Rituals are different than habits.

Habits come from the intellect.

Rituals come from the heart.

Rituals are the spirit.

Habits are the science.

You need both for best results.

Prayer. Blessings. Releasing. Writing and burning. This is how we call in the elements and the light.

Spiritual rituals—simple, ancient, personalized, are the nutrition for right action.

Rituals infuse our actions with meaning—they pull in divine support.

Rituals are active blessings for your desired outcomes.

If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.

- The Gospel of Thomas

My Friend,

Catharsis, lightening our mental load, progress… Who doesn’t love a good letting go ritual?!

So much of our spiritual work is simply about cleansing. We clear the emotional weight and the sticky thoughtforms so that more Wisdom and Joy—the light of the Soul––can pour into us.

The Write & Burn ritual is for spiritual hygiene. It’s a form of shadow work––which is really light work. Instead of ignoring or rejecting our heavy emotions, we honour them. We put pencil to paper, we sync up with the planetary energies, and we call on the transmutational power of fire.

We alchemize density into energy flow.

By doing this letting go ritual on Full Moon and Dark of the Moons we get a metaphysical boost for the process. These moon times are when we might feel more emotional crunchiness. The shadow self is asking to be paid attention to so we can find relief. Write n’ burns are how we lean in and find balance.

Keep looking, and keep loving what you find in the dark. It’s an act of self compassion, really. And it’s what sets us free to enjoy this life.

I’m so glad you’re here.

With Love,

THE WRITE + BURN RITUAL

—which you follow up with a bathing ritual to complete the process

DIRECTIONS:

1. Ideally do this in the evening.

2. Write for a minimum of 21 minutes—or longer if you like. There is a set of questions for the Dark of the Moon and a different set for New Moons. All questions are open to interpretation, follow your stream of consciousness. Let it flow!

3. Use a lead pencil to write.

4. If you need more writing space than what’s provided in the journal, use another piece of paper. Whatever works for you is what’s best.

5. Tear out the pages...

6. Burn safely. Metal sinks are good, or a metal or ceramic bowl, a fireplace. Or tear into tiny pieces as a symbol of the release.

7. Please follow up with a salt bath or shower ASAP to fully cleanse your energy field.

 The Full Moon symbolize resolution, fulfillment, shedding, and letting go of what’s arising in the mind-body continuum. Whatever’s surfacing in your emotions, perceptions, or thoughts from the four days the Full Moon, up to the cycle’s culmination, is appearing so that it can be consciously offered up and released. Meet it with courage, offer it upward to the Greater Light to be transformed.

 The Dark of the Moon, also referred to as Kālikā Moon (in ancient Hindu), is the 24-hours before the New Moon. It’s considered the most potent time of the month to intentionally allow shadow aspects to come to the surface—it’s an ideal time to cleanse and purify old energies. We’re making inward space by cleansing and purifying old energies, distortions, bindings, and accumulations. In other words, it’s an opportunity to be loving with the crunchy emotions so you move forward lighter and happier.

The Dark of the Moon Write + Burn helps us be more ready for the fresh energy of the New Moon—which symbolizes new beginnings, time for clarifying and setting intentions, making, launching, and acts of generosity.

We burn things to shift stuck energies, to clear obstacles. The Element of Fire is transmutational. It shifts energy. And as the smoke rises, we are sending our intention to the heavens.

Ask for what’s heavy to be transformed into lightness. Ask for what’s constricting to be transformed into freedom. Request that space be made for Faith to flood in where there was doubt, for strength to replace the pain, for sadness to make way for delight.

Practical note: Ideally, do this outside so you can connect with the fire elementals that dwell in that area. Even a balcony space will do. But if you can’t get outside then burn in your sink, or in a metal or ceramic bowl. Have water handy, open the windows. Have a towel handy to fan the smoke detector. If the fire department arrives, say, “Hi, guys! Just giving up my pain for transmutation!”

