Recruitment all across Division 28 North (and the CNH District) has been phenomenal! This month, I have so many articles and visuals that this newsletter has over twenty amazing pages! Wow! DIVISION 28 NORTH NEWS: Early-Bird Dues are Nov. 1. Our RTC theme is: “Throwback to the 90’s!” RTC money is in, so get set to cheer on Sat., Oct.18, at Centennial HS, 8am-3pm! Next DCM is Oct. 14, at Las Vegas HS. Find chaperones for RTC! Our D28N FRS preps will be on weekends following RTC. And last but certainly not least, please welcome Maria Keang as Division Service Expo Coordinator for this year! (She’s on the cover, this issue!) THREE CHEERS FOR KEY CLUB! Getting back into the good old RTC cheers, ah it’s good to start using my voice again – That is for the cheers of course! Getting to go out and start learning a new cheer is like going to back to my very first RTC cheer prep. It’s a great way to get the flow of the year going again and to see everyone after a long summer. Learning new cheers and getting to catch up makes the year start off shining! As a first practice, I can say we didn’t do too badly! Wasn’t quite “RTC” loud yet; but we sort of had our cheat-sheets on us the whole time, so it was hard to focus on being loud! I am loving the new cheers a lot; I see they really have a good, solid theme going. More people showed up than I thought, since I was going off the Facebook page as to see how many people were going. I was impressed to see that five more than the expected eight showed up! Met some new faces, some old, but we were all there for a reason and that was to cheer – which we certainly did for our duration there. I can say for sure it was a fun time, and getting back to cheering is just so great! A-TECH Member

ARBOR VIEW’S NEW YEAR We began our meeting with the usual Pledge of Allegiance and our Key Club pledge. All the officers introduced themselves, telling everyone a little about ourselves, what we do. Since we were using a PowerPoint, our next slide we discussed what Key Club is and what community service we do at events, giving insight about our previous projects we had done. We also talked about Kiwanis. After that, we showed just how spirited RTC and Fall Rally would be! Then we told them about all the upcoming dues for these events, totaling up to thirty-five members attending RTC and hopefully for Fall Rally as well. We then started to wrap things up with officer information and showing them our social media sites. After the meeting, the new members told us that they felt comfortable doing our basic cheer: How Do You Feel? And then we finally capped it off with an ice-breaker! Overall, it was a great meeting; we had many people come and sign-up for this year. I cannot wait to see how this year goes! Arbor View Historian

ECTA MEETS AGAIN! On Tuesday, August 26 ECTA held our first 2014-2015 Key Club meeting! Our whole board was really excited to see new faces and those who returned to fulfill yet another year in this club! And with a larger turnout than we originally expected, we couldn't be happier! During the meeting we touched up on the purpose of Key Club and how beneficial it could be to a person! Second, let's not forget community service projects! We made sure that we were right on track when it came to mentioning projects that'll kick off our year as a club. To start off our Key Club had two options in which members had a choice of what project they were interested in participating in: Clean the World or Run or Dye, two projects that are not only fun but also uplifting! To end our first meeting we played the intense ice breaker treasure hunt! It was really fun seeing old and new members running around and laughing - it set the bar on our idea of wanting an exciting school year as a club. Overall, our first meeting was great and I can't wait to see how much Key Club has in store for us for this 2014-2015 school year! ECTA Historian

LEGACY LEADS ON Our first meeting of the 2014-2015 school year was honestly one of the best meetings I've ever had my two years of being a board member. We had record breaking attendance. I'm so proud of my board members for being able to get more people interested in joining! We worked really hard during the summer to plan out ideas and events that would help bring more people into joining Key Club, and I'm so happy we did! Seeing the looks of excitement and curiosity on our members' faces really made us proud of what we've done. We had so much fun meeting the members, playing ice breakers, and overall kicking off the new school year with a great start. In my opinion, the most rewarding thing about it was seeing all the new members (especially the freshmen) start opening up from their shell during the meeting. I could slowly see that they were getting used to the fact that cheering, being loud, and having fun was okay in Key Club. I was so excited to see them learn the How Do You Feel? cheer and slowly realize it was okay to be “weird�. These past few weeks, so many people have come up to me and told me how excited they were for the whole year and how they look forward to Key Club every week. This keeps me motivated to do whatever it takes to give my members the best Key Club experience ever. I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us, from RTC, Fall Rally, and everything else we have planned. Go Longhorns!

