North Country business leaders Gorham man to serve six months for peeping buy Balsams Grand Resort Bob Hookway, Union Leader DIXVILLE NOTCH - Balsams View, LLC, a partnership of New Hampshire North Country business leaders, Daniel Dagesse and Daniel Herbert, Jr., has purchased the Balsams Grand Resort and Hotel from the Tillotson Corporation for $2.3 million. Hebert and Dagesse have been interested in preserving the landmark hotel for more than a year, and made a new offer in recent weeks that met Tillotson’s criteria. “We care deeply about restoring the Balsams
Grand Resort Hotel to its full glory as a worldclass destination resort and seeing it thrive for decades to come,” said Daniel Hebert. “We want to provide a stable operation that we can all be proud of.” It is anticipated that extensive renovations to the Balsams will take approximately 18 months. Hebert said the first step is to winterize the hotel and decommission the biomass plant. Architects and engineers will then evaluate the property and formulate a renovation see BALSAMS page 9
Forest Society to conserve bulk of Balsams land BY MELISSA GRIMA THE BERLIN DAILY SUN
DIXVILLE NOTCH — The Dec. 6 sale of the Balsams Resort in Dixville Notch, brought with it not only new owners for the resort, but a new plan to conserve the bulk of the land owned by the resort. The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (SPNHF) announced yesterday that they have signed a purchase and sales agreement, to protect 5,800 acres of the Balsams’ approximately 7,000 acres through
the use of conservation easements. According to Jack Savage, VP for Communications/ Outreach at the SPNHF, the agreement was signed with the Tillotson Corporation after they conveyed the property with conservation restrictions to businessmen Dan Dagesse and Dan Hebert. In order to complete the transaction, however, Savage said the SPNHF will need to raise the cost of the purchase of the easements, which came in at $850,000. see CONSERVE page 9