You can also invoke the fire element while lighting candles on your altar, or sacred space. Using an intention of your choice, you can ask the fire to carry away any old residue in your energy field, and request to safely burn away old thought-forms, old debris, any stagnant energies that are binding and constricting. Blessed and released!

Remember: Energy follows thought. Whatever you focus on intentionally, while consciously participating, will create a shift in your auric field.

This is energy work—use the power of your intentions!

NOTES:

+ You may notice that we repeat the same Write + Burn questions every month. There’s a reason for that. The steady questions allow us to relax more into our subconscious. And you will see things we might not if we were switching up the questions all the time. Repetition in this case helps us to go deeper.

+ The CENTERED Planner + app will notify you which days of the month are Dark of the Moons and Full Moons, or you can search it up online.

+ The bathing practice is a very important part of the efficacy of this ritual. Please plan this for days when you are going to be able to shower or have a bath immediately after the Write + Burn.

THE SALT BATH RITUAL

Every bath can be considered a ritual. Giving thanks for the water, the medicine of the salt, the essential oils, and gratitude for the washing away of stagnant energy.

Keeping in mind: So much of our spiritual development is simply about cleansing, releasing, removing blocks to Love. We cleanse as part of our devotion to life, not from a place of feeling soiled or tainted, but rather as an offering and letting go so that more Light can work through us. The more Light of consciousness that’s pouring through us, the more powerfully we lead our lives and others.

Sea salt is the greatest energy cleanser that Mother Earth gives us. Ideally, we’d all be dunking in an ocean every day to rinse our energy bodies and physical bodies. Instead, there are sea salt baths!

We can combine bathing, sea salt, and plants with a sacred intention for healing. All plants carry a specific medicine…

NOTE: If you do not have a bathtub, you can mix up some salt and oils in your hands like it’s a body scrub. It’s just as effective!

INGREDIENTS + PREP

+ 3 to 5 cups of dead sea salt (not epsom salt)

+ Two essential oils of your choice—whatever you are called to. Be still for a few seconds and ask your Higher Self or your body what would be best for your healing.

+ You’ll use 12 to 15 drops of one oil, and 1 to 3 drops of the other oil.

+ Bonus…flowers or herbs. Add anything that feels healing to you. Pluck petals from a rose in your living room vase. Shake in some dried oregano if that’s all you have on hand. Add some tree leaves. We’re boosting the cleansing process with plant energies. We’re also creating beauty—and beauty heals.

BATH DIRECTIONS

1. SOUND. Play a mantra that you’re called to.

2. LIGHT. Light a candle. This is more than mood-setting. You’re invoking the element of fire and giving thanks.

3. INTENTION. Set the intention or say a prayer to your Guides for assistance with releasing energies that no longer serve your highest good and beautiful unfolding.

4. SALT. Add dead sea salt to an empty tub—before you run the water.

5. OILS. Drop essential oils onto the salt in a clockwise circular motion (circles formed to the right seal in energy/intention.)

The salt acts as an emulsifier to the oils. If you drop oils directly into water, they’ll just bead on the surface.

6. PLANTS. Add the flowers or herbs as a blessing. BLESS THE WATER WITH YOUR LOVE + GRATITUDE.

7. BATHE. Let it all go. Give thanks to the Divine Mother, to the water, the salt, the plants, the oils, your Guides, yourself. Pray, release, pray, release. Offer it all upwards to the Mother to be transformed into Love.

If possible, dunk your head for a fuller energy release.

8. TIME: 20+ minutes is ideal.

9. THANKS. As the tub drains, give more thanks that energies that no longer serve your highest good have been released.

10. RINSE. This is a must. Follow up with a soapy shower to rinse off any energy residue that you just released!

11. CLEAN: It’s important to clean the tub afterwards to further remove energetic residue.

12. OFFER. Give the flowers and herbs back to the Earth in your yard, compost, or into the garbage—with thanks.

The more we offer up, the more Love we can experience and offer.