FRESH INTO KEY CLUB When my sister joined Key Club her freshman year, I would hear her stories of the events and fun times she had gotten to experience in Key Club. The whole concept of the club intrigued me, and I knew I wanted to know what all the fun was. Fast forward three years, I’m now at A-TECH, where I could finally join Key Club. To say I was stunned at the first meeting is to say the least. Although I had felt intimidated by how loud it was by the cheers that I have not yet learnt at the time, I was also amazed by the enthusiasm and excitement that filled the air as people filed in for the very first meeting. With old friends seeing each other and introducing new faces all around, Key Club felt so inviting. From that point on, I was very eager to learn all about Key Club and what it means to be a part of the Kiwanis family. As a freshman, I’m excited to learn all the cheers and prep for RTC. I’m ready to lend a helping hand to the community. I am also very excited to be a part of an amazing club. RTC is fast approaching, but I know with the amazing leadership and help, I know RTC will be an experience worth remembering. As for future events to come, I can’t wait to participate and help the community with anything it needs. I’m proud to say that I have joined Key Club!

5K RUN, DASH N’ SPLASH! On August 23, 2014, Red Dragon hosted the first annual Dash n’ Splash Family 5K Run and Epic Water Fight, this time at Craig Ranch Regional Park. 7am might have been quite early for an event, but it was worth the sleep loss! Though A-TECH only had a few members (like Daniel Lang, Justin White, and I) this time around, we got to hang with Valley Key Club to make up for it! Some volunteers were dispatched out to the water balloon filling area or park cleaning duty, and the rest of us stayed at the check-in table. I got put in charge of the pre-registered check-in, which was amazing! I helped distribute t-shirts. As more of the runners started arriving, we got busy! The Valley Key Clubbers and I did our best to distribute all the shirts quickly and efficiently. We had a wonderful system, and we were joking all the while. At 9am, the first runners began! I stayed at my booth until 11am. There were a couple food trucks, vending stalls, water guns filling stations, a giant water slide, and other miscellaneous booths scattered around the main “Epic Water Fight Arena.” Once free from my booth, I found A-TECH guarding the largest tub of water balloons that I’ve seen in my entire life. Kids were running around and squirting each other, the DJ seemed to play everyone’s favorite song, and everybody was having a great time! Guarding the tub proved difficult, as antsy kids and excited adults wanted to cool off on that hot morning. At high noon, everyone was armed and ready to begin. The official countdown began and people inched toward the water balloons anxiously. When the DJ yelled, “Zero!” all chaos broke loose. Despite us being volunteers, the Red Dragon crew had graciously allowed us to be part of the “Epic Water Fight” experience. We all got ceremoniously dunked into the large tubs as water streams, water balloons, and water grenades graced the sky. The fight lasted forty-five minutes, until all the water balloons were gone. After the fight ended, Craig Ranch Regional Park looked like the aftermath of a warzone. Everyone was muddy, tired, soaked, and breathing heavy, but we all had smiles on our faces. As the people began to vacate the park to shower, or just go recuperate, the volunteers went to work. Besides one minor mishap with a cart in the mud, emptying and cleaning all the water stations was smooth sailing. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay for the barbecue that Red Dragon hosted for the crew and volunteers afterwards, but Justin said, “It was a blast.” I’m definitely A-TECH Member looking forward to the second annual Dash n’ Splash!

READY FOR RTC? Hey Phoenixes! Get ready to throwback with this year’s Region Training Conference theme, “Throwback to the 90’s!” Dress to impress with SPIRIT GEAR! (See SPIRIT GEAR info.) For the newbies, RTC stands for Regional Training Conference, where D28 North, South and West join together to learn what Key Club and Kiwanis’s are all about! Throughout the day, clubs will be participating in workshops and little service events like making blankets. At the end of the day, every club participates in a spirit rally! This is where all the clubs get to show off their service spirit with their theme-related cheers. Make sure to be unison, loud and proud during spirit rally! Most importantly, don’t forget to have every member actively participating in EVERYTHING throughout the day, because we’ll be watching… I can’t wait to see what spirit D28 North has!
