Organizational Approach, is a series of publications that will allow you to know the journey of five students who are studying Organizational Psychology, at the Universidad de La Sabana, in the academic period 2021-2. Through the three volumes that make up this edition, the different works that make up the academic content will be shown, this will allow you to know the way in which students progressively develop different skills and knowledge that will allow them to develop in the organizational context, in this way you too can be part of these and we invite you to stay tuned to our publications.

WHAT IS THIS ISSUE ABOUT? ORGANIZATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

This third volume is composed of the activities carried out during the third term, developed between October 8th and November 17th, 2021. As a reference framework, during this term, It was based on the importance of human capital within organizations, from the management of people, recognizing the diversity and inclusion within organizations and the social impact of companies in their contexts.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) refers to practices and policies undertaken by corporations that are intended to have a positive influence on the world. The key idea behind CSR is for corporations to pursue other pro-social objectives, in addition to maximizing profits, CSR is addressed into 4 categories: environmental, philanthropic, ethical, and economic responsibility. To engage in CSR means that, in the ordinary course of business, a company is operating in ways that enhance society and the environment, instead of contributing negatively to them.

It is for this reason that for this activity a company had to be chosen and investigated about all the CSR initiatives that they have implemented, the way this has impacted the world and the way this is related to organizational psychology. For these reasons we chose The Walt Disney Company.

About the activity ...

In this activity, it was possible to show through the different points of Disney's CSR initiatives, we had the opportunity to understand in a more practical way how CSR objectives are developed and raised in an organization. For which different reports generated by the company since 2006 were used, different authors who have investigated on the subject and news and the website of The Walt Disney Company.

In this way, we were able to identify and understand the different reports of one of the largest entertainment companies in the world, which gives us a fairly realistic perspective of what a large company hopes to achieve with its CSR. So it is possible to strengthen skills such as group work, the search for information, the synthesis of the information found and good time management.

However, it should be noted that the CSR explored is that of a multinational and although it is an important aspiration to work in one, it is also important to know how a small or medium-sized company can develop its CSR and if this development would be different for the Colombian case. Therefore, as aspects to improve, the study of these initiatives in companies or companies with a direct impact on the country can be considered, together with the updating of information sources.

-Daniela PardoDo you know what Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is?

It refers to all those actions, projects, or initiatives that companies carry out in order to promote and ensure the well-being of the communities/people they reach and the contexts in which they develop or the environment at a general level -involved in the productive processes-, which allows the company to increase its value.

What CSR initiatives do you know?

I know of some initiatives such as those proposed by Alpina, which seek through their production processes to reduce their carbon footprint, changing packaging or the way they are made or recycled to achieve their goal of zero emissions, where everything that is generated can be recovered for reuse or proper disposal.

What is the scope of CSR? CSR seeks to take the practices of companies and organizations beyond their market, that is, providing benefits for people, both who are customers or users of these, and the communities close to these companies or who may benefit from some shape for these. Even through its practices reducing environmental impact, thus ensuring the well-being of more people.

Do you think CSR is a marketing move or a real need? Why? I believe that because of the way it is structured, it is a real need, however, this in turn favors the marketing of the company. This, since it allows companies to commit through their actions with the community, the context and the environment, but when a company generates these initiatives, it can also result in something that ends up advertising the company making more people recognize the organization.

What CSR initiatives do you know?

Google earned the Reputation Institute’s highest CSR 2018 score much in part due to their data centers using 50% less energy than others in the world. They also have committed over $1 billion to renewable energy projects and enable other businesses to reduce their environmental impact through services such as Gmail.

What is the scope of CSR? The CSR varies in each company but can have different approaches such as health and safety, environmental protection, staff welfare, customer welfare, supply-chin management, Ethical conduct or Engagement with social causes.

Do you think CSR is a marketing move or a real need? Why? I believe that if the management of the social responsibility of a company is well structured and focuses on a solution that can benefit many people then if it is real, I am sure that many of the organizations think about the contribution they will make to society, although there are also many that only propose social responsibility projects as a marketing strategy.

They are actions that organizations carry out to generate and promote care and well-being of the people who are part of their company or who may be related, including their clients and that also generate care for the environment, making its value increase in terms of be aware of the great impact that the organization has in different contexts and environments and reduce in great level the negative effects of it.

-May ConnollyDo you know what Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is?

Corporate social responsibility is a way of describing how companies try to measure and control their impact on society. This includes a company's contributions both negative and positive to the economy, environment and greater community. In other words, it is the contribution that organizations make to improve or reduce a problem that affects society.

What CSR initiatives do you know?

