Is the 49ers Tavern Haunted?

By Tracy Johnston Kittinger, Owner My family has owned the property at 5660 E. Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach, since 1926, where my grandfather, Lowell Palen, built a motel “The Palen Auto Inn”. In 1957 my father, Johnny Johnston, had the motel torn down and a strip mall built. In 1958 the 49ers Tavern was established to serve Long Beach State students and still does today.

A former employee, Gary, who worked at the 49ers claims after hours as he was closing back in the 80’s he heard and saw a stack of beer kegs begin to wobble for no reason. He believes the haunting was by an artist who painted a mural at the 49ers and was never paid. This artist was killed in a fatal accident on Pacific Coast Hwy in front of the Tavern.

Max another former employee, talked of strange noises he heard from the walls near the cooler and mensroom, again after hours.

Shaun, bartender/actor, recently said our Christmas lights turned on automatically as he entered the mensroom at closing. While using the urinal, he felt hands around his neck that made his eyes water. That is why he called at 3 a.m. and left a message “The 49ers Tavern is definitely haunted!”. Mike and Alexa, also bartenders, recently said they saw a fuzzy picture of a face on our security camera.

Being a non believer myself, I asked my BFF, Sonny, for his opinion. Sonny took photos and found many orbs flashing around the mensroom.

will be more open with the community following incidents like Tuesday’s shooting.

The LBPD will have to provide more explanation and communication to the community if it wants to better its image.

Moving forward, we hope the LBPD will continue to keep the public safe. Making sure that deadly force is only used when it is absolutely necessary will help ensure that Long Beach remains a safe place to live.

Former President John F. Kennedy failed to fix civil rights in 1960s Friday marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy.

The assassination was a tragic event that shook an entire nation and left a mark on countless Americans. This tragedy makes people look back upon Kennedy and his administration in a positive light, particularly in the area of civil rights.

While Kennedy has been remembered as a politician who championed the civil rights movement and fought for minority rights, many have forgotten that Kennedy had voted down previous civil rights bills in the past.

If Kennedy truly was the civil rights advocate he claimed to be when he ran for president, then ick he should have voted to pass the bill regardless of how his fellow party members felt.

This inconsistency could be seen again in his presidency, when he promised to act quickly and resolve the hostile race relations that were plaguing America.

Had Kennedy kept his word and acted sooner, the civil rights movement could have progressed much more quickly.

Whatever his reasons for this, people always speak of Kennedy in a positive light and remember him as being a great man of the civil rights movement.

While it is important to show some respect for Kennedy, one cannot let these emotions temper what actually transpired during Kennedy’s time When history becomes misunderstood, one cannot learn from it, and one is doomed to repeat it.

By analyzing the Kennedy administration more objectively, we can truly begin to understand how society reached where it currently is today.
