Saturday, October 1 Iowa vs. Michigan Kinnick Stadium

Iowa and Michigan will collide for the first time since the 2021 Big Ten Championship Game.

PREGAME
The Daily Iowan RAUCOUS
REMATCH

IOWA +10.5

This is a risky proposition, but Iowa’s defense is by far the best Michigan has faced this season. The Wolverines’ defense has fallen to 66th in Finishing Drives, which is significantly worse than a Rutgers defense (29th) that Iowa didn’t have much trouble with. Iowa is 6-1 straight up against top-seven op ponents at Kinnick since 2008. I think it can keep things close once again.

UNDER 42.5

If it weren’t for two defensive touchdowns and a doinked field goal that went in, Iowa games would be 4-0 to the under this season. Both defenses enter this matchup in the top six nationally in coverage and tackle grading, according to PFF. Neither unit will make many mistakes or give up explosive plays. I expect Iowa to try to muddy this game up.

SAN JOSE STATE ML -120

I grabbed this line at SJSU -120 over Wyoming earlier in the week. I’d play it to -150 on the moneyline.

MICHIGAN -10.5

I’m honestly surprised this line isn’t larger than 10.5. Do the experts in Las Vegas have amnesia? Iowa and Michigan played each other less than a year ago, and the Wolverines won, 42-3. With that result in mind, I’m pretty confident the Wolverines will cover this spread three times over. Even with Kinnick magic on their side, the Hawkeyes are still going to get blown out.

OVER 42.5

I haven’t taken an Iowa over before this week. But at long last, there’s com pelling evidence that one of these Hawkeye overs will hit. In the Big Ten Championship Game, Michigan scored 42 points. If the Wolverines can rep licate that performance on Saturday, all the Hawkeyes have to do is make a field goal. But if Iowa stays in this game, there’s no way the over will hit.

I’m not buying what Maryland is selling. Michigan State will definitely cover, if not win outright, on Saturday.

Each week during the Iowa football season, Daily Iowan Pregame Editor Austin Hanson and Action Network College Football Editor Pete Ruden will place three hypothetical bets of $100. The score of the contest will be kept in the piggy banks to the right and left with a winner to be declared at the end of the season.

‘Where top-five teams go to die’

Iowa quarterback Spencer Petras paid for it the last time he took the same field as Michigan.

The Wolverines dealt blows in last season’s Big Ten Championship game that

severely bruised the nowsenior’s abdomen. Petras said he also left the contest with internal muscle bleeding in addition to the abdomen injury.

Ahead of this week’s IowaMichigan matchup, Petras said he isn’t thinking about the punishment he took during the Hawkeyes’ 42-3 loss to the Wolverines.

“I was banged up because I was an idiot and didn’t slide and got roughed up pretty good,” Petras said. “I just gotta know to be smart when I’m running the football. An extra couple yards, depending on the situation, isn’t worth the blows to the body.”

Petras went 9-of-22 for 137 yards before his injuries forced him off the field during the third quarter of the title game. Junior Alex Padilla completed 10 of his 15 throws for 38 yards in relief of Petras.

But the wind was taken out of the Iowa offense’s sails long before Petras left the game.

The Hawkeyes drove the ball 54 yards in their first possession to the Michigan 17-yard line. On first-and-10, Petras tossed the ball toward the right hash to running back Gavin Williams, who

proceeded to sling the football toward Lucas Oil Stadium’s south end zone. Williams’ intended receiver — fullback Monte Pottebaum — raced across the goal line to get underneath the overthrown pass.

Pottebaum stretched out to catch the ball, but ultimately ended up flat on his back in an end zone that had “IOWA” painted in gold lettering on top of black turf.

Soon after their failed trick play, the Hawkeyes brought out fifth-year senior kicker Caleb Shudak, for a 33-yard field goal attempt.

Initially, Shudak’s boot appeared to be trending toward the right upright. Then, the ball sliced. The kick missed without grazing the goal posts.

After Shudak’s miss, 11 of

the next 12 Hawkeye drives ended in a punt or turnover. The Wolverines scored on six of their final 12 possessions.

“I’m human, so I do ask myself that,” Pottebaum said of how a first-drive touchdown catch might’ve changed the game. “But that’s not going to help me any this week in this game. I just put that to the side.”