I know that alqueria was recently certified as company B by taking into account the great environmental impact that the organization generates and fights against the negative effects of that, through livestock and sustainable energy and alliances to generate awareness of good nutrition.

What is the scope of CSR? The CSR takes into account various dimensions that can change depending on the organization, however they are equally practical that companies can do from their productive and organizational work to improve the quality of life or well-being of the people involved and even the environment, of so that they can take into account the relationship and impact on

Do you think CSR is a marketing move or a real need? Why? In my opinion it is a real necessity because the organizations did not take into account the great impact that they could generate on their employees, clients or even on the environment and all these resources were being misused that would ultimately affect the entire population then At a time when climate change is causing great damage to everyone's health, it is necessary to create assumptions that allow restricting and limiting the negative effects of the productive practice of large and small organizations.

What is the scope of CSR? The CSR looks to improve some factors that the company can reach, in order to improve or take kare of some well being factors of the people, some factors can be to take care of the environment, generate more diversity inside the company or be able to do some charity if it is possible.

Do you think CSR is a marketing move or a real need? Why? I think CSR can be a marketing move, some companies may create some CSR goals and pretend to be looking for a way to accomplish those goals.

But in other way, the CSR can also be a need, if the company really sees that the creations of these CSR can bring with them some well-being to the society and therefore an improvement for their workers and customers.

CSR is how a company or an organization takes position towards the influences it has on society and the environment proximate to them. This is not only with people or communities outside the company but also with groups within or related to the organization. This responsibility implies the attention and care for the people that are directly or indirectly involved with the organizational climate.

What CSR initiatives do you know?

The little CSR initiatives I know about are basically the ones we treated in class. Other than these, a honduran company called IPSA (or Industrias Panavisión) has a small program where it takes care of waste and the implications it has on the environment. This is due to the company’s business of building and assembling office furniture made of wood and mostly iron.

-Juan D. RojasDo you know what Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is?

The corporate Social Responsibility are all the actions and programs that the diferentes companies have in order to insure and promote the different factors that may cause an improvement in the well being of the people that may be involved with the company. { What CSR initiatives do you know?

I know the CSR of Disney, who looks to improve the environment by reducing their carbon footprint, saving energy, using ecological friendly materials and so on.

Another initiative that I know about a company in Colombia who is called Mare tierra. That company has a really big CSR because they look to generate a really big impact in the textil area, using used clothes to create new fibers.

What is the scope of CSR? Involves mostly the mental and physical well-being of people. In a better stance, CSR provides a holistic involvement of social groups, communities, natural environment and many other organisms that make up the company and its surroundings. In my opinion, CSR aims to be in fair terms with the country, protecting its image and clientele.

Do you think CSR is a marketing move or a real need? Why? I personally think that CSR is both a marketing strategy and a need. It all depends on the type of market or business the company dedicates to, making CSR more a need or a strategy to promote their merchandise and business to the world or the country. Parting from another explanation, Disney for example, might not quite have an urgent need to implement CSR, since for example, the city might be clean, tourists tend to frequent the place, the business doesn’t produce any natural or human damage. But Disney does have the need and urge to promote themselves as an entertaining company, and the advertising of CSR might just be the perfect move to catch new clients.

HOW TO RESPOND TO PSYCHOSOCIAL RISKS AT WORK IN COLOMBIA? November 1st, 2021 Psychosocial risk factors are considered as those characteristics and conditions within the job that can affect the health of employees through psychological and physiological mechanisms, for example in the job, the light and temperature can affect the health lt and performance of each employee but also it has consider the low Human Resources, the high demand of work or short time to a lot of task can affect the wellbeing of the employees and organization.

During this activity, the psychosocial risks that can occur at work and the most common ones were analyzed and understood through the II National Survey of Occupational Health and Safety Conditions in the general risk system and in the same way, we were known some protocols that the Colombian Ministry of Labor has carried out to prevent or reduce the negative effects that may be the result of risks in the workplace, such as acute stress, PTSD, grief management, among others. In that, each student focused on one protocol to address their target population, scope, intervention proposals and based on this a strategy or initiative was proposed that allows addressing the same problem in a different way.

resources were used such as the II National Survey of Occupational Health and Safety Conditions in the general risk system, the Guidelines and protocols for the promotion and intervention of psychosocial factors and their effects on the working population purpose

in

Colombia, class readings and scientific resources that would allow us to know and understand more in depth the chosen problem and the different initiatives and interventions that can be derived from it.

By writing this report, I was able to continue developing my writing, drafting, synthesis and innovation skills, since in order to comply with the activity it was important to be able to address all the information of the protocol in an appropriate way, so that it was possible to make a new proposal that starts of the information reflected in the two documents and at the same time was novel, pertinent and possible.

