- 2012 by the Numbers Training in Dance and Arts Administration • Dance Place’s on-site adult and children’s classes served 400 students weekly in a variety of disciplines including modern, jazz, hip-hop, African and Salsa. • OutReach classes taught by professional dancers served 400 students at 15 local schools and community centers. • Dance Place trained and mentored 22 future arts administrators, teachers, theater technicians and dancers through our Intern program.
Energizers Youth Enrichment Programs Dance Place first created the Energizers program when we moved into our permanent home in Brookland in 1986, responding to the needs of local young people with in-depth creative education, job training, life skills and arts experiences. These programs included:
KIDS ON THE MOVE RECITAL
• Energizers Afterschool Program provided 630 hours of academic tutoring, healthy snacks, gardening skills, life skills and arts education with a 5:1 student to teacher ratio.
Dance Place provided our adult and child students—from professional level to beginners-- with over $98,000 worth of scholarships to participate in our dance classes for free or at low cost.
• Energizers Junior Staff served 40 teenagers with a rigorous selfdevelopment curriculum integrating arts electives, job training, entrepreneurialism and life skills. • Energizers Creative Arts Camp provided over 280 hours of dance classes, academic enrichment, field trips and life skills to 50 young people from our neighborhood ages 5-19, culminating in 2 sold-out Camp Shows. 100% of our campers were on full scholarship this year.