The last time one of head coach Kirk Ferentz’s teams surrendered more than 42 points in a game was on Jan. 1, 2016, when Iowa lost to Stanford, 45-16, in the Rose Bowl.

The 39-point loss is the second-largest Ferentz has suffered during his tenure at Iowa, behind the 49-3 loss to Michigan State, on Oct. 2, 1999 — Ferentz’s first season.

what happened last year, you know, losing by 39 points and giving up 42 points as a defense, that’s not how we play football,” strong safety Kaevon Merriweather said. “That’s not something that [defensive coordinator Phil Parker] preaches or harps on.

“I think coach Parker is doing a great job of pushing us in practice to make sure where we need to be every single play and every single down. So, I think this is, I wouldn’t say a revenge game, but we want to play way better than we did last year.”

Ferentz said he hasn’t been using the Hawkeyes’ loss in Indianapolis as fuel for this rematch. Since the final whistle was blown in Indiana, Ferentz has been trying to put the bout behind him.

“It obviously didn’t feel very good that day, that’s for sure,” Ferentz said at Tuesday’s press conference.

“Our challenge at that point back in December was to move forward. Like we do any game, you look at and study and learn from it and move forward.”

Following the 2021 league title game, both teams went on to play bowl games in Florida. Michigan lost to Georgia, 34-11, in the Orange Bowl in Miami on Dec. 31, failing to advance to the national championship game in the process. Iowa played in the Citrus Bowl, losing to Kentucky, 20-17, on Jan. 1.

Michigan, at 4-0 this season, was ranked fourth in the AP preseason poll and has remained in that position since. The 3-1 Hawkeyes have yet to be ranked this year. Before this season, Iowa hadn’t opened a season unranked since 2018.

The Wolverines’ high

ranking might, however, benefit the Hawkeyes this Saturday.

Iowa is 5-1 in its last six home games against top-five opponents. The unranked Hawkeyes beat the thenNo. 2 Wolverines, 14-13, at Kinnick Stadium in 2016.

“As they say, [it’s] where top-five teams go to die,” Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said at a Monday press conference. “... It’s a great environment that they have at Kinnick Stadium. I think it’s more the team that’s on the field. They produce one that’s good every single year.”

Michigan will come to Iowa City with a relatively inexperienced starting quarterback.

Sophomore J.J. McCarthy has played 15 games, starting three times.

McCarthy won the Wolverines’ quarterback competition during Week 2 of the season, when he completed 11 of his 12 pass attempts for 229 yards and three touchdowns in Michigan’s 56-10 beatdown of Hawaii.

In a postgame press conference, Harbaugh named McCarthy his Week 3 starter. After a follow-up question from a reporter, Harbaugh insinuated McCarthy would be his No. 1 option at QB for the foreseeable future.

“Yeah, by merit, he’s earned that,” Harbaugh told USA Today Sports. “By performance, by merit.”

Harbaugh’s quarterback contest was unconventional. Before the season began, he announced he’d start a different quarterback in each of Michigan’s first two games.

coach went with.”

McCarthy has thrown for 663 yards and five touchdowns and has yet to turn the ball over this season — leading to an 82.9 quarterback rating.

The Hawkeyes’ defense will likely provide McCarthy with the stiffest test he’s faced as a starter. Maryland

game. Iowa has yet to allow more than 10 points in a game.

Likewise, Michigan’s offense will be the best Iowa has seen this season. The Wolverines have averaged 489 yards and six touchdowns per game — good for 19th in the nation.

With McNamara as its starting quarterback in last season’s game against Iowa, Michigan gained 461 yards — 250 through the air and 211 on the ground. In limited action against the Hawkeyes, McCarthy went 1-of-3 for six yards and an interception. He also picked up 23 rushing yards.

Before his Week 1 start, McNamara called the QB battle “unusual.”

“It was kind of a thing that I wasn’t expecting by the end of camp,” McNamara said. “I thought I had my best game, put myself in a good position. That was just a decision that

was the only team he played with a defense ranked inside the top 100 nationally — the Terrapins are currently 98th in the country in total defense.

The Hawkeyes rank sixth in the country in total defense, surrendering 236.2 yards per

Despite McCarthy’s lackluster performance at Lucas Oil Stadium, Ferentz believes Michigan’s offense may be more explosive now than it was last season.

“You might argue they’re better,” Ferentz said. “I don’t know. [McCarthy and

McNamara are] both really good players. I don’t want to call it a dilemma. It’s been a discussion point, at least it sounds like, up in Ann Arbor and maybe points beyond that.

