centre is planned, directly adjacent to the terminal.

The new building will be larger, lighter and more spaceefficient than the current terminal. It will be sustainable and more energy efficient.

The new passenger terminal at Värtahamnen will be built from 2014 to 2016. The current terminal will continue to operate until the new terminal opens in 2016.

The port of Stockholm also invest in a new terminal information technology for traffic stearing and the whole flow. The systems will be installed and delivered by SWARCO Sweden and a part of the HOGIA terminal operating system will be used for the installtion and operation. Hogia is a leading supplier for terminal IT systems for RoPax, RoRo and Container ports including intermodal transport handling in Europe.

The new Veteran is a complete project of Damen group, Design by Knut E. Hansen (owned by DAMEN) and construction at DAMEN shipyard Romania.

Damen RoPax Ferry MV Veteran for Canadian lifeline vessel replacement The Damen 80-metre Ice Class RoPax Ferry MV Veteran handover in October 2015 to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador (GNL) in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Built by Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania and designed by KNUD E. HANSEN A/S. The vessel operates from Fogo Island and Change Islands. “MV Veteran” was delivered from the shipyard on time and within budget. DAMEN Group & KNUD E. HANSEN A/S won the tender with a bid that amounts to 51 million CAD. “MV Veteran” is the first of a two-vessel contract, with a design stemming from a Canadian-Danish partnership between Fleetway and Knud E. Hansen. Several Canadian companies provided services for these vessels, from electrical equipment to fire-

fighting systems. The sister ship, the “MV Legionnaire”, launched by the same shipyard on 15 July 2015, is scheduled for delivery in the July of 2016. MV Legionnaire will operate on the short-haul route, the busiest route from Portugal Cove to Bell Island.

The innovative ferry replaced the old “MV Captain Earl W. Winsor “with an age of 40 years which in recent years has suffered many cancelled voyages caused by technical problems, as reported in the Canadian media. This 200-passenger vessels has roll-on, roll-off capacity for 60 vehicles, and unload passenger and vehicle traffic quickly. The 80.9 long “MV Veteran” with a beam of 17.2 . The sister ship will replace the “MV Beaumont Hamel” which dates from 1985.

“MV Veteran” has icebreaking capabilities, super A1 ice class in order to suit the operating environment. The original design

package comprised concept design, tender design and basic design and was carried out in collaboration with the client's Canadian design partner Fleetway Inc. Since this region is located near the Arctic, vessels have to manoeuver in drifting ice.

According to Damen Manager North America Jan van Hogerwou, “GNL wants to provide service continuity. These highly durable ferries can handle the impact of 40 cm-thick floating ice at 4 knots. Their rudders, hull and propellers have been strengthened and are outfitted with extra plate thickness for heavy winter conditions.”

Diesel Electric propulsion The MV Veteran has a length of 80.90 meters and a width of 17 meters. The vessel has a capacity of 200 passengers and 190 and 350 lane meters of trucks / cars. It is propelled by a diesel-electric (ECA approved) machinery composed of three Caterpillar 3512C -C motors connected generators.

The engines work on a redundant concept.

She has a service speed of 14 knots and 4 knots in icebreaking mode. The bridge is ergonomically designed and has optimal working space for efficient and safe operation. The shift crew lives on board the ship in 15 single crew cabins. The vessel has a classification by ABS. taken by the Provincial Government to modernize its fleet. These are critical marine ferry services for Newfoundlanders as well as visitors to the region. For GNL, upgrading the safety level and reliability of its vessels is a major priority in order to safeguard the well-being of the islanders.

GNL’s provincial fleet annually transports over 900,000 passengers, 400,000 vehicles and 20,000 tonnes of freight with more than 50,000 arrivals and departures.

Tallink invests every year in fleet renewal and actual one new building of a fast cruise pax ferry is ordered at Meyer yard in Turku. The company's vision is to be the market pioneer in Europe by offering excellence in leisure and business travel and sea transportation services. RoPax: How is the situation between Finland and Sweden, you have revitalized your fleet. Do you see an increasing market for the future?

