Help Wanted Recently, we chose five scholarship winners for the DSG Education Connection Fund (you can find out more at www.dsgfund.com). These scholarships go to young people who are looking to get into the trade industries. I remember when we set this fund up a few years back. The economy was gasping for air, and the last thing anybody wanted to talk about was getting more young people into the applicant pool. But numbers rarely lie, and all the stats pointed to a day when we would simply not have enough qualified electricians, plumbers, HVAC/R techs and utility workers to go around.

Programs like the DSG Education Connection Fund are a start, but we need to do more. We need a grassroots movement. On the one hand, encourage the young people in your life to consider the trades. On the other hand, take a hard look at the compensation and benefits you are offering your people. No one will want these jobs if they aren't good jobs.
