BLACK DANCE MINISTRY HISTORY! The Dance Ministry Magazine is part of a strategic campaign to showcase Black dance and Mime through month of March. Did you know that the Black Arts Movement was a Black nationalism movement that focused on music, literature, drama, and the visual arts made up of Black artists and intellectuals.

What is black history and why is it important?

February is Black History Month. This month-long observance in the US and Canada is a chance to celebrate Black achievement and provide a fresh reminder to take stock of where systemic racism persists and give visibility to the people and organizations creating change.

Introducing Rekesha Pittman (The “Midwife”)

Rekesha Pittman has been uniquely called by God to liberate His people.

Rekesha began dance ministry in the year 2000 as part of a Resurrection Sunday celebration.

Immediately after, she co-founded Envision Worship Dancers in Long Beach, California.

As a natural teacher and trainer, she saw the need for worship arts education in biblical studies and garments. She hosted her initial dance conference, “Rain,” in 2003 in Pasadena, California to a standing-room-only crowd.

Expanding on the calling to train, Rekesha founded Rain Rein Reign Ministries in 2004, which included workshops, “Company Keepers,” an online monthly newsletter, and mentorship of local dance ministries. She became highly requested as a speaker and presenter at dance conferences nationally and internationally.

Rekesha continued hosting annual dance conferences after relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada.

In 2007, “24/7 365: Eternal Worship” launched her first international dance conference and included a worship in dance concert on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip.

Sensing the need for greater excellence in movement ministry, Rekesha launched Reign Dance Company in 2009.

As a professional Christian dance company, the group’s impact exploded quickly as RDC danced for major Gospel events throughout the Las Vegas community, at national dance conferences, was requested for prison ministry, and presented annual theatrical dance concerts to packed houses.

In 2011, Rekesha became an ordained Pastor. That same year, Reign Dance Company traveled to South Africa as worship arts missionaries, providing dance workshops in Johannesburg, Soweto, and Cape Town. RDC also traveled to the Bahamas in 2013 for ministry in dance.

Rekesha Pittman published “Company Keepers: Dance Ministry Daily” (2010) a 365-day devotional for dance ministers. After receiving several requests, she began hosting book publishing workshops for emerging authors.

Since then, she has released multiple books in the worship arts including, “For This Cause, I Bow My Knees: A Moving Testament” (2011), “Dance Leaders Advance” (2013), “Training to Reign” (with Reign Dance Company – 2014), “7 Steps to a Divine Dance Company” (2015).

She relocated to Texas in 2015 and continued training authors through the publishing process.

Rekesha is called “The Midwife” because she has helped visionaries worldwide to launch both books and businesses. An author of 15 books, she currently owns Get Write Publishing in Frisco, Texas. As a Global Publishing Strategist, Rekesha has personally coached over 500 authors to independently publish bookstore-quality books worldwide.

Her diverse range of clientele includes entrepreneurs, organizational leaders, motivational speakers, ministry leaders, teachers, and everyday people with a story to share.