“From where I’m standing, it looks like it’s tough to go wrong either way, and maybe that’s the situation they’re facing.”

McNamara won’t be available for Saturday’s game, per The Detroit Free Press. He sustained a lowerbody injury during the lone drive he played against UConn on Sept. 17.

Iowa will also need to slow halfback Blake Corum. Michigan’s rushing offense is ranked 11th in the country, and Corum is the Wolverines’ featured runner. In four games, he’s scored nine touchdowns and gained 478 yards on 64 carries — a 7.5 yards per run average.

In last year’s Big Ten

Championship Game, Corum had 74 rushing yards, including a 67-yard touchdown run.

“He’s a great back,” Merriweather said. “I think he’s got a lot of balance. He can get in on his cuts and get downfield. He’s shifty. In the pass game, you need to watch him. If he gets in the flat and gets the ball in space, he can make something happen.”

Iowa ranks sixth in the FBS in rush defense, allowing just over 73 yards per game and 2.21 per carry.

Michigan is 35th in the country against the run this year. Iowa’s rushing offense is rated 115th in the nation after 129-yard and 162-yard rushing performances against Rutgers and Nevada, respectively. The Scarlet Knights had the secondbest run defense in the country before they lost,

27-10, to the Hawkeyes at last Saturday’s game.

Iowa has scored five total touchdowns this season — four of which have come on the ground. The Hawkeyes are currently ranked last in the 131-team FBS in total offense Their passing attack is 124th with 524 total yards and one touchdown.

The Wolverines are rated eighth nationally in total defense. Rutgers’ defense is ranked ninth in the FBS.

“[Michigan] is going to be the most talented team we’ve played,” Petras said. “But it’s good. It’s another challenge for this team. We’ve got talented guys, too. You know, it’ll be fun. I think the biggest thing is, it’s even more critical that we have great focus, great execution, and just fall back on our fundamentals every play. This team will make us pay if we don’t.”

Moeaki returns to IC as ANF honoree

Former Iowa tight end Tony Moeaki returned to Iowa City this week to join the America Needs Farmers Wall of Honor.

Moeaki, who played for the Hawkeyes from 2005-09, is the 10th inductee since the Wall of Honor was intro duced in 2012. He joins Dal las Clark, Chad Greenway, Marshal Yanda, and other former Hawkeye football players on the wall.

“These former Hawkeyes exemplify the tenacity, in tegrity, and work ethic of Iowa’s farmers, something that coach [Hayden] Fry certainly understood,” Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson said. “And we do ap preciate coach [Kirk] Ferentz carrying on the ANF legacy.”

The Iowa Farm Bureau

Federation officially part nered with Hawkeye football in 2011, creating an annu al America Needs Farmers Game Day.

Fry started the movement during Iowa’s farm crisis in the 1980s, when the ag riculture industry suffered through an economic crisis. Fry brought attention to the issue by placing a gold ANF sticker on Iowa’s helmets for the 1985 Rose Bowl game.

Long after Fry retired, the ANF movement stuck around. This year is ANF’s 37th anniversary.

“Tony was chosen by the ANF team because of his outstanding character and his perseverance and tenac ity that is shared by Iowa farmers,” Johnson said Tues day. “Like most Iowans to day, Tony didn’t grow up on a farm, but he is passionate

for agriculture.”

While Moeaki grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, his grandfather was a farmer in Tonga — a Polynesian coun try. His grandfather had live stock, grain, and fish, provid ing enough money for the Moeaki family to immigrate to the U.S.

Moeaki came to Iowa out of Wheaton Warrenville South High School in Whea ton, Illinois — about 25 miles west of Chicago. As a fivestar recruit, Moeaki could’ve played for almost any school he wanted. He chose Iowa because of its coaching staff and proximity to his home town.

“Just the moment I met coach Ferentz, I think it was my freshman, sophomore year [of high school], he al ways stuck out to me,” Moea ki said. “He was just one of my favorite coaches to talk to. And I knew the program that he ran and it was every thing I thought it was going to be. Then, coming out to Iowa a few times for visits, the people, fans are so nice.”

Moeaki’s five-year Iowa career was hampered by in juries. He medically redshirt ed in 2007 with a dislocated elbow and broken hand. He missed four games in 2008 with a broken left foot.

