Marbury’s association with Xavier University began during his high school years in NewYork City.As a highly touted recruit, he had the opportunity to play for numerous powerhouse programs. However, Marbury ultimately chose Xavier due to its strong academic reputation and the guidance of head coach Skip Prosser. During his two seasons with the Musketeers, Marbury led the team to back-to-back NCAATournament appearances. He was named a FirstTeamAll-American in 1996 and Big East Player of theYear in 1997. Marbury’s jersey number, 3, has since been retired by Xavier University in honor of his contributions.
