Deaths Lyvone Hodum
Funeral services for Waynokia Lyvone Hodum are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery west of Corinth. Mrs. Hodum died on Tuesday, July 10, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. She was born May 26, 1935, to the late Leon and Modena Essary Rainey. She retired from the garment factory, worked as a nurses’ aide, and was a housewife. She was an avid sports fan, especially basketball, and never missed a Memphis Tigers game if she could help it. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Hodum; a grandson, Jessie Mitchell; and a brother, Elbert Rainey. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Earl Hodum; two daughters, Pam Weatherford and husband David of Selmer, and Sandra Inman and husband Ronnie of Corinth; six grandchildren, Coby Feazell and husband Paul, Megan Ashe, Cory, Tara, and Eric Kemp, and Taylor Weatherford; six greatgrandchildren, Shauna Kemp, Kalli and Alli Ashe, Kaden, Jacob, and Talen Kemp; and a host of friends. James Witmer
Funeral services for James Lee Witmer, 74, of Corinth, were held Wednesday at Magnolia Funeral Home. Mr. Witmer died Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Magnolia Regional Health Center. Born June 15, 1938, he was a retired construction worker and a Baptist. Survivors include an honorary stepson, John Sanders, and his children, Jessica Heller, Sherry Heller, Candie Heller and Asheley Sanders of Selingsgrove, Pa.; an honorary granddaughter, Monica Crossley Buckles, and her children, Lillian, Dylan and Owen of Selingsgrove, Pa.; special friends: Sharon Sanders and husband Reabon and their children, Troy Martin and Michelle Johnson and her daughter, Brooke Johnson Crabb of Corinth, Glen and Melissa and Zackary Vaughn of Corinth, Sam Sanders and wife Brenda and daughters Mindy and Angel of Selingsgrove, Pa.; and a host of other friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Kerstetter Witmer, and a special friend, Bessie Smetak. Bro. Ray Bennett and Charlie Browning will officiate the service. Visitation was Wednesday.

Slugburger Festival The 25th Annual Slugburger Festival begins tonight at the CARE Garden next to the Corinth Depot. Carnival rides will be available from 6 until 11 p.m. A $15 armband will give festival-goers access to unlimited rides. The rides will be located in the city parking lot across the railroad tracks from the CARE Garden. Youth art exhibit The Corinth Artist Guild Gallery, 507 Cruise Street, is showcasing work produced during its
annual youth art camp. The young artists, mostly ages 7 to 13, receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of any prints. An opening reception is set for tonight from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the 507 Cruise St. gallery. A portion of the Rennie Herd exhibit also continues. The Corinth Artist Guild Gallery’s summer hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closed on Sunday and Monday. Dogwood Plantation resident and artist Alice Prussia has 25 additional paintings added to her exhibit at Dogwood Plantation Assisted Living bring her total collection to 75 paintings. Visitors are welcomed to view the exhibit at Dogwood Plantation, 1101 Levee Rd., Corinth.
