Perdido Key Fire Station and Community Center
Perdido Key, FL

Being below sea level, the existing station endured flooding due to hurricanes. In addition to a 3-bay fire station and a visitor’s information center, the County added a new community room for meetings, safety training, and organizing emergency response when required. A helipad on the station’s roof allows for airborne services when the coastal highway becomes inaccessible.

DAG assisted this Bay County community in the preparation of an architectural feasibility report to demonstrate their need for a new fire station/public safety center and to assist them in qualifying for funding through the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities grant program. The community received a $100,000 grant and a $2 million low interest loan through the program, which covered virtually the entire cost of the replacement facility.
The new facility combines facilities for both the city’s fire department and the County sheriff’s office, and serves as an Emergency Operations Center. The fire station portion consists of new engine bays for 3 trucks and 1 EMS vehicle, support facilities to house 3 shifts of firefighters, six bunks, storage, and a weight room. The Sheriff’s Office portion provides space for 12 deputies, a lieutenant and two sergeants, with administrative space, interview rooms, and a holding cell.

Okaloosa Island Public Safety Facility
Fort Walton Beach, FL

Okaloosa Island’s Public Safety Center was designed not only to provide a firehouse for the area but also to house other local government agencies who coordinate their efforts during natural disasters such as hurricanes. Fire station facilities include offices, a dormitory, and four bays for trucks and equipment. In addition to the fire district offices, the second floor contains offices for fire inspectors, emergency management personnel and equipment, and a sheriff substation. The 16,000 square foot facility faces the Gulf of Mexico and was designed to withstand the force of hurricane winds and high tides.
Watercolor Fire Station
Santa Rosa Beach, FL

Built in a southern vernacular style with wide porches, ample overhanging metal shed roofs, and a central tower, this fire station is both a state-of-the-art facility with a three-bay fire engine garage and a civic beacon. The station includes a hardened 5,200 SF firehouse and facilities for response to the emergency and beach rescue needs of this resort area. DAG worked closely with several constituencies: the developers had specific design objectives, while the fire district had distinct technical and budget requirements.
The station provides a much-needed service to the quickly-developing area that it serves. The fire service not only provides fire response but also responds to all emergency calls on land and performs beach rescue services as well. This station will allow the firemen and women to respond more quickly to the calls in this resort community.

Crystal Beach Fire Station
Destin, FL

The second of two facilities built simultaneously for the Destin Fire Control District, this 4,000 SF substation was designed to blend in with the “summer resort” style of its neighboring structures. Two fire bays, meeting room, kitchen, lockers, and bunkrooms are included. A 6,260 SF addition to the station has been recently completed. The bunk room was moved to the second level, and more room for fitness, beach safety equipment, vehicles and storage has been added. In addition, the kitchen was upgraded and the dining area expanded.

South Walton Fire District Fleet Maintenance, Logistics Building and Training Tower

This two-story building will be built on a site near the main station of this fire district, and will provide expanded facilities for servicing and maintaining the fire trucks and other emergency equipment. In addition to the four large service bays, the building will provide offices for the maintenance staff, a large training room, showers and laundry, storage for tools, parts and supplies, and workroom areas. A 4 story fire training tower is also planned for the same site.

Miramar Beach, FL

The new two-story fire station will replace the existing fire station and feature three maintenance-free engine bays, housing for 10 firefighters, and amenities like a workout room, commercial-worthy kitchen, and day room. DAG ensured continuous operation during the design and construction by creating a temporary shelter for fire engines and equipment storage during the second phase of the project.