RoPax: You have a decrease of cargo transport between Sweden and Finland, effected by the European sanctions againts Russia?

Janek Stalmeister: That can be more linked

to the fact that we have reduced capacity between Finland and Sweden by rerouting the cargo ship “Seawind” to Estonia-Finland route, where we see more cargo growth.

RoPax: In 2015 the 0.1% sulfur regulation started, you operate all of your ferries with marine gas oil, do you have plans to install scrubbers or is LNG a solution for the whole fleet in the future? Do you want to order more new ferries with LNG propulsion?

Janek Stalmeister: Scrubbers are not on the list currently. The next ferry has been ordered with the dual fuel powering including LNG, but on current fleet we are having excellent cooperation with organizations, scientists and companies to find and test various solutions to further improve the environmental performance of the ships.

Doch dann kam alles ganz anders. Denn die mit hohen Kosten verbundenen Investitionen hatte die Reederei an die Maßgabe gebunden, seitens der französi-

bern ausgerüstet werden. In zwei Phasen wurden daher zunächst die älteren Fähren „Normandie“, „Cap Finistere“ und Barfleur“ eingedockt (2014/15) und dann die jüngeren Einheiten „Mont St. Michel“, „Armorique“ und „Pont-Aven“ (20152017). Ausgenommen von dem Umbauprogramm waren nur die gecharterten Fährschiffe „Etretat“ und „Baie de Seine“ sowie die Schnellfähre „Normandie Express“ und das älteste Mitglied der Flotte, die 1989 gebaute „Bretagne“.

Den Anfang machte bereits kurz nach Bekanntgabe der Abkehr vom LNG-Programm die „Normandie“, die sich vom 18.10. – 28.12.2014 einem Werftaufenthalt bei der spanischen Astander Shipyard (Astilleros de Santander S.A.) unterzog.

(Auf derselben Werft wurden auch die folgenden Scrubber-Einbauten vorgenommen.) Fast genau zwei Monate blieb die „Normandie“ außer Dienst, ehe sie auf ihre Stammroute Caen – Portsmouth zurückkehrte. Als zweites Schiff ging Anfang 2015 dann die „Cap Finistere“ in die Werft, auf der der Scrubber vom 15.01. – 22.03.2015 RoPax 6 / 03.2016

Da Brittany Ferries während der Hochsaison im Sommer naturgemäß alle Schiffe im Einsatz benötigt, begann der zweite Teil der Nachrüstung der Flotte erst im Herbst 2015. Zuerst verholte Anfang Oktober 2015 die „Mont St.-Michel“ nach Santander; dieses Schiff erhielt seine Abgasfilteranlage zwischen den seitlich angeordneten Doppelschornsteinen zwischen dem 06.10. und dem 08.12.2015. Den Abschluss des Umbauprogramms markieren die Umrüstungen der „Armorique“ und der „PontAven“, die für Anfang 2016 bzw. Anfang 2017 angesetzt sind. Brittany Ferries beziffert die Umbaukosten für alle sechs Schiffe zusammen mit ca. 100 Mio. €. Bei den installierten Scrubbern handelt es sich im sog. Open Loop-Scrubber der Firma Yara Marine (vormals Green Tech Marine).

Three more ships were due to follow, with the rebuilding of the „Mont St. Michel“ having taken place lately and the remaining „Armorique“ and „Pont-Aven“ due at Santander in early 2016 and 2017 respectively. Christophe Mathieu: We have fitted four vessels with scrubbers and two more will get scrubber technology. We installed three open loop systems and one hybrid system.

The two vessels, which will be this year in the yard, will get also a hybrid system. The first operational experiences with the French system are positive. If we look to our ferry „Bretagne“ because of her age, the vessel will not be equipped with a scrubber.