Overall, Moeaki recorded 76 receptions for 953 yards in his Iowa career.

“When you’re going through it at the time, I was just thinking, ‘I got to get back out there for my team mates, I got to contribute,” Moeaki said. “... I had a lot of great teammates. I just wanted to be out there and

that’s what brought me back every time.”

Following his Iowa ca reer, Moeaki was picked in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He signed a four-year contract with the Chiefs, but he was released in 2013 after missing all of the 2011 sea son and part of Kansas City’s 2013 campaign.

Moeaki bounced around to other teams, including the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Se ahawks, Atlanta Falcons, and Chicago Bears. His NFL ca reer ended in 2016 after he was cut by the Bears at the end of training camp.

Six years later, Moeaki got married, had a daugh ter, and moved back to the suburbs of Chicago with his family. This is Moeaki’s

first time coming back to Iowa City since his college days, he said. Relatives of both Moeaki and his wife will watch him be honored by the Iowa Farm Bureau during Saturday’s game at Kinnick Stadium.

“Great to have Tony be recognized with the ANF award,” Ferentz said on Tuesday. “It’s quite a wall there. The names on that wall are impressive, and Tony’s name certainly fits up there, as well. As you can see, starting a new family, young family, so it’s great to see the guys as they move on in life and start the next phase of their lives. Very happy for Tony.”

with Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell

Daily Iowan Assistant Sports Editor Chris Werner chatted with Campbell at a media availability session on Sept. 20.

The Daily Iowan: So, ev ery week we do like a fun questions segment for The Daily Iowan, are you down to do that?

Jack Campbell: Yes, sir.

DI: Awesome. So, I’ll start with a hypothetical NCAA football video game rating. I know Jay Higgins said you’d be like a 99.

Campbell: What’s the lowest rating?

DI: That’s a great ques tion.

Campbell: Give me the lowest rating. I’ll be the lowest rating.

DI: Why do you want the lowest rating?

Campbell: Because I want that chip on my shoul der. You can make Jay Hig gins a 99, though, alright?

DI: That’s fair. Do you re member the best and worst football play of your career, anywhere from youth until now?

Campbell: I’ll go my youth football career. The worst play was losing on like, I was in sixth grade and we were up by like five, and I think they threw a Hail

Mary and won, so that was the worst. Then the best was, I was in like seventh grade and someone punted the ball, and I wasn’t the re turner at all, but our return er didn’t pick it up. He was trying to make us get away from it so they could down it and I just picked it up and I ran it for a touchdown.

DI : Did you have, I know this is a while to remember, did you have a “welcome to Iowa” moment when you

got here and realized this is the Big Ten and this is Iowa football?

Campbell: I would say probably freshman year in camp standing and watch ing a nine-on-seven period and watching Tristan Wirfs, and Chauncey Golston, and A.J. Epenesa, and all those other gigantic dudes going against each other. I was like, “I don’t know if I’m gonna make it here.”

DI : And then, do you have any extra pride, you know, being an Iowa line backer? There’s a big NFL presence and a lot of histo ry there.

Campbell: I would say so. It’s just been a blessing. I’ve just been so fortunate to have this opportunity. Being from Iowa, it just means a little bit more to me, I feel like. But yeah, For me right now, it’s my senior year, I’m just try

ing to leave my jersey in a better place. And also leave the [linebackers] room in a better place. These young guys, some day they’ll all be better than me — no doubt about that. But just trying to get them to re alize that all those little things matter so much.

DI : Then two more, what does it feel like when the Kinnick crowd is rock ing and you hear the ref’s whistle and everybody kind

of knows it’s gonna be a false start?

Campbell: One of the best feelings ever. When you got those guys that can’t hear, you already know they’re on edge, and you’re a defensive guy, so you’re going on the ball, it’s one of the easiest things and most fun things to do because you can just attack and they have no idea what’s going on.

DI : Last one for you: I know a lot of people have a song they listen to when they’re happy and when they’re having a good time. Do you have one you listen to when you’re really sad? Is there a go-to song when you’re down in the dumps?

Campbell: Sad? Hon estly, no. I just turn on, I guess I just have a bunch of different playlists on my phone. I don’t have Spo tify Premium, so I have to listen to ads, but I got like a Christian contemporary playlist I always just turn on. Doesn’t really matter what mood I’m in, but I’ll flick that on. I’ll also just flip some country on.