What I can improve in regards to this activity is the understanding I had of the analyzed survey, since sometimes clear results were not evident, so my interpretation of these could be wrong or even superficial in some cases, in addition to how Innovative was my proposal, since I consider that it is an adequate intervention proposal to respond to the problem, but it still leaves very open to the decision of the companies the way in which they can approach the prevention and reduction of risks on the Burnout Syndrome.

I consider that making the report helped me to have a better understanding about everything that involves psychological risks at work both in the Colombian context and in the whole world, since it is a factor that influences the performance of the employees of an organization.

On the other hand, this activity helped me improve my writing and reading skills, because I had to make use of all those skills to present a good work. in addition to the great research that was necessary to do to find the necessary information.

In my opinion, with this report I further developed my analytical and cohesion skills as we had to understand in the best way the survey carried out by the Ministry of Labor and also the specific protocol of occupational risk, but also to be able to take that into a more context applied where we could propose our own initiative. In addition, with these types of activities, my search, argumentation and creativity skills are increasingly reinforced because it was not only to say a topic, propose something and now, but to justify from a good frame of reference why the topic had been chosen and why the strategy that had been raised could be effective, building on previous initiatives that could be found. In this case I feel that there are not many aspects to improve, other than knowing how to specify the ideas because on several occasions it was extended to the details and could lose the reader.

This activity represented an opportunity to better understand the protocols and regulations regarding occupational safety in the Colombian context, showing us the various protocols for all situations that may arise, some for situations that have not even crossed my mind.

Additionally, it represents an opportunity to improve the writing and research process, seeking various sources to support the points to be discussed and creating coherence and cohesion throughout the text.

The realization of this report, being from a foreign country, helped me learn mostly the Colombian context towards the psychosocial risks that could be presented at work. I personally take these matters with delicacy and with thorough study since it's a matter that can affect each person individually and further affect the company or the employee’s family.

Aside from that, writing and organizing my ideas into paper made me improve and work out and develop my English even more. I tend to welcome these essays or reports in manners of expanding my experience portraying my ideas in the english language. The whole class this semester was a challenge by writing essays frequently, and this increased my interest in not losing my English writing and comprehension skills.

Do you think that psychosocial risk at work is relevant to the Colombian context? Why? Yes, because in Colombia, many times employees are simply seen in terms of what they do or not do, rather than as people who can be affected by a multiplicity of factors, so recognizing psychosocial risks at work will allow companies respond adequately to the needs that may arise on the part of its employees and in this way even generate a better work environment and thus a better performance on the part of the employees.

What aspects do involve psychosocial risk at work?

These include factors as tangible and specific as the workplace, its lighting, space, temperature and general conditions of the physical space. But at the same time, more personal perceptions about work such as workload, work schedules, their work in itself -their responsibilities or tasks- which can vary from person to person, but obviously can affect the way a person does his job and it can have consequences on them and their outcomes.

Why is it relevant to evaluate the psychosocial risk in organizations?

It is important because by evaluating these risks, the company can give a correct and adequate response to the needs of the employees, which reduces the possibility of occupational accidents, desertion, lack of motivation and other factors that generally represent the results. generated by employees, so evaluating these and taking measures in this regard encourages employees' commitment to their work, which in turn improves the work environment.

What is the importance of work-life balance to reduce psychosocial risks?

This is very important since the person as a whole must be recognized, although the person spends most of his time at work, he also has a life outside of it, and these two affect each other, so If the companies also recognize the personal life of the person such as their family, their children, their extra-work activities, adjustments can be generated at work that do not affect the employee, such as their working hours, the permits that they require or even situations that affect their performance momentarily, which will reduce the stress that work can generate for the person.

Do you think that psychosocial risk at work is relevant to the Colombian context? Why? Yes, because in Colombia many times the employees remain in a vision of their functional role in the company and now, but they are not seen from a vision that allows considering the possible risks that they may have even more now in a pandemic that they are not has ensured employees a comfortable and adequate environment in their homes to work from there and generate more motivation and health for workers.

What aspects do involve psychosocial risk at work?

Psychosocial risks are framed in different dimensions such as physical, cognitive and psychological with aspects for example of the workspace such as temperature, space, light, aromas, comfort, as well as their schedules, their workloads, the support they can receive, the relationship with their peers, or the requirement of techniques that exceed their capabilities.

Different factors that influence the employee's performance and the general results of the company in the same way.

Why is it relevant to evaluate the psychosocial risk in organizations?

