CONWAY — When will winter kick in? With the arrival of the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere at 12:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time Dec. 22, the talk among snowsports enthusiasts and weather buffs is: With Christmas nearly here, where's the snow? Tom Hawley of the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, believes the jury on the winter season's prospects is still out. “Because I don't see any big storms over the next 10 to 14 days, although there is a chance of light snow Friday, if I were a betting man, I would say we probably will see below normal snowfall for the season, with normal or slightly above normal temperatures for the season.” said Hawley Wednesday, a day that saw freezing rain and hazardous driving conditions.
