Design research + Product

64% of senior citizens reaching 80 years of age suffer from hearing loss. This added to the high levels of noise pollution in Lima make it impossible for the elderly to communicate which can lead to depression and other emotional problems. Actual solutions include acoustic panels that tend to be for public spaces, having an intrusive aesthetic and if not, they are luxury designs which are too expensive.

State of the art:

OIRA combines sound absorption modules with the possibility to add picture frames in order to integrate the system to the elderly’s home. The system is connected with O’Rings that give the user the possibility to rearrange it to adapt different spaces.

Made with Ezobord’s sound absorbing material, acrylic and PET plastic. The kit contains 13 modules and 4 photoframes. It costs 146$, making it an accessible option without loosing the non-invasive aesthetic.

PERFECT PLACE

Furniture Design + Fabrication

Based on the book “The Little Prince” that is all about encouraging adults to connect with their inner child and never loose their creativity and sense of wonder.

In a key moment, the little prince asks the pilot to draw him a sheep, and after a few unsuccesful attempts that did not meet the prince’s standards, the pilot draws a box, and tells the prince that the sheep is inside, which the prince accepts and adores. This chair tries to portray that, as there is no perfect place for everyone, but it gives you the tools to create your own special space. It suggests that being imaginative is essential and encourages readers to enjoy life without taking it too seriously.
