The OctoFrost™ IQF tunnel freezer – a simple, yet functional design The OctoFrost™ IQF tunnel freezer is the most modern IQF freezer on the market, representing the optimal solution for many frozen food processors to obtain high quality IQF products that can be sold at premium prices. The OctoFrost™ IQF tunnel freezer is simple in design but advanced in function. Its main components are the fan motors, the frequency converters (VSD), the fans, the bed drive with bedplates, the snow removal system (SRS), the control panel and the lateral door opener drive. Fan motors The fan motors are basically standard motors that have been customized by OctoFrost to adapt to the conditions inside an IQF tunnel freezer. The unique automatic anti-condensation system keeps the motors dry and prevent the formation of internal condensation, which occurs frequently inside traditional freezers. Fans The fans, produced by Norenco, are completely interchangeable and exposed to very limited or no wear. In order to make sure that there is no physical damage, according to the IQF freezer manual, routine check-ups are made on a regular basis. Frequency Converters (VSD) The Frequency Converters, manufactured by Schneider, present no moving parts and no wear. The MTBFs (Mean Time Between Failures) proved to be very long, meaning that there is no need to change the frequency converters during the lifetime of the OctoFrost™ IQF tunnel freezer. Bed drive The bed drive’s design is rigid, driven by a standard SEW geared motor. Spare gears are easy to find, being available worldwide, but it is recommended to have one spare drive in stock. Thanks to the OctoFrost™ IQF tunnel freezer unique automatic anti-condensation system, the motor is kept dry, while the bearings resist in the cold conditions of an IQF freezer. According to the preventive maintenance program in the IQF freezer manual, piston ends must be lubricated periodically. Bed plates The bedplates are free from wear, due to the fluidization air that lifts the products and prevents mechanical contact. The first OctoFrost™ IQF tunnel freezer has now more than 30.000 hours of operation and still, no wear has been detected.
