PROJECT SUMMARY

STATEMENTS ON SUSTAINABILITY

House Museum El Achiote Typical Manaba house of Quincha of about 63 years of age. Its building techniques respond to that of the American Pacific Coast: wood, reed and mud. It belonged to Adelaida and Aparicio, a family of farmers and ranchers. This house was the most important house of the area because it generated many jobs for the people who worked in the countryside. One of their grandchildren, who lived with them for some time, is willing to recover the house to rescue the memory of his grandparents. This is a house to contemplate, remember, be, live and even die. It is a space of introspection. The building has been in disuse for approximately 27 years and with the renovation the idea is to reunite the family and the community.

FURTHER RELEVANT KEY FIGURES The external areas are the most important ones. Trees and bushes bring life into the interior areas. There is great contact with the outdoors.

MATERIALS Current Architecture: wood, reed, mud mixed with reed and zinc sheets. New Architecture: reused wood, reed and zinc sheets.

Commemoration of life.

The aspiration of the project is to celebrate life and family affections of the past, to rescue the tangible and intangible memory of the people who lived in the house and to preserve its tradition and culture.

The renovation of the house will act as an element of cohesion. Relatives, neighbors and people of the community will gather in this space. The intervention in the house is an opportunity to establish social ties and to encourage everyone to know their history. In this way it is possible to revitalize an infrastructure that is absent in use but present physically and that is part of the daily landscape of the local people. It is a milestone for its presence, an old referent house that takes you back to the past and makes you aware of the passage of time recovering historical memory Positive actions that appeal to the logics of development This house is an example of traditional architecture. Its renovation marks a positive impact on the community while preserving the tradition and ancestral use of materiality. It is a house that requires craftsmanship, emphasizing that the work done by the workers is the most important. Local materials will be used and shaped by artisans of the area, thus, the economy and local resources will be highly stimulated. The use of existing resources translates into economic capital not becoming the only means for completion. Demolition will be avoided, so the territory is not contaminated, rather, the removed wood pieces and reeds are reused, giving a new life and raising awareness on obsolete matter, reorganizing and contributing to new ways of building.

Water and air: the use of natural resources of the territory as key In rainy season, the water coming down from the mountain will be channeled to cover the terrain and disseminate the water to encourage plant growth in the surrounding area.

Water coming from the covers will be captured and contaminated water will be treated. The sewage will become artificial ponds that will convert pollution into fertility, habitats, greenery, birds, insects and amphibians, through plant filters. We will return the nutrients we take to the mud.

Today, the underground water underground is collected by a well, for human consumption. The passive energy will stabilize the interior space: a double deck that refreshes due to the crossed wind will be built. An underground canadian well will be used. The new materials will create mass to stabilize the temperature.
