"Weight"

Performance piece (2023)

(Recorded with a phone for the purpose of documentation)

For this piece, my focus centered on representing the physical symptoms of anxiety. I wanted to show how dealing with daily anxious thoughts can later affect our physical health, how every thought adds to the amount of weight we carry each day.

The performance was originally inspired by my own experiencesgrowing up in a country divided by the two main political ideologicalgroups in our population. My aim was to criticize the disputes of theseideological parties, showing the harmful consequences that they haveon the circumstances theyinitially wantedtosolve.

Video Performance

I feel like the interesting aspect of this piece is that even though thetitlesuggests one interpretation, I can still perceive many othermeanings. Its current title comes from the piece being a visualrepresentation of the inner workings of my brain, showing how I cometo an understanding of new concepts and how theseall connect toeach other to come to a more complete sense of my surroundings.

Thispiece is still a work in progress since the editing process has taken alongtimetocompleteandperfect.