Stena Line has a modern fleet with a total of 35 vessels including traditional combi-ferries, RoPax ferries for freight and passengers, and pure cargo ships.

very year over 14 million passengers travel with Stena Line. The company also transport 1,5 million cars and about 2 million freight units. In 2015 Stena set with „Stena Germanica“ the first methanol marine propulsion ferry into service. The first operative results are positive and the leading ferry company of the world decided to convert all remaining engines to the green engine system.

Stena Line invested more in its fleet for reducing emissions. At the North Sea the two Superferries „Stena Hollandica“ and „Stena Britanica“and the RoPax vessels „Stena Transporter“ and „Stena Transit“ will be fitted with scrubber technology.

Stena had 2015 a successful year with increasing income in its ferry operations and continue of restructure of its operations with the aim to improve profitability.

At its lines in the Baltic Sea the results were stable and a continue growth at the routes between south Sweden and Poland and Baltic States were registered. The line RoPax 6 / 03.2016

between Trelleborg and Rostock registered a growth based on more cargo units but also railway waggons. This corridor will get more loads in the future based on the short distance between Germany and Sweden.

At the Irish sea Stena increased its market share and in the beginning of 2016 seven ferries got an intensive overhaul. 2015 was the busiest year to date for car and freight numbers. In the two decades since it moved to Belfast, Stena Line has expanded its services significantly and today the company employs over 900 staff, transports 1.4 million passengers, 318 000 cars and almost 500 000 freight units annually.

Stena Line‘s Irish Sea North region has experienced a number of notable milestones over the last two decades including the construction of a new £35 million VT4 terminal in Belfast in 2008 and in 2011 the company established a new port and terminal facility at Loch Ryan Port (Cairnryan) adding two award winning Superfast vessels. In the same year it also acquired the Belfast-Liverpool/Heysham routes from DFDS. At the Irish Sea Stena will continue its growth for the next years it will be interesting to see a today not confirmed fleet renewal. The demand for modern tonnage will increase and the market needs flexible solutions.

RoPax talked to deputy CEO Mr Niclas Mårtensson about the development of Stena Line.

RoPax: In 2015 the new regulation for reduced sulfur emissons entered into force.

Stena started its methanol porpulsion concept at the route Kiel - Gothenburg. How are your results and experience to operate under these new regulations and how is performance of your engine concept?

Niclas Mårtensson: The pilot project, running „Stena Germanica“ on Methanol, has been active since March 2015 and the first engine is running with good results. Now the remaining three Wärtsilä engines will be converted as a part of the project. When „Stena Germanica“ is running fully on methanol her SOx and PM emissions are reduced by 90% and her NOx emissions are 60% lower. And when we will use biomethanol, we will reduce all carbon dioxide emissions. Technically, methanol is working very well, but it’s not the cheapest solution and there’s no long-term pricing certainty. In general our experience with the SECA regulation is that we survived the implementation thanks to the reduced oil price but primarily due to our fuel efficiency program, including fine tuning of our ship operation, changing bulbs and propellers as well as a constant measuring of performance per ship.

RoPax: Will Stena invest in more methanol porpulsion systems in the future? Or do you follow also the scrubber solution?

Niclas Mårtensson: We are evaluating a number of options to reduce emissions, including methanol, exhaust gas cleaning system (scrubber), using low-sulphur fuel and

We are right now investing in our North Sea fleet with scrubbers, and for the moment Stena Transit have been equipped with scrubbers during 2015, and during 2016 three more vessels on the North Sea will follow.

RoPax: Could you give us an outlook for bookings and trends at the different markets where you operate. Baltic Sea, North Sea and Irish Sea. Niclas Mårtensson: During 2015 we saw a healthy growth for both passengers, cars and freight mainly on the Irish Sea, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. We expect this trend to continue during 2016. There are many and different reasons for this in each region. But over-all we can identify a higher performance than the market, and this is connected to our European route network, attracting many of our major customers as well as a solid and reliable product.