It is important because this way organizations can prevent future negative consequences within the company, ensure the well-being of all its members and improve their results, taking into account that everything affects the performance of employees and it is possible that the company adapts to the needs specific to employees so that they too feel recognized,

As it has been mentioned all the contexts of a person's life affect their performance among them, it should be taken into account that an employee spends a large part of his life or his days during working hours fulfilling their respective functions within the company, However, it does not mean that everything in their life revolves around their work, they also have a personal life (family-social) outside the company that requires other responsibilities and times, so that a good balance between all these areas is guaranteed. the person will have a well-being and a better performance in them and will not have to be negatively influenced by the pressures that each one can generate.

Do you think that psychosocial risk at work is relevant to the Colombian context? Why? Yes, I think the psychological risk at work is very relevant in any context and in any country. The recognition of these kinds of risks can allow companies to develop some prevention programs for those risks and be able to help their employees at any moment.

What aspects do involve psychosocial risk at work?

The psychosocial risk at work involves all the factors that may be involved in the security of the employee. These factors can be the workload, the social environment in the company, the type of work, motivation or physical factors like space, light, temperature.

Why is it relevant to evaluate the psychosocial risk in organizations?

This is important because the companies can generate some strategies in order to afront those kinds of risks, generating some strategies and programs to prevent and help their workers.

What is the importance of work-life balance to reduce psychosocial risks?

It is important that workers have some time away from work in order to avoid excessive workloads or work fatigue caused by long hours dedicated exclusively to work. Additionally, the development of a healthy social life will be a motivator for better performance and prevention of certain psychological risks.

Do you think that psychosocial risk at work is relevant to the Colombian context? Why? It is very important, both in the Colombian context and in the rest of the world, since the performance of employees can be affected by different causes and since work is one of the important dimensions in a person's life, it is necessary that companies evaluate the psychological risk at work to prevent alterations such as burnout or any other psychological affectation and, on the contrary, provide employees with a safe environment that cares about their well-being.

What aspects do involve psychosocial risk at work?

Within the psychological risk there are various aspects that are related to everything that can influence the performance of a person within a company, such as: Excessive workloads, conflicting demands and lack of role clarity, lack of involvement in making decisions that affect the worker and lack of influence over the way the job is done, poorly managed organizational change, job insecurity, ineffective communication, lack of support from management or colleagues psychological and sexual harassment and issues related to the workplace: space, illumination and workforce.

Why is it relevant to evaluate the psychosocial risk in organizations?

Psychological risk at work is an issue that must be taken into account because it is related to factors that influence the wellbeing of employees. In additionWhen employees are psychologically protected, they demonstrate greater job satisfaction, enhanced team learning behavior and improved performance. Employees are more likely to speak up and become involved.

What is the importance of work-life balance to reduce psychosocial risks?

Work is a very important dimension in a person's life, however it is not their entire life and it is important that this is taken into account by both employees and companies, since employees must carry out other activities that important for this such as spending time with your family, having vacations, exercising and many other activities that contribute to the well-being of employees. This is why it is important that companies take this into account when they design their policies and schedules, because a balance between all dimensions of the employees' lives reduces the psychological risk at work.

Do you think that psychosocial risk at work is relevant to the Colombian context? Why? I personally think that psychosocial risk is and will be a prevalent topic in Colombia. This is having in mind the hard working culture Colombians have towards their employment or business. Other than this, colombian companies and entrepreneurships always have space to grow and expand the laboral experience with many businesses, which means also the expansion of politics and rules to protect the colombian worker in any context they expose themselves to while working.

What aspects do involve psychosocial risk at work?

Psychosocial risk mainly involves physical, mental or psychological, and social risks. An employee might face any inconvenience with these dimensions within work, and in a latter aspect, affect its potential or performance towards its employment. Other than this, the company must know and study its employees’ state of life and social factors.

Why is it relevant to evaluate the psychosocial risk in organizations?

Evaluating psychosocial risk within an organization always enriches the overall potential of the company and also the selfperspective and knowledge towards and within the organization’s employees. The priority of evaluating these risks that employees might undergo, might have a latter effect on the company’s performance and functioning overall. These evaluations could also promote company prestige within the community by luring new applicants to be interested in working with the organization.

What is the importance of work-life balance to reduce psychosocial risks?

One must balance and divide professional chores from personal chores, so at the end an employee could work stress-free. This could precisely be the key to maintaining a great work performance. Having a balance between life, family, work or even studies, might compensate for the way the company also manages to work automatically and not lag behind due dates. This not only compensates the company but mainly the employee since dividing each priority implicates the order and organized task realization.
