Deaths John Haynes, III
Mary Louise Gurley Abercrombie
NEW ALBANY — John Wesley Haynes, III, 78, son of Frank G. Haynes, Jr. and Louise Gaines Haynes, passed away Monday, November 30, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. Mr. Haynes had a distinguished career with the U.S. Dept of agriculture spanning 36 years. From 1965 to 1996 he served as County Executive Director for the Alcorn County ASCS county office (Farm Service Agency). The main purpose of this office is to administer subsidy programs and disaster relief payments. Mr. Haynes was known for his compassion and overwhelming generosity. Those who worked with him and were affected by his career will remember him as being diligent in pursuit of the preservation of the families and their farms in his region. For retirement he took on the responsibilities of the family farms, enhancing the well known success and legacy begun by his father, Frank Haynes, Sr. His cattle operation had the reputation throughout the area of producing high-grade Black Angus beef cattle. The goal of his farming endeavor was more about finding ways to support his family and assist his many farmer friends than profits. Mr. Haynes was famous among people who knew him for valuing friendship above the accumulation of assets. Mr. Haynes defining characteristic was his insistence on those around him working hard and giving a supreme effort. He wanted his children to carry on his multiple farming operations. He graduated from Ingomar High School and Mississippi State University in 1959. He was a member of Ingomar United Methodist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. He is survived by his mother, Louise Gaines Haynes; three children, Teresa Haynes, Sharon (Robert) Brinkman and John W. Haynes IV; seven grandchildren: Korey Frosinotes, John Frosinotes, Emily Stanford, Sarah Brinkman, Bob Brinkman, Wes Haynes and Lily Haynes; two great grandchildren, Samuel Frosinotes and John David Parker; and the mother of his children, Linda Abernethy Droke. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Haynes, Sr. and brother, Frank Goodman Haynes, Jr. Pallbearers will be Trey Albright, Jay Norman, Marty Austin, Jim Rhodes, Les Archie, John Darnell, Donnie Sappington, Clint Conlee, Ben Treloar, Pat Matthews and David Rainey. Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Goudy, David Brown and Gene Cooksey. A visitation will be from 12 p.m. noon until service time on Thursday. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at United Funeral Service with The Rev. Kerry Powell, The Rev. Gene Bramlett and The Rev. Rickey Haynes officiating. Burial will be at Ingomar Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Ingomar Methodist Church, 1110 County Road 90, New Albany, MS 38652.
