Oscar changed the history of the lm and the Korean movie ‘Parasite’ repeats its history. The movie won the award for Oscar’s Best Picture and Best International Feature Film, making it the rst non-English speaking lm to win the Academy’s most prestigious award, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Though the cast was not recognized individually, they were awarded the SAG award for Best Performance by an Ensemble Cast in a lm.

Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s lm ‘Parasite’ has been at the center of the discussion at the beginning of the show. Many people were betting that the lm would checkmate the Oscar. Most of them believed that the ‘Parasite’ would get the Oscars in ‘Best International Feature Film’, but the movie beat Hollywood’s big-budget movies, got the ‘Best Picture’ award.

In the ‘Best International Feature Film’, ‘Parasite’ contested with other big foreign movies such as ‘Les Misérables’ (Franch), ‘Honeyland’ (North Macedonia), Corpus Christi (Poland), Pain and Glory (Spain).

And in the ‘Best Original Screenplay’, the movie contested with ‘Knives Out’, ‘Marriage Story’, ‘1917’, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’. So, you can understand how hard the Korean movie fought the battle.

It’s been a wild ride for Bong, who told in multiple interviews that he didn’t expect the level of fandom around the move ‘Parasite’. “I’m ready to he joked on the Oscar stage.

“Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing lms,” he said at the Golden Globes the award for best foreign-language lm.

The incident of the foreign-language lm winning the Best Picture in Oscar happened in 2003. The Spanish lm ‘Talk to Her’ directed by Ped got the Best Picture award that year. And this year, the history is repeated by Koren lm ‘Parasite’.
