What is holistic wellness?
A tried and true concept that is gaining recognition.
Is Reiki for me?
When we care for ourselves, we are caring for others
Life is truly a balancing act, how well are you doing?
Epionce skincare line - products developed to restore and renew your skin.
I was first introduced to the concept of holistic wellness some 30 years ago. The idea that as a nurse I was to care for the whole person, taking into account more than the physical body when addressing illness, healing and preventative care, quickly became ingrained into my nursing practice. It felt intuitive and came natural to me From that moment on I have believed in the power of holistic care and wellness And yet within the institution of Western medicine, the conceptual practice of holistic care is missing You may find pockets of practitioners that will address the whole personbody, mind and spirit - but in my experience, personally and professionally, they are far and few between
To help and empower others to find their optimum wellness, and teach people to see themselves as a whole person as been my life's passion. I have sought out higher education, advanced certifications, conducted my own research and in doing so my determination in helping others to find their wholeness has continued to grow Why? Because the more I learn, the more I believe it is the key to getting well and staying well
The beauty and power of our interconnectedness has the potential to heal and transform. Let's tap into that!
I became frustrated with the healthcare system early on when I realized little was done to prevent illness and become increasingly frustrated as I watched patient care not address the "whole" person; not empower the individual to control of their health and well-being
As an advocate for holistic health I believe that knowledge is a power that must not be taken for granted. To find our optimum wellness we must all learn and grow from within while seeking a better understanding of how our environment, the food we eat, our ability to find calm, and so much more can affect our body's ability to be well Here within My-Magazine, I will provide a wide array of topics covering body, mind and spirit to inspire, provoke thought, encourage and of course empower
Where in your life do you desire a deeper understanding of the connection between body, mind and spirit?
What steps can you take to strengthen your body, mind, spirit connection?
The new year is a time of contemplation and reflection of all that we have lived through, our gratitude for all that we have, and the sorrow for which we have lost Creating an altar space is a beautiful way to honor life while providing a place for stillness and connection
In Everyday Spiritual Practice: Simple Pathways for Enriching your Life Rev Johanna Nichol says that whether we do so intentionally or not, each of us creates an environment in our home that nurtures us through our senses sight, sound, touch, taste, and scent. An altar can nurture you through your senses, add meaning and beauty to your life, remind you that the holy is present wherever we call home
She goes on to say that your home altar should reflect your personal spiritual story It doesn't matter whether it consists of a candle, a bell, and a statue of Buddha on a piece of cloth, or a bowl of sea glass and a photo on linen crocheted by your grandmother. It doesn't matter if you pay attention to the directions or just gather your own precious objects and mementos
What is important is who you are in the presence of your personal altar For there, you have created a place where you are invited to recognize the sacredness of life, where you are invited to "wake up!" and be whole

We are each on our own unique journey. Our experiences, where we live, the families who raised us, and our DNA are some of the very things that help to create the person we are
Because of this, no two paths are identical This is the absolute beauty of being true to our own individuality.
As you journey along your path continually seek your true north, your true purpose, and live it fully with gratitude and self-love
What exactly is Reiki (pronounced Ray-kee)? Let's chat about this beautiful energy healing practice a bit
Reiki Energy Healing has become more main stream in the United States over the recent years as the value of holistic medicine is slowly but surely being more widely accepted Rei means universal and ki, also written as qi in Chinese medicine, means energy; Reiki = universal energy This universal energy flows through and around our entire body and is replenished from the air we breath and the food we eat This is the very basis of many Asian practices such as Qi Gong, Acupuncture and more When the ki superhighways are flowing smoothly, your entire body is running optimally and vitally, and when the energy is blocked the body will begin to let you know
Bronwyn Ayla LAc"For as long as we have been sentient beings, it is likely we have used our hands to heal."