10 - The Daily Iowan - PREGAME - Iowa City, Iowa - Friday, September 30, 2022

1. Ohio State

The Big Ten’s SEC program.

2. Michigan

The Wolverines didn’t cover the spread against the Terrapins, but their offense still put on a show.

3. Penn State

The Nittany Lions weren’t given enough credit in the preseason polls.

4. Minnesota

It would be a good thing for the Big Ten if the Golden Gophers made the conference title game.

5. Maryland

I was genuinely impressed with the Terrapins’ performance in Ann Arbor.

6. Wisconsin

Wisconsin won’t be the only Big Ten team that struggles against Ohio State this season.

7. Iowa

It’s amazing how far a great defense and a mediocre offense can take you.

8. Michigan State

When the Spartans lose, they fall hard.

9. Purdue

My preseason prediction of the Boilermakers winning the Big Ten West probably won’t come to fruition.

10. Rutgers

The Scarlet Knights haven’t adjusted to the Big Ten.

11. Indiana

Bloomington isn’t a football hotspot.

12. Illinois

The Fighting Illini are off to their best start since 2015.

13. Northwestern

Is it time for a regime change in Evanston?

14. Nebraska

The Cornhuskers didn’t move out of the cellar during their bye.

October and football go together like January and hockey.

I didn’t think Iowa-Michigan was worthy of Big Noon Kickoff. Upon further re view, matchups between high-powered offenses and dynamite defenses are fun, especially in Iowa City.

11 - The Daily Iowan - PREGAME - Iowa City, Iowa - Friday, September 30, 2022 My preseason forecast marked this Big Ten West affair as an important one for the divisional race. That remains the case. But now I think Minnesota will win the West, not Purdue.

Minneapolis, MN

Line: Minnesota -12.5

O/U: 52

WISCONSIN

The Badgers should regain their footing against the Fighting Illini. I think that will happen because of the talent discrepancies between the programs. Illinois upsetting Wisconsin in 2019 still lurks in the back of my mind for whatever reason.

RUTGERS

Saturday | 2:30 p.m. |

Rutgers (3-1, 0-1)

Ohio State (4-0, 1-0)

Ohio Stadium Columbus, OH

Line: Ohio State -40.5 O/U: 59.5

OHIO STATE

Rutgers’ defense struggled against Iowa’s vanilla offense. When the Scarlet Knights play the Buckeyes, their de fense will look like it stayed in New Jersey to munch on Taylor Hams. The game might be reminiscent of last week’s Vanderbilt-Alabama contest.

MARYLAND

If Michigan State’s defense makes the trip to College Park, the Spartans will win the game. But if not, the Terrapins will show they belong in the top half of the Big Ten. It’s likely the best Big Ten game in the after noon slot.

NORTHWESTERN

Saturday | 2:30 p.m. |

Northwestern (1-3, 1-0) Penn State (4-0, 1-0)

Beaver Stadium University Park, PA

Line: Penn State -26.5 O/U: 52

PENN STATE NEBRASKA

Somehow, the Wildcats are undefeated in Big Ten play, though that victory came against Nebraska. Now, they face a legitimate con ference opponent. I wonder how many Northwestern fans will make the trip to Pennsylvania.

If the Cornhuskers want to turn it around in 2022, Saturday is the day to do it. I don’t think the Hoo siers will be ready for a primetime contest on the road in front of over 85,000 fans, which is a good thing for Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph.

Adam Arp excited for Iowa-Michigan

The 16-year-old, who was diagnosed with spina bifida and other chronic conditions in utero, has been a lifelong Hawkeye fan.

Kid Captain Adam Arp has over 11 yards worth of ‘Beads for Bravery’ from the Uni versity of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

The 16-year-old from Wil liamsburg, Iowa, has received care at UIHC his entire life. The children’s hospital gives out beads for any medical procedure a child has — clinic visits, blood draws, air lifts, infusions, and other opera tions.

“Everything that you would go through has a spe cific bead, and then you have a string of beads with your name on it, and it just accu mulates,” Trina Haasis-Arp, Adam’s mother, said. “It puts all those drives into Iowa City and all those calendar crunches on when you’re going to do appointments, it gives it a tangible, you can look at it and go, ‘Oh wow.’”

