The Dairy Science Club at Iowa State University is delighted to introduce the 3rd annual Cardinal and Gold Classic. In our first year, we had the opportunity to sell 35 heifers and 70 embryos for the Iowa State University Dairy Farm. This year, we are excited to announce the sale will be returning in consignment form, featuring live lots and embryos from Iowa and the surrounding states.

Iowa State University is one of the few universities in the nation that still has a Dairy Science major, and having the opportunity to grow skills and knowledge from putting on this sale is extremely valuable. With nationally-competitive Dairy Challenge and Dairy Judging teams, a wide range of activities available through the Dairy Science Club, the DairyCy Student-Managed Herd, valuable dairy research opportunities, and the ISU Dairy Farm, students are engaged in the dairy industry from every angle. We want to sincerely thank our advisors, professors, farm and university staff, alumni, industry professionals, friends, and family for their support.

Meet the Chairs

L to R: Anne, Madi, Irene, and Regan

Irene Nielsen is a junior at studying Dairy Science,

Agricultural Communications, and International Agriculture from Michigan. After graduation, she plans to work in calf health.

Regan Kramer is a junior at Iowa State University in Agriculture Studies and International Agriculture. She grew up on a registered Jersey and Holstein farm and has been involved in the industry in many aspects. After graduation, she plans to work in public outreach for dairy producers and raise cattle of her own.

Anne Simpson is a sophomore studying Animal Science.

She has grown up showing dairy in her home state of Minnesota.

In the future, she plans on attending graduate school to earn a Ph.D. in ruminant animal nutrition.

Liz Plunkett is a senior in Dairy Science with plans to attend

graduate school at The Ohio State University studying Lactation Physiology upon graduation in May. She grew up working on a dairy farm in high school and plans to continue developing research in the dairy industry.

Madi Palmer is a senior studying Animal Science with a Dairy

Cattle Production Management certificate and a minor in Spanish.

Madi grew up as the fourth generation of her family’s dairy farm near Waukon, Iowa, before the herd was dispersed in October 2022. After graduation, she plans to enter the industry as a dairy nutrition consultant.
