Deaths Mildred Norwood Blythe

BOONEVILLE — Mildred Norwood Blythe, age 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, while surrounded by her family at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Booneville. One of 11 children, she was born to Arthur C. Norwood and Maude Johnson Norwood, Sept. 15, 1926 in Etta. She was a 1945 graduate of Macedonia High School and attended Holmes Junior College. She was a member of Corners- Blythe ville United Methodist Church. She married her childhood sweetheart, Estel Honnall Blythe, Aug. 6, 1949, and they made their home in Union County until 1987 when he suffered a debilitating stroke which was followed by years of declining health. Of necessity, they moved to Alcorn County to be near their daughters where they remained until his death in February of 2007. Blessed with a gentle spirit, strong faith and deep love for her family, she will be remembered by many for the care and devotion she lovingly gave her husband during his near 20 year illness. In addition, she was a loving mother and grandmother and her family was truly the delight of her life. Funeral services, celebrating her life, will be held at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of United Funeral Home in New Albany. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by her daughters Martha Terrell (Scott) and Barbara Keenum (Greg), all of Biggersville; two granddaughters, Jennifer Terrell of Olive Branch, and Blythe Keenum Lollar

Vardaman Brooks

Funeral services for Vardaman Owen “V.O.” Brooks, 83, of Corinth are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with burial at Mormon Cemetery in Booneville. Mr. Brooks died Sept. 25, 2013 at his residence. He was born Jan. 18, 1930. He was a retired welder and a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is survived by his sons, James Brooks (Jessica) of Republic, Mo., and Michael Brooks (Martha) of Corinth; his daughters, Elisah Brooks (Tommy) of Corinth, Sheila StacyTaylor (Christopher) of Brandon, Fla., and Ester Samadi (Abdul) of Nashville, Tenn.; his brother, Joil Brooks of Hornsby, Tenn.; his sisters, Fannie Mae Spencer of Ripley and Edna Mirl Rogers of Corinth; his grandchildren, Brandon Brooks (Melanie), Christopher Brooks,(Michelle), Miranda Brooks, Nichole Cash (Chris), Josh Spoon, Alea Feathers, Lilly Feathers, Ryan Blackwell, Clayton Blackwell, and Brad Blackwell; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in

Norwood and Wayne Norwood; her sisters, Mattie Mae Norwood Warren and Rex Norwood Phillips, as well as twin sisters who died in infancy. Visitation is today from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Becky Lindsey

Funeral services for Becky Settlemires Lindsey, 51, are set for 4 p.m. Friday at Theo Church of Christ with Ron Adams and Jerry Childs officiating. Burial will follow in the Oaks Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Lindsey died Sept. 25, 2013 at Magnolia Regional Health Center. She was born April 5, 1962 to the late Williad and Helen Settlemires. She worked at Wal-Mart for 12 years before becoming a housewife and was a member of Theo Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Rosie and Clinton Settlemires. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Lindsey; her sons, Brandon Lindsey and his wife Annie, and Tanner Lindsey and his friend Danielle; her brother, Michael Settlemires and his wife Kim; her sisters, Kathy Settlemires and her friend Wayne, and Jenny Fretard and her husband Chris; her grandchildren, Adilyn, Brayden and Ava Lindsey; and a host of other family and friends. Jimmy Morris

Jimmy Ray Morris, 71, of Sunrise Beach, Mo., passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at home following a valiant fight against a range of health issues. Jimmy was born May 14, 1942 in Iuka, the son of James Andrew Morris and Mary Melissa (Seaton) Morris, the tenth of 13 children. It was here Jimmy learned the value and benefits of hard work, lessons Morris he would carry with him throughout his life. Jimmy graduated from Farmington High School, Corinth in 1960. Jimmy was blessed in marriage on May 31, 1965 to Carolyn Ann Hensley Morris in Florence, Ala., in a union built on unconditional love, trust and respect. Jimmy was a City of Memphis fireman and retired after 25 years of service as a proud member of Memphis Fire Fighters Association Local 1784. Numerous commendations and lives saved were just part of the job to this humble public servant. Regardless of his position or shift, he always worked multiple side jobs to provide a better life for his family. Jimmy moved from Mississippi in 1963 and lived in Memphis, Tenn. until 1977, when he moved to Middleton, Tenn. to realize his dream of owning a small farm. In 1994, Jimmy and Carolyn moved to Collierville, Tenn. where they lived until relocating to the Lake of (Marley), Christy Henry Irvin (Joe), Tyler Henry (Jade), Jaime Kinkennon (David) and Jonathan Morgan (Natasha); and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Ray “Pud” Michael; her parents, Robert and Lessie Gilliam Johnson; her brothers, R.O. Johnson and Neil Johnson; and her sisters, Ophelia Climer, Noah Moss, Freda Ross, Graple Holmes and Leland Turner. Bro. Jeff Haney will officiate. Jimmy was a simple, genuine man who loved his family, worked tirelessly, thought of others before himself, and was blessed with a gentle wit and engaging sense of humor. Those lucky enough to know him will never forget his sly grin and the twinkle in his eye. In keeping with his lifelong focus on helping others, Jimmy donated his body to the University of Missouri for medical research. Consequently, there will be no farewell service planned. Jimmy Morris was a family man with a generous spirit and will be missed by all who knew him. John Wood TITUSVILLE, Fla. — John Wesley Wood, 86, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013. He was born in Hardin County, Tenn. on Jan. 12, 1927. He was the son of Henry Leslie “Buck” Wood and Mildred Riddell

Wood. M r . Wood served in the U S Army d u r ing the Korean C o n - Wood flict. He started his career with NASA in 1958 at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. and transferred to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in January, 1968. He worked on the Gemini, Mercury, Apollo, and Space Shuttle programs. He retired from NASA in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mae Helen Wood; his sister, Valeria Evelyn Wood Harrison; his daughter, Sharon Caldwell; and granddaughter, Cynthia Caldwell. Mr. Wood is survived by his daughters, Wanda Wood of England, Nancy Rowan (Roger) of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Jennifer Best (Ronnie) of Titusville, Fla.; his grandchildren, Dennis Caldwell (Linda), Rory Rowan, Rhianon Rowan, Kendra Best and Brooke Best; and one great-grand daughter.