The training that Reiki practitioners receive varies widely. If you are seeking Reiki treatment it is important for you to know where the practitioner received their training Reiki healers are to be trained by Reiki Masters There are three levels of Reiki Training with Master being the third The practitioner's lineage is also very important and brings legitimacy to their practice. Reiki lineage refers to the transferring of knowledge and attunements whose training lineage can be traced to Reiki's origin, Mika Usui
Because Reiki is not a licensed practice doing a little bit of homework when seeking out a practitioner will assure you that your Reiki practitioner has been trained properly providing you the best possible experience
Your first meeting with the Reiki practitioner should include a consultation to learn the type of healing you are seeking, if you have previously had a Reiki session, your wellness goals etc Sessions are usually 60-90 minutes long
Reiki is performed with the practitioner placing her or his hands gently upon your body allowing for transfer of energy through meridians, or channels within the body However, the recipient has the option of choosing "floating-hands" as an alternative
Most Reiki practitioners are in touch with their own intuitive abilities and will utilize them as they conduct a session It is not uncommon to require a series of sessions to work through the energy blockages and then to continue with regular "maintenance" visits
I received my extensive Reiki training from Bronwyn Ayla LAc. The symbiotic relationship we nurture within our natural environment is vital for our wellbeing.
Experience freedom from within.
Break free from the molded expectations that society places on you Listen to your inner voice, seek wholeness, know that you have control over your body and your energy.
Sleep is restorative It is the time that our body literally resets Your body must progress through the various stages of sleep to allow for this restoration to occur. For example we need about 90 minutes of REM sleep for cellular regeneration, cognitive restoration, memory allocation, and memory retention. Avoid late night meals, alcohol and screen time; all of which negatively impact REM sleep
Water is vital to our body's functioning Not only does it Regulate our body temperature it moistens tissues in the eyes, nose and mouth, protects body organs and tissues and carries nutrients and oxygen to our cells. Joints are lubricated and the burden on our kidneys and liver or lessoned as they flush out waste. Vital minerals and nutrients are made accessible to your body by drinking water.
Stress, a word used to describe a wide variety of feelings, emotions and situations The stress that we live and experience has a very real impact on our body's ability to achieve and or maintain wellness Stress has a cascading effect, meaning that it leads to a plethora of unhealthy outcomes causing our physical and emotional body to be adversely affected. To de-stress is to provide your body, mind and spirit with an opportunity to reset into healthy balance.
Balance is a practice that must be intentional. Here are a few key tips to help you achieve life balance.
This will look different for everyone. Whether you are a person who makes lists, uses a calendar, sets daily goals, or is more free flowing, it is important to have a good idea of what your day holds Learn what works for you, what fits your personality type To what degree of planning makes you feel the best about your day?
By breaking up your daily tasks with time to breathe and reset you will increase your function capacity throughout your day by improving your memory and your ability to maintain thoughtful decision making in difficult situations When we can be in control of our day, we are in control of our health.
It is acceptable to say no thank-you, or take a raincheck. Learning to know your capacity for social interaction takes reflection on the type of personality you are. Do you gain energy in crowds or do they drain you? Do you prefer intimate gatherings over large parties? Our personal energy can be positively and negatively impacted by others What company do you keep that makes you feel really good about yourself? Creating healthy boundaries become part of your ability be in balance
Sunshine, moonlight, and fresh air! Did you know that it is scientifically proven that being outside in nature is relaxing, reduces our stress and cortisol levels, relieves muscle tension and decrease our heart rates. All healthy attributes that decrease the risk for heart disease. Yes, get outside, breathe, look around and experience the natural environment and all it offers, it is good for your body, mind and spirit
By creating a ritual to close your day you are able to develop a routine that tells your brain I am preparing for a restful and restorative night's sleep Release your worries, find gratitude for your day and all that you offered it This ritual may include reading, prayer, bathing, skincare, reflection. It is up to you. Find what works, what feels right and mark the end of your day.
How many times have you heard this, "Don't be too hard on yourself". Easier said than done for some to be sure. But the goal here is to let go of self-criticism and self-judgment We will always fail to live up to someone's expectations, or our own This is where you need to let go and know you are human, and though we are capable of doing great and wonderful things, we are not perfect
be too hard on yourself