When Haasis-Arp’s local hospital in Williamsburg found irregularities with her ultrasound, it referred her to UIHC.

“It’s so quick,” Haasis-Arp said. “Once they figured out something was wrong, they sent me straight to the uni versity. It was just so fast, and you’re trying to learn as much as you can. This was like, May, and he was born in Septem ber.”

Once she arrived at UIHC, Haasis-Arp underwent an

amniocentesis procedure — removing amniotic fluid from the uterus for testing. The amniocentesis found that Adam had spina bifida and hydrocephalus, along with only one kidney.

While Haasis-Arp was still pregnant, she and her hus

band Joel Arp went through genetic counseling to prepare for Adam’s conditions. They also went to the Center for Disabilities and Development to talk through what to ex pect.

When Adam was born on Sept. 14, 2006, he was laid on

his stomach because of his spina bifida. He had his first surgery at just nine hours old.

In that surgery, doctors closed Adam’s spinal defect. They also inserted a shunt for his hydrocephalus — a buildup of fluids in the brain. The doctors didn’t connect

the shunt at first, Haasis-Arp said, because they weren’t sure about the fluid in his back.

“Spina bifida is like, his spine is on the outside of his body,” Haasis-Arp said. “He had a big red bump … they had to do his surgery for his

back closures, and then skin grafts and make a cool little scar that he has for life.”

Adam had a second surgery at two weeks old to connect his shunt through a tube in his abdomen. The family spent 28 days at UIHC before he was released. Now, Adam

is on his third brain shunt at 16 years old — the most re cent one was placed in Feb ruary.

Throughout his life, Adam has also worked through club foot, hip and back problems, and complications associated with having one kidney. Haa sis-Arp said Adam has gone through 14 surgeries over the course of his life.

Because of his spina bifi da, Adam is also paralyzed from the knees down. He uses specialized Knee Ankle Foot Orthotics as well as arm crutches to walk. The family also has to monitor his blad der and make sure that, if he

gets a UTI, it doesn’t damage his kidney.

“A lot of things are symp toms that are ongoing, they can change frequently, or sometimes they’re dormant symptoms where we just know that we need to watch for it,” Haasis-Arp said.

Haasis-Arp had meant to nominate Adam to be a Kid Captain for years, she said, and she had to essentially write essays for each question when she nominated him.

“We talked about it, we had people tell us all his life that we should do it,” Haasis-Arp said. “I’m really bad at com puters, so I always missed the

deadline … when they chose Adam, it was really cool that it was actually happening.”

This season, Kid Captains are choosing which song will play during The Wave at the end of the first quarter. The Arp family chose Luther Vandross’ version of “One Shining Moment” — a song that’s also played for the vic tors of every NCAA men’s basketball tournament, Joel said.

The family chose the song because of its connection to the Williamsburg commu nity, Haasis-Arp said. “One Shining Moment” was also associated with the Tater

Tough movement.

Tater Tough was a cam paign that centered around Tate Schaefer, a boy from Williamsburg who was di agnosed with an inoperable and fatal childhood brain tumor called Diffuse Intrin sic Pontine Glioma at age 11. Schaefer died in March 2021.

“We have such a strong community support in Wil liamsburg,” Haasis-Arp said. “‘One Shining Moment’ is for our buddy Tater Tough, who lost his life to DIPG. It’s kind of what brings Williamsburg together as a family, and we all think about supporting each other, is the main thing.

It’s kind of emotional for us all.”

The Tater Tough move ment also impacted the Iowa men’s basketball team, who wore T-shirts dedicated to Schaefer in 2019.

Adam’s family is filled with Hawkeye fans, and it’s looking forward to Adam being the Kid Captain in one of the biggest Iowa football games of the year. Adam is especially looking forward to seeing his favorite player, punter Tory Taylor.

Adam’s family is also go ing to appear on Fox Sports ahead of the 11 a.m. game.

“The Kinnick Kids Day

[on Aug. 13] was the big re lease, and then we find out the Michigan game is the ANF game, the spirit game, and you’re like, ‘Oh, wow.’” Haasis-Arp said. “And now Fox is coming to town, so it’s crazy.”

Iowa will take on No. 4 Michigan at Kinnick Stadium in a rematch of the 2021 Big Ten Championship Game. The Wolverines dominated the Hawkeyes, 42-3, in their last meeting in December 2021.

“I hope it’s competitive, at least,” Joel said.
