Pets Like Trips to Their Cabana! Possessing a life-long passion and love for animals, Wendee Durham decided last year to walk away from a successful career, from behind a computer, and do her own thing with business partner Suzette Johnson. Wendee had noticed that Forest area daycare, grooming and boarding businesses had become “pricey” and crowded, including a place she had been taking her dog. She already knew Suzette, an experienced groomer, so one thing led to another. With the help of Wendee’s husband Lee Durham (whose interior building skills are on display throughout the Cabana), they opened Paws N’ Play Pet Cabana, located in the large house between Curtains, Blinds & Bath and the Briarwood Shopping Center. The owners are proud of the cheerful and multi-colored
3,000 sq. ft. of Guest bins, which includes accommodations for cats. There is also a nice, enclosed backyard where their Guests can hang-out. There are open runs inside, and the dogs are allowed to roam as they please. Suzette has about 10 years of grooming experience, all around the Lynchburg area. Wendee is in charge of the boarding and day care, which can be half or full day, all week and/or weekends. Another unique aspect of Paws N’ Play is the overnight presence of a staff member, who is available for any emergencies. Most pet kennels leave their pets unattended during the night. If you are looking for a new and exciting environment for your dog or cat, you can call ahead to set-up a time to take over your pet for a no obligation “meet and greet” tour of the property. Estates Revisited Grows to Forest A successful Downtown Lynchburg business has opened a second location in Forest. Owned and managed by Joanne Newcomb and Art Dodd, Estates Revisited will buy your furniture and accessories you no longer want, and/or possibly sell you something you need for redecorating or furnishing a new space. Estates Revisited will purchase an entire household or just select items, whichever the owner prefers. In turn they will display all of the items for sale at both of their locations. They opened their Downtown Lynchburg location (on Main St. near the Community Market) two years ago, but soon realized they needed more space. Joanne does the bookkeeping and manages the Forest store, while Art handles the buying and manages the Main St. location. Often families are downsizing and planning a move to senior housing. Other times estates must be settled or families are relocating. Many of their clients don’t want to deal with the issue of consolidating items that once fit into their much-larger home.
“We try selling everything at the stores first,” Art says. “If there isn’t a market for the price we have set, we try selling it on eBay. We’re not always trying to get top-dollar; we just want to sell our things.” When items are not saleable, Estates Unlimited will find suitable charities willing to take articles as donations from their clients. See the ad below to make an appointment for the buyer, Art Dodd, to come to your home and look at the items you would like to sell. No obligation or charge. Art will contact you with a purchase price for the items you are selling. If acceptable, you can make an appointment for their movers to efficiently pack and remove the items. The original showroom, located at 1324 Grandin Rd. was 2,500 square feet. Since 1995, Reid’s has grown to a 10,200 square foot showroom and a 6,100 square foot warehouse. A second location opened in Forest Square, next to the Forest post office, in the late summer of 2015.

Reid’s Fine Furnishings Opens Forest Location Reid’s Fine Furnishings recently celebrated the twentieth anniversary of their store opening in Grandin Village, Roanoke. Reid’s was founded in 1995 by owners Bill Waide and Andrea Reid Waide, who had been dreaming of opening their own furniture business.

News & Notes Trio Brick Oven Eatery Opens Trio Brick Oven Eatery opened in May of 2015. Approximately 135 people can be seated, including at a bar with TVs that continually air sports and news. The name Trio was chosen because of the three partners and the three groups of food featured; gourmet pizza, gourmet burgers, and wings. Along with the food there are 20 craft beers offered on tap. Forest Farmers Market Plans For the Holidays & 2016 The final Holiday market will be Dec. 12 (one was already held Nov. 21) at the Forest Recreation Center 1088 Village Road, Forest Va. and will be from 8am to noon. The following products will be available: Winter vegetables, which may include; greens, root vegetables, cold hearty produce along with beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and bison, eggs (duck, chicken,), fish, artisan breads, jams, jellies, honey, cheese, coffee, Brunswick Stew,kettle corn along with a wide variety of artisan crafts.
