Charles Atwood Kofoid (1865-1947) was one of UC Berkeley’s most prominent faculty members in the first half of the twentieth century. His lifelong enthusiasm for book-collecting resulted in an invaluable 1947 gift to the Library which greatly enhanced the growing collections in the biological sciences, as well as in art, Japanese materials, the history of science and other areas. continued on page 3
