Game of Spoons - Easy Read Instructions

To play the game you will need:

A printer and A4 paper

Scissors

A die with 6 sides

To set up the game Print the game on A4 paper.

To make the board for the Game of Spoons board game, take the first 3 pages and arrange them in this way:

For the rest of the pages, cut along all the dotted lines to make the cards and tokens you will use in the game.

How to start the game

These are the player tokens.

Place them on the square on the board that says ‘Start’. There should be one for every person who is playing.

These are the ‘Spoons’ tokens. Give 5 to every person who is playing

x5 These are the ‘Happiness’ tokens. Give 5 to every person who is playing

How to play the game:

Each player starts their turn by rolling the die

They should then move their player token forward across as many squares as the number on the die.

They will land on a square.

There are different kinds of squares. The kind of square you land on will decide what you do next.

Some of the squares describe activities. You get to decide if your character should do the activity or not.

The numbers on these squares show how your decision will change the number of tokens that you have.

If you decide to do the activity, add the tokens that it says and take away the tokens that it says.

When you see this symbol on the card this means you don’t get to decide.

You must do the activity.

You must lose the tokens that it says and add the tokens that it says.

Another type of square on the board is the Random Event square.

If you land on one of these squares, pick up one of these cards that you cut up before.

Make sure you mixed these up before so it will be a surprise when you see it.

Add or take away Spoons or Happiness tokens if it says to do this. Follow the instructions if it says something else.

If you run out of Happiness tokens you must lose 1 Spoon token every turn until you have Happiness tokens again.

If you run out of spoons:

If you run out of Spoons tokens you need to miss 1 turn

You also lose 10 Happiness tokens

In the game this is called ‘Taking a nap’

When it is your turn again, roll a die to see how many Spoon Tokens you have got back from ‘Taking a nap’.

You can then take your turn normally again.

x7 The game ends when everyone has been around the board 7 times.

At the end of the game, count how many Happiness tokens everyone has.

At the end, the player with the most Happiness tokens wins!
