$1 million bond set in fatal shooting case BY BRANT SAPPINGTON bsappington@dailycorinthian.com
Bond has been set at $1 million for a Booneville man accused of shooting his fiancee to death. Deputies and police officers responding to a 911 call at 500 Water Tank Road in Booneville early last Friday morning found 23-year-old Andrea Nicole Fleming dead of a single gunshot wound to the chest. Her fiancee, James Erik Robinson,
26, who lived with her at the address was taken into custody and later charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, said Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar. Authorities were on the scene within four minutes of the 911 call, said the sheriff. The weapon, a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, was recovered at the scene. Tolar said the investigation is continuing and
they aren’t able to speculate on a possible motive at this time. Bond for Robinson was set Monday at $1 million on the murder charge and an additional $5,000 on the firearm charge. He was currently on parole after being released from Mississippi Department of Corrections custody in March. A memorial service for Fleming was held Monday at Kesler Funeral Home in Baldwyn.

More renovated living and retail space is on tap for downtown Corinth. The Board of Aldermen approved zoning variances on
Tuesday that clear the way for two large building renovations to move forward. The Wilson building at 714 Franklin Street will be renovated to include apartments with special accessibility ac-
commodations, and the Mitchell building at the corner of Wick Street and Fillmore Street will be revamped to offer five retail spaces downstairs and Please see DEVELOPMENT | 2
A quartet of individuals were transported to Magnolia Regional Health Center with non-life threatening injuries following a three-vehicle wreck. The accident happened around 8:50 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Tecumseh Way and Harper Road. According to witnesses, a silver Grand Caravan SXT was traveling north when it slowed down before braking suddenly at the caution light of the intersection on Harper Road. A red Chevrolet car with two individuals in the front and a small child in the
back seat rear ended the van which was occupied by an elderly couple. A white Malibu then ran into the rear of the red car. The male driver, female passenger and child in the red vehicle were all transported to MRHC via ambulance. A female passenger in the van was also transported to the hospital. Two ambulances with MRHC Emergency Medical Services, the Corinth Fire Department and Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the accident. Deputies Mackie Sexton and Shane Latch are in charge of the investigation.

BIGGERSVILLE — Five athletes are looking to strike gold at the Special Olympics Mississippi State Summer Games this weekend. Each of athletes punched their ticket to Biloxi and the state event by placing first or second in the Area 11 local games at Pontotoc in March. “Biloxi is a big deal,” said Biggersville High School Special Needs teacher Rhonda Jones. “There will be a ton of activities for them do before and after they compete.” The open ceremony is Friday night with events getting under way on Saturday morning. Kody Brown is a veteran of the state games. Brown, the defending state champ in the 25 meter run, owns seven medals from the games in his six years of competition. “I plan on breaking that ribbon again,” said the 20-yearold, who will be competing in Please see OLYMPICS | 2

If downtown Corinth residents can get high-speed Internet access, so should rural county residents in Theo and Jacinto. The message was loud and clear from Mississippi Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley this week when he made a stop at the Kiwanis Club of Corinth. “This year we are focused on trying to do some big things in Mississippi that I think is going to move our state forward,” he said. “First and foremost is ensuring every single home and business in this state has the option to connect to high-speed Internet service.” Presley said bringing the service to every rural, country road is necessary to help improve economic development, education and health care across the state. “We already know we are behind in a lot of areas,” said Presley. “We are having to play catch up.” The commissioner compared getting high-speed Internet service in the year 2015 to TVA
